Allow me to explain. My receiver ( Denon X4700H ) has a mode called pure direct. In this mode it is supposed to just play the source audio in its purest form without any processing. When I play FH5 while this mode is active, I have no subwoofer action. No LFE. This isn’t the only game to have this problem. I suspect it has something to do with Dolby Atmos on the Xbox. Forza Motorsport is the only one that I’ve tested so far that sends a true LFE signal to my receiver.
What’s tripping me up is when I go through the audio setup in Xbox settings, the sub plays without problem. Every single surround mode. A problem only for those of us with Denon receivers I imagine, but it would be nice to have all the games working correctly with it active.
Edit: Both Direct and Pure Direct get no sub.
If you want to hear audio the way the game developers intended it, set your Xbox to 7.1 Uncompressed, then let your Receiver do the heavy lifting to convert it to DTS/ATMOS or even just straight 7.1, see which you prefer.
7.1 uncompressed doesn’t carry height signals and behaves no differently than any other surround mode with my receiver set to Direct or Pure Direct. I’ve tested them all. This will not work. I set it to Atmos. Passthrough enabled on both xbox and tv. The problem isn’t with my setup. The problem is with the games lacking true LFE signals. The problem is with Dolby Access or how the xbox handles Dolby Atmos. Forza Motorsport works as it’s supposed to in this regard ( blows my mind tho as it has nearly no atmos ). Nearly everything else does not. Even streaming movies on the xbox via Disney Plus doesn’t work when it does via my TV app. Sure, I can set my receiver to another mode that works, but I think there’s a problem here that needs looking into.

You’re talking about using the ‘virtual’ mode. No thanks.

Oh yeah. I forgot. PS5 doesn’t have this issue. I can run it through Direct and Pure Direct all day without subwoofer loss.
