Bug Info: While driving in the open world, since around last 2 months i’d say, the game has random fps drops and stutters when i hit or go over any obstacle, pole, breakable wall, anything. It’s pretty random and sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t. If i don’t crash (lol), then the issue won’t show up. The issue is more obvious if you use v-sync, it can probably be more noticeable too with an fps limiter like the one from the Nvidia drivers.
Also please note the problem always appears when the circular spinning icon appears on the bottom right of the corner, so seems it’s related to game updating the saves and progress.
Platform: I play on PC, so i can’t speak for other systems.
Edition: Game Pass.
Account: Personal account.
PC GPU: GTX 1660, latest drivers.
Peripheral: I use the controller called MSI GC20 V2, which works as Xbox controller.
Settings: All settings on High, i get fully locked 60 fps on 1080p.
Attempted fixes: Tried to reboot system, no luck. Tried Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling, but didn’t make a difference. V-sync on or off, the same, fps locks or no fps lock, the game still does this.
Content Update: It happened after a few updates, i think around 2 months.
I was able to fix it a couple of times. It’s an odd situation and the fixes sometimes work and sometimes don’t work
It happens when you smash in certain objects like cactus and orange cones and drift zone signs etc…
I highly suspect it has to do with V-Sync and “max FPS” options (in game settings) and in (nvidia control panel)
So anyways, here is the 2 fixes that worked for me on two different occasions:
First time i fixed it by:
Goint to windows settings
Click on System
Clock on Storage
Installed apps
Search for Forza horizon 5
Click the three little dots on the right and click advanced options
Click (Terminate and Repair and Reset options)
Then in the xbox app, repair the game files then restart the computer then launch the game without changing any settings and test it again by smashing into the cones in the test track area or any drift zone signs
Second fix that also worked for me:
Open Nvidia control panel
On the left choose the menu that says (Manage 3D settings)
Click the “Restore” option down on the right and save then close it off
Launch the game and enable V-sync and set the FPS to 60 and try again
