I can’t believe I’m posting this, because this was probably the last game I expected to exceed my expectations this far into a launch. Just to be clear, it’s not that I don’t have confidence in the competence of the developers, it’s just, I don’t expect a game to get this much better a year after it launched lol. The new wheel force feedback features (so far) , meet and exceed my expectations by a long shot. Everybody who’s spent as much time in simulators as I have will more than likely feel the same way. It’s perfect. There’s enough control over the dynamics to make it informative for people looking for a simulator feel, and if that’s not your thing, you can pretty much just turn that stuff off.
In other words, I hope everybody appreciates this, even if they don’t use a wheel. I’ve always thought this game had so much going for it, and I’m glad some of the improvements are being made that make the Motorsport series separate from the Horizon series. This is a huge step in the right direction.
A hot lap feature would really make this game competitive in the simulator market now. Right now there’s really no way to start a hot lap without lapping the entire circuit once (takes way too long on longer circuits), or , reversing down the track a bit before you start. All of this wastes time, and it would be ideal if you could just start the car farther back behind the start line, so we can approach the start line at full speed without having to do an entire lap, or reverse. I know people say you need to warm up your tires anyway, but in this game you can do that in like 2 turns.
I agree, the game changed a lot in the last year and it’s something to be grateful for. I play with pad because I have two wheels (DFGT and G25, I’m a hardcore pc simracer that cannot use on xbox but with the positive feedback of this update I’m determined to buy drive hub for playing Forza the way is meant to be played.
So I’m with you mate, thank you T10/Microsoft for supporting FM7 this far!
I am curious as well if they will remember the improvements. I remember before I refunded 7, that there were so many issues that had previously been fixed in 6, only to appear again in 7. I’m actually excited a bit to try out the new 4hr full demo whenever it drops. Maybe it’s changed enough to warrant a second chance from me. I know the sound issues won’t be fixed and that that issue is likely a lost cause, but if it was fun enough I could get back into it.
I seriously believe we will not be seeing another follow-on iteration of the game, namely FM8. What I believe we will see, is just a game called Forza Motorsports.
There was a push back several years go within the ranks that there would be a time when both technology and operating system technology would reach a point where hardware replacement was unnessesary. So much so, that there would be no need to continue to redo games every 2 years to match the hardware advancements. We now rely on online advancements. Hardware has become the portal, not the main operating machine.
When it comes to the game itself. Usually, a game is already well underway when it’s presessesor is JUST hitting the store shelves. Having interviewed developers for various gaming articles and reviews/previews etc. our old Xbox site writers were privy to seeing just how games were actually developed and made. There is a period where the team splits. With one continuing on finishing the current title, while the other team starts using ideas they had, into the next iteration. This has stopped, or seems to have.
These days we now have a totally different OS plus a powerful piece of hardware for a relatively low consumer price point. It too will more than likely not see another iteration, ie Xbox One XI ?
As mentioned, it will be externally developed and be used as purely a portal to access games, both past, present and future. Much like FM7 is being built currently, which is how they initially wanted it to be, but demand required 2 yearly iterations.
The restrictions placed on the developers to put out a new iteration every 2 years never allowed the teams to really finish the things they wanted to do to the game just being released.
They would be required to hold off advances until the next iteration, which often left games with gaps or gameplay holes in them. Leaving gamers wanting more improvements and features.
These days the teams seem to be simply improving on the things they wanted to install at the onset. Just listen to the various videos on how they are improving the things they initislly wanted in the game, but never had time to fix at the onset.
Some would say, “well, why didn’t they just do it properly in the first place”.
Valid question, but in all honesty, we, thats you and I, are the ones at fault here. . . Why?
Because of our constant pressure to have games come out faster and faster, with much larger content, better graphics, bigger gameplay experiences, greater dynamics such as weather, vehicle dynamics etc etc. However, we all seem to still want it all within that 2 year turnaround. Leaving very little time to advance the game more fully. So we need to take some responsibility around that.
However, we now have the technology to simply improve the game as it matures.month on month without the need to put out another iteration. Just a new name.
I doubt we’ll see a FM8, but instead we will see extensions of the franchise simply called. Forza Motorsports. I believe they tested that in FM6 with the two complete in-game extensions. Namely the complete in-game games NASCAR and the Porsche’ Extension. These offered two complete games within a game. Proving that they could not only add content, but improve the overal experience in the process.
Forza Horizon will fill the void for those looking for a more arcade style car racing game that allows us to customise our cars, race them, work with clubs, yet also have great visuals, dynamic effects and above all, loads of racing fun.
While FM will focus and refine itself with even more online competitions where major prizes are being offered. Just look at how the online racing is growing currently. mS is spending a fortune globally developing this side of FM.
