So why is it always night now?

Well, it’s not night for 70% of the game, it was night for the 70% you timed it. A full 24 hour cycle in FH5 is about an hour and a half - which means if it is night for about 20 minutes, it’s about 20-25%. Before it was night for about 10 minutes so this brings it closer to real life.

I don’t get it. First nights are too short so the devs increase them. Everybody’s happy. Then they’re too long so they go back to normal. Everybody’s sad. Now they’re back permanently. Everybody’s still sad. What the :zipper_mouth_face: do you want??

I would like to see certain aspects of the game retain night time settings, like street racing for sure because nobody “…goes down to Mexico for a few pulls,” in the daylight.

Would it be far cry to hope the next map gets massive enough that Event Hubs get instanced with their own specific weather configurations/patterns?

oh no, no no - please don’t take it as any form of attack at all - that’s not my way so sorry if it appeared harsh or whatever, not intended!

:v:

rolling things back, I simply like the longer nights - doesn’t help me with Eliminator or anything, I just like it, and I’m perfectly happy with others not liking it - didn’t like the short nights in the first Horizon, didn’t really notice in the next three, though

I have enough punishment when I attempt to play Eliminator, don’t worry!

To actually see where I’m driving would be nice.

Loving the nights. Mexico is beautiful in moonlight. The nights last for exact 15 minutes vs previous 5 minutes.

When to play Eliminator

When to quit Eliminator

Eliminators are definitely rather painful with the long nights, as much as I enjoy longer nights everywhere else.

For some reason, when I change cars in freeroam night time starts again. Worst, going in player house for tuning or painting won’t pass nighttime. Its there when I get back.

In fh4 I used to evade the darkness by spending time on auctions, upgrading. In fh5 doesn’t work.

The only way to stop the nightmare is exiting the game and hope for daytime in the next session.

Hmm, odd. I seem to recall a suggestion and votes over the whole thing and extended nights won hands down. Now there’s all this about it’s always night etc.

Question : Has anyone actually sat down and let the day roll through to see just how long day and night are now ? Because, before the extended night it was far in favor of Day, ridiculously so, hence the complaints and change. Something like 3 to 1 Daylight over Nighttime iirc. And yes I did sit through a few cycles. And after the extended night was added temporarily too and it was still slanted to Daylight over Nighttime. Something like 2 to 1 Daylight over Nighttime iirc. It was almost insulting that there were complaints about too much night at that time.

To the Daylight crew (not singling out Bravo in any of this :slightly_smiling_face:) :

I haven’t sat down to check the cycle lately, because it’s fine by me, feels about balanced, fair, equal. IF you have an issue with it then YOU do the work and check what the actual Daylight (headlights off) vs Nighttime (headlights on) minutes are and report back here. Honestly I’d be surprised if it isn’t still heavily weighted to Daylight.

EDIT : And having caught up reading after a BSOD interruption some of what I posted may be moot. My challenge to the Daylight crew stands, time the cycle, I’m curious but not that invested after doing it several times before. It could be an eye opener to you. It definitely would have been before.

I’m not really surprised it’s badly implemented in that way and others (headlights being useless, etc.) but, and not minimizing the grief it’s causing, that is another issue separate from the length of Daylight vs Nighttime. At least the way I see it. Your (generic no you specifically BigJim51  ) complaints might be better, more productively, less contentiously, directed in that area (as some have).

The 24 hour cycle used to be about 90 mins with night being about 10 minutes. So, the ratio was more 9 to 1, hence the complaints. If the cycle is still about 90 mins and night time is about 20 mins, that’s still a ratio of about 4.5 to 1.

And if people don’t have the patience to put up with 20 minutes of night, I doubt anyone is going to sit there and time a 24 hour cycle!

Yeah, I’ve already moved this into the: “It is what it is” category, but think “Daylight Crew” is more good t-shirt material :joy:

We could make a T-shirt for the extended night enjoyers with “Midnight club”. Oh wait, can’t use that.

It would be better if fh5 had more realistic time. The time schedule now it everywhere if you know what I mean!

Punish people with bad eyesight and other dissabilities. Got ya, yeah we definitly should do that so people who want to freeroam in the dark can do that without the inconvenience of spending 30 seconds in event labs to do that 24/7

If painting is an issue for you go to the Horizon outposts. It’s a bit drastic going back to a previous game just because of this when there’s obviously a place that’s in constant light for painting.
I know it’s not perfect light but what I do is test the colours I want to use when it’s light outside (when doing vinyls) and they save to previous used colours then I know the colours I’m using, then crack on with the design

You’re right. It should be high noon cloudless 24/7. And no glare. No distractions. High vis colors only for all cars. What am I missing ?

Ah ! Right ! Reflexes ! Mine are slowing too. Can’t twitch the buttons like I used to. Better put a slow mode on the game while we’re at it. Nobody needs to drive faster than 5mph. Did I say 5mph ? Too fast ?

Few suggestions…

  1. Allow players to bounce between online servers to find the time of day that suits them.
  2. Allow players to configure time of day in Horizon Solo

Yeah, the choice of selecting Day/Night has been suggested. I doubt it’ll ever happen as sensible and useful as it would be.
