Just get rid of it. You’re ruining our experience by using any EDM / loudness war style loudness simulation techniques. The majority of these cockpit audio mixes sound terrible at higher volume. Not even remotely natural. I thought the goal with this spatial audio was to improve immersion. You’re not going to hit this goal by using loudness enhancement techniques that reduce dynamic range. What are you even using ducking for when there’s voices? I swear this entire game is mixed to fit into the music. It’s awful.
The reverb impulses in the cockpit are nearly pointless if you’re just going to compress the life out of all the mixes. This style mixing makes NO SENSE in this scenario. Spatial audio is pointless if you’re just going to compress the life out of it. Why even make this a dolby atmos game? The whole point of atmos is 3D IMMERSIVE AUDIO. There’s no immersion in compressed mixes. Especially not as compressed as these are. Just hang up your cans and go back to EDM, you’re not doing us any benefit here with that mixing style.
I bought a series X and upgraded my entire home theater rig to dolby atmos in anticipation for some truly immersive 3d audio from this game and the upcoming Motorsport. Hopefully Motorsport delivers cos this game sure isn’t. Your lead guy touted all this mess about how all the audio was updated and how reverb impulses in the cockpits were used to create an immersive 3d spatial audio space yet all I hear is more of the same trash we’ve had since Horizon 3. You hyper-process everything and squash the life out of every sound. Just like every other EDM prod I know ( I know a lot. Was a part of that scene for over a decade. Specifically the DnB and Dubstep sectors. ). This is how I know exactly what is going into these mixes. It’s clear as day that they follow a very similar formula. They sound practically the same as DnB and Dubstep mixes do on this home theater rig I have here. I have been fighting this fight since Horizon 4’s launch. Not a whole lot has changed since then. You’re still making the mid range a bit too important, and you’re still squashing things down for no good reason. Just stop with the squashing already. Enough is enough.
Pretty sure the ps5 is the one with 3d audio, not the xsx
The Series X does have 3d sound

PS5 does not support dolby atmos or DTS:X. It only has it’s lil 3D sound modes for TV speakers and headphones.
Ok, so something I just discovered is that the xbox passthrough option some how makes things sound worse. My receiver is set to pure direct. This means that there is NO post processing going on. What I’m hearing is what is sent to the receiver. When it comes to music and movies that are played directly through my TV, this sounds amazing. When I set the xbox to passthrough and play movies, games and music through it, it sounds like there’s an abundance of presence and the bass is lowered. If I turn xbox passthrough off, I hear the bass and depth return, but the upper frequencies are a lil muted. This is a problem.
I’m constantly complaining about how these cars sound in cockpit view right. Well, it turns out that passthrough makes them worse. More present and up front. Turning passthrough off gives them a more natural sound, but it’s not quite as detailed yet has a bit more depth. It’s like there’s 2 extremes going on here when this option is on or off. Idk what kinda post-processing xbox is doing, but it needs some work.
Something else I discovered is that while in Dolby Atmos mode this game’s Home cinema setting has a narrowed sound stage like that of the Soundbar, TV and Headphone settings. Soon as I do this lil workaround toggle, the soundstage widens and sounds quite good. I’m afraid that it brings with it the EQ curve of night time tho. It’s like night time with a wide sound stage and the sub bass of home cinema. Really odd.
Workaround is this >> Settings, Audio, Speaker Setup >> set night time >> save >> set home cinema >> save. After doing this the sound stage is widened and dolby atmos sounds ABOUT as I’d expect.
Oh. One more detail. THIS HAS TO BE DONE EVERY TIME YOU LOAD A DIFFERENT CAR. o_O
So now what happens is every time you change cars, the Atmos mix is broken and there is no workaround to knock it back into shape. I have to restart the game if I want the proper mix. And I mean I have to restart the game with each car change. I have a M4 GTS with anti lag. When I switch to it from any other car the exhaust pops are a bit up front. Hanging out pretty prominently in my center channel. Soon as I restart they get pushed to the rear speakers more. Sound about like they should. Man, this is getting tiresome.