This will allow the game to really mature and grow. Allowing it give back to the gamers like it has never done in the past. With one main team simply working on an existing platform, with a game that is being honed to perfection every month instead of splitting in half every year to divide their focus.
Instead of just bundling it up unfinished, then sending it out to the marketplace while another team starts trying to tie other ideas into something that is going to be released 2 years later. Content that should have been aimed at a game that has already gone to market.
I honestly believe we are in for some very interesting times . . . . It will be interesting to see just where it goes from here.
Remembering that by now, we would have already have some advance ‘insider’ mentions, or snippets of pre-release images and footage of the next iteration or the Next Gaming Console cycle. Magazines and online websites would have already have posted articles from the list of titles at 2018 E3 from within the MS’s gaming booths, be it hardware or gaming title.
Instead, we are being given even more cars, more finely tuned game footage, new UI designs and stylisation as well as better handling dynamics. Not to mention more finely tuned controller and steering wheel advancements. Our old site would have been invited to MS headquarters at Epping to preview early footage and prepare preview articles by now. But from other sites, I’ve heard that they have not been privy to such news. Just advancements on the current title.
Which is completely alien to the normal way gaming media is handled.
No, this is exactly what I do ^^ , it just wastes a lot of time. Other games have tire blankets, and a start position that’s in an appropriate zone. Meaning, there’s not time being wasted on something that could just a part of the game. Hotlapping is a huge part of motorsports. Especially now with the way lap times are being used to market and sell cars. I know it seems like I’m being ridiculous, but if you hotlap often, this is a huge inconvenience. I swear I’m not being unreasonable.
Been addicted to it for the past month, I played it a lot at launch then switched to FH3 for a while. I can’t believe it managed to pull me away from FH4, a game I greatly enjoy. But, it’s a combination of things…the recent regular updates for Forza 7 really helped, love the new look. Collision system is so much better now. Very much looking forward to the penalty system.
The main reason though is probably because I feel like I’m better at the game, I’m doing a lot better now than at launch, I often win during online races, ghosted and even not ghosted. I’m still very average overall, but point is when you see results in a game like this it feels gratifying. Been playing Motorsport titles for years though. The other thing I Really like with this game is the Soundtrack, it’s grown on me and I just love it. For the past several weeks, the first thing I do when I get home is Turn on Forza 7 - X-Enhanced !
I am grateful for all the wonderful changes applied to Forza 7. The loot boxes, menu appearance, Various bug fixes here and there and so on. The spot light cars have been fantastic lately, great job so far Turn 10. But at the end of the day there’s still the mixed up car sounds. I don’t want to be a kill joy but it’s been a problem since the release of the game and I’ve actually lost hope for a sound fix.
Like I said I truly am appreciative of everything Turn 10 has done to further improve this game. However deep down inside it’ll never feel complete with all the wrong engine samples that reside within the game. Engine sounds have always been an important and crucial aspect in the Forza series and is the main reason why I even got a 360 to begin with (it was for FM4). Anyways enough with that, it is what it is I love this game and that is my ONLY complaint.
Do you not feel a lot better about it when they give you a free GT car (BMW M8)? And when you jump in it for the first time and you hear that v8 screaming away and the twin turbos whistling and chattering and sighing with every adjustment of throttle, does it not make you smile inside?
Oh, you’re on the money metalcurve32. I just left them a little feedback on the engine sound thread. I hope someone from T10 is ‘secretly’ reading all the feedback we’ve left them and planning a mega sound update. This beautiful game desperately needs those finishing touches.
Yah I saw your post, left a like .couldn’t agree more with what you said, I feel the same way to. Happy with new updates but also sad with no news of sound updates.
The game has improved SO MUCH since release. There are so many things that I would list that have improved, but most of those are already mentioned in the thread.
One thing, though, is that the game could be freshened up a bit. Yes, the UI was changed in the previous update (And it looks a lot better now that it has changed), but I would welcome a couple more new tracks with open arms. Actually, more like a great big bear hug. Free or with a price tag, new tracks would be amazing. Especially a track that’s like the Needle on Forza Horizon 4’s Fortune Island expansion or a track that’s similar to Fujimi Kaido from previous Forza games. New racing modes would be awesome, too, like autocross or a point-to-point hill climb mode.
I appreciate the hard work that Turn 10 has done with Forza 7. There are only a few things I would like to see added or changed. BUT with the changes, most notably the FFB; Forza has become the most played racing sim in my library, just edging out R3E by the smallest margin. I cannot wait for Race Regulations to do away with all the tire barriers scattered around the tracks, and I hope the tires will be eliminated in Single player too. Got to say, I am, feeling a little spoiled with the continued support with FM7. I hope this trend continues when the next Forza game is released.
