But people don’t need to get 3 stars. It’s not required to move forwards in the game. Therefore, there is no need to have the highest possible grade at a level anyone can complete in 5 minutes. That’s fine for the 1 star level but 3 stars should require some skill and practice.
PGG doesn’t force everyone to do every event though. There’s not even FOMO at work here. PGG provides a whole load of (admittedly generally bland) options to get to a 20 point target for the only new content added in the week. Even if you want the 40 points for the other car, there’s a fair amount of content you can skip.
Yes and no. Newly introduced cars typically appear on the seasonal playlist. Yes it’s true you don’t have to complete 100% of the playlist to unlock these cars, but you are forced to do most of the seasonal playlist, in many cases week in week out. The argument I’m presenting is why lock such cars and other rewards behind the seasonal playlist to being with. Instead offer bonus points for completing the seasonal playlist as a way to promote something but don’t try force players to do it as the only option. Instead allow players to accumulate points by playing any/every aspect of this game. Players will still log in weekly to unlock rewards, but players will be playing the game how they want to play it, while still being able to unlock any/all rewards just like anyone else.
In terms of FOMO, there is most definitely FOMO. The best most recent example is locking new songs behind specific events in the playlist which are only available for a given week. Many players missed out and now must wait however long (weeks/months) for the opportunity for these songs to appear again as rewards (which players may miss as rewards are scattered left right and center).
You aren’t forced to do most of the playlist though for the car though. There’s about 60 points per week and you need 20. It takes no time at all and I just ignore all the stuff I don’t want to do.
Agree with you about the fact you have to do the playlist weekly to avoid missing out. However, the specific complaint at the moment is having to get a 1,000,000 drift score for 2 points - you aren’t missing anything by not doing that.
Edit - and yes agree with you about the songs as well. That was not the best way to add them.
It depends on how you look at it. On the surface yes I agree with you that this is a simple case of just don’t do it. But I also think it’s silly of PGG to put up challenges like this which are either incredibly easy for some or incredibly difficult for others. The simple solution as mentioned is to tailor it in a way to allow everyone to complete it, and to offer better rewards (i.e. more points) for achieving better results. That way everyone can feel a sense of achievement (if need be) as well as have a challenge. It’s a win/win in my books for players and PGG because for PGG you may see players replaying the same content to achieve better results.
But you do need to get three stars to complete the accolades. And you need the accolades to progress forward in the game.
Also, if you’re a “completionist” type of player, you need to get three stars. Why? I don’t know. But…
Sure - should work. I want two trials - one the basic level we currently have and then one where the AI is above beginner level and it’s some sort of challenge. Maybe we could even have S2 events or S1 street events from time to time in the harder category. If they could make the harder category trial worth 20 points, that would be extra cool.
There’s a whole bunch of accolades I don’t have. I don’t feel it’s stopping me progressing in the game (indeed I’m fairly sure I haven’t three starred all the drift zones as I don’t find it enjoyable).
There’s a whole bunch of accolades I don’t have either. And other than opening up the HoF I’ve got a bunch of accolades I have no idea what to do with. And don’t get me started on KUDOS!
Never even liked drifting in any game except nsf u2 until I played nfs heat and FH5. I actually enjoy drifting in this game. It may by the high point of the game for me, I’m just not a pro drifter.
I haven’t done a lot in this series and I’m not missing anything by not doing that. This series has even made me appreciate the old eExtreme series just a little. Well, very little but. If they keep going downhill on the new series I might just have to look into The Crew.
I don’t understand 1 simple thing. Why do people try really hard to complete this event? If you have hot wheels even getting a gold playlist without it is possible…
Even if we don’t get gold then what? I spent so much time in FH4 to complete playlists, only for tons of playlist being left with 0% now… I realised my mistake now. May be same will happen with FH5 when FH6 comes…
To anyone struggling:
Take any Formula Drift car, download a tune made by Kenpai TDG, and drift.
Just go down the mountain as fast as you can with as much angle as possible. You earn points based on angle and speed. Try to keep it fast and clean but if you feel the car straighten, just re-initiate with the handbrake. Try to hold drifts for as long as reasonably possible.
It took me two tries. I used the #411 Toyota Corolla.
I stand by what I said earlier but I will say as someone who doesn’t drift that this might possibly be the best seasonal event I’ve ever done??? Why? Because for me it was challenging. It took me over a dozen attempts in various cars/tunes, many of which were just under 1 mill. Then I switched to Kenpai, channeled my inner DJS and started to get the hang of it and I must admit even I was impressed with some of my drifts . Anyway got it done. Very fun! ++ On the Kenpai TDR tip. That helped immensely. I used their tune on the 2007 Formula Drift #117 599 GTB Fiorano. I might actually start getting into this drift stuff more now…
So why did I like it:
- Personally I found it challenging
- There was a bit of an atmosphere with over half a dozen other players trying to complete it too and cheering each other on with horns.
- It was beautiful. The sun was setting and it started to rain. In fact it was gorgeous coming down the mountain at that point in time.
- I feel like I’ve improved drastically at drifting
- I feel like I accomplished something. Could care less about the 2 points
- Discovered a new tuner with the Kenpai tip
- I now legit think I’m DJS
Kenpai TDG has some fine drifting tune and videos as well. Haven’t tried the Ferrari yet. I wonder if I will feel any difference when switching back to my Xbox One S after having used the XSX only for this challenge yet. Managed to hit the target on second try, but not the 30 or so afterwards. I saw so many tips I took some time in trying several of the almost all resulting in 960 to 997k or Failed.
I hope I don’t describe this poorly but the only other tip I could give is drift as close to the edge of the roads as you can, that makes you rack up points quicker as well.
Imagine looking at the road on the map, that isn’t the shape you actually want to drive it in when attempting it as a drift zone, you want to be doing pretty much S shapes along most of it aside from the few long corners where you can just give it a bootful of power + full lock then hold it as long as possible with lots of little power on/power off’s.
Already done the challange with an own tune. But just for fun tried the tried kenpai tdgs Aventador drif tune and it wasn’t easy but fairly doable.
Edit: Put 2 of these puppies in the gift system.
I found it kind of hilarious when I looked at my own best on the drift zone (around 972,000) on the leaderboards and saw that it was in the top 15%. And looking at the top of the list, a non-zero amount of the people above me were clearly cheating.
I took a couple of casual whacks at it while waiting for a clanmate to build and tune some cars, but I wasn’t really expecting to accomplish anything other than getting some car mastery points (which I’m always in need of). Sure enough, that’s what I got. Moving on.
I’m sure given enough time I could do it but I also just don’t care enough to prove it. But man I don’t know what they were thinking setting a target that the vast majority either can’t hit or don’t care to.
I’d argue that points should always be based on time expended and difficulty.
Example: we now get a lot of event lab stuff in the play list that isn’t even a race, your only goal is to complete the event with no skill required whatsoever. These events should give points based on your time versus average player time needed to complete so longer event labs pay out more than shorter ones and better players can get more points.
Look at the point balance for seasonal championship versus the trial: 90% of the time my team wins the trial in 2 races for 10 points. A seasonal championship isn’t that much easier, always takes 3 races and pays out only 5 points. It’s not balanced in terms of difficulty and time expenditure.
Seasonal championships should let you choose your difficulty and pay out points based on that difficulty and overall time expended to complete the event.
I want Mike Brown to play the seasonal play list every week on a live stream to 40 points. I guarantee you things would start to change after a month or two.
To gold the season / series, you have to complete every event on each playlist. If you don’t, you don’t gold either one. That’s the problem for completionists.
