Have to power cycle my receiver to get it to sound right.
I think this may actually be a Xbox system wide bug since it affects all games that I play. Idk if it’s just a ‘my’ system bug yet tho. This affects every surround sound mode.
What’s happening is that games will start with lower dynamic range, less bass, and less stereo width. It’s almost like the Xbox is feeding a soundbar signal or something at all times no matter the surround mode you set. On my receiver at least this is fixed by power cycling the receiver. It’s VERY obvious in Forza Motorsport when in cockpit or driver cam. This seems to reset every time I change cars too so that’s really annoying. You can hear the audio depth 'n bass 'n everything return almost instantly after power cycling the receiver. IF this process doesn’t completely kill the sound that is. Been running into that too. Only fix for that is to restart the games. I tested this with every game I currently have installed and it doesn’t matter if passthrough is on.
My reciever is Denon X4700H and TV is LG G3 if you need that info. Xbox is connected directly to Denon and Xbox passthrough is on.
Edit: Just tested HDMI CEC. It is not the problem.
Edit 2: Changing cars in FH5 also resets this. It doesn’t seem to kill the audio completely when using my lil receiver power cycle workaround tho.
Edit 3: Just tested my PS5 and there’s no change when I power cycle the receiver. More points toward this being a Xbox problem.
Edit 4: Swapped ports on the receiver and still does it. Tried several. Definitely not the fault of my receiver.
