Audio - Car cockpit audio isn't spatial/Dolby Atmos/DTS:X enough

I hear almost no cockpit sounds from my surround speakers or atmos speakers at all. They’re primarily stereo. Haven’t tested all cars, but tested enough. Haven’t tested my subwoofer, but I don’t think it’s getting any signal either. Also not fully tested, but I think the only time my center is used is when there is voiceover.

My setup = Denon X4700H feeding a healthy set of Klipsch Reference premiere 5.1.4. FH5 feeds all of the speakers and so does every other game in my library that are spatial audio. I know it isn’t my setup.

Edit for clarification: I’m playing primarily in cockpit cam so I want the audio to be as immersive as FH5. FH5 makes me feel like I’m in the car. FM does not. I have also tested all my speakers and the only time my center is used is when there is music or voices. While in cockpit I get no sound from the center or atmos speakers unless I go through a tunnel. In tunnels is the only time I hear my atmos speakers fire.

have you checked audio output settings in settings?
if your sending a stereo signal to tour ampz your amp can convert to 5.1 etc

ps, great amp, i miss mine :frowning:

I’ve not changed any of that. In fact, I’ve cycled through the available surround modes in xbox and they all sound stereo. No other game has this issue.

It’s not even hitting my sub. All car sound is coming through the front towers. For shame. I do hear my atmos speakers fire when I go through a tunnel or whatever, but that’s it. Only sound to use my center channel are vocals. The rear surrounds get almost nothing from car cockpit sounds either. I was under the impression that cockpit audio would be similar to FH5.

is the xbox going through your tv then to the avr? if so it could be a tv issue, tey looking st your audio settings on the tv

also tey checking to make sure your tv/xbox and avr arnt all on the same setting, tv/xbox needs to be on pcm ans then your amp can do the work, or you can have tou xbox or tv do the work and you amp just output the audio

I have no issues with any other games and I’m quite well versed in home theater setup. It’s 200% not an issue with my equipment or my setup. TV is a LG G3 and set to passthrough. Xbox is also set to passthrough. I’m running the Xbox to the TV first due to HDMI limitations of the receiver ( not true HDMI 2.1 ). With both set to passthrough, all the audio is processed by the X4700H. Again, I have 0 issues with any other game, show or movie using this setup.

I’m getting plenty of sound from my surrounds.

And with replays it’s entirely too much from surrounds + unneeded echo/reverb. Replays sound like all the cars are in a tunnel.

While in cockpit cam? I’m not getting nearly as much as I’d expect. FH5 is far more immersive. I’m also getting about 0 from my atmos speakers unless I go through a tunnel. Odd. I’m not hearing the excessive reverb either. Atmos vs non maybe?

I don’t use atmos I just have a 5.1 system, Onkyo receiver, towers, center, surrounds and 500w sub. Using the THX DTS Cinema setting.

And yes in cockpit view I can hear my surrounds fine.

Werd. It’s just not the Dolby Atmos I feel we were promised. My surrounds are nearly inactive. Definitely not as good as FH5.

They did something. I’m getting a whole lot less 2D in the cockpit now. Still not detecting a ton from my atmos speakers, but at least this is closer to what I’d expect.

I detect 2 types of ‘mastering’ here. There’s very thin and very ‘loudness war’ style mixes, then there’s some that are a lil more natural. Neither really sound as natural as they should. This should be addressed. Stop mixing and mastering these car mixes like they’re pop music mixes. Back off your limiters, back off your compression. Mix them as the human ear would hear them. Especially in first person views. You want ultimate realism, throw out what you think you know about audio engineering and embrace that natural. Especially when it comes to spatial audio. When I get in one of these cars ( especially ones that I own and/or have driven ), I should feel like there’s virtually no difference between this game’s audio and the actual audio in those IRL experiences. Enough is enough of this pretengineering nonsense.

The OP has valid complaints here. Can you please remaster all cockpit sounds in surround channels or at least re-record them in digital surround sound? We’re no longer in the SNES/Mega Drive era.

Prime examples of flat sounding cockpits:

  • R35 Skyline (both)
  • 911 GT3 road cars (both)
  • 911 GT2 road car, latest one
  • 458 Italia road car
  • 918 Spyder
  • Shelby GT500 (modern road going version)

And hundreds of other examples. Please finally address this issue as hundreds of cars are virtually undrivable in first person views especially due to lack of depth, punch, character, and dynamic range.

Once again. My surround 5.1 is very poor in this game. First person cam…

Play Forza and then go into any other game with good dynamic range like the COD games, Flight Simulator 2020, Ride 5, etc. and the difference is night and day. The other games sound so wholesome and vibrant.

Replay sounds are actually good but while driving the cars are muted and quiet, especially evident in cockpit view. They lack punch and depth as if there’s no surround sound in cockpit, just monotone sound with no dynamic range (revving the engine in a bathtub). Affects most cars in the game but not every single car.
