The common way racing online or "racing codex"?

MMMM!

Got my golden wristband yesterday, so I think, I’m somewhat ready for the online mayhem.

This game actually encourages you to drive through the countryside, since there are several bonuses or shortcuts. You don’t even get penalized for doing so in races, besides missing a checkpoint.

Offline, as someone who likes to drive clean, I try to stick to the road as much as possible, but I tend to cut corners over the grass or curbs in cities if the drivatars are annoying me or the 1st races too good for me to catch up (I drive on “highly skilled” and sometimes it’s very easy or outright hard).
The ghosts of my friends don’t stick to one driving style either, so I’m confused on how to drive online.

Since I really hate losing to wallriders and rammers (I’m looking at YOU, NFS World!) and don’t want to be accused as a noob or scrub, I don’t know if cutting over grass/curbs is considered a perfectly valid tactic in Horizon 2 or poor sportsmanship.

Of course I can race with friends and preset rules, but I want to try my luck also in public races and my question is:

What’s the common way to drive online? Street only and if you even dare to drive over grass/curbs, die to Freddy? Or is everything allowed and complains about “dirty” driving are invalid?

Would be very glad to hear opinions about this.

Thanks and have fun.

Going over curbs, grass and through bushes is perfectly normal in this game. Plowing down light posts and wiping out sidewalk cafes is just fine too, in fact it’s almost required. The dirty part are the idiots who just want to run you off of the road and try to bump you out of checkpoints. I report and block each and every one. The corner pile ups are just gonna happen though when a bunch of cars try to make the same turn at the same time. The higher you get in class the more mayhem because most can’t cleanly drive an S2 and S1 can get messy too.
