So im new to this game...is this common?

When I say I’m new to this…I actually mean racing game in general…The last racing game I played was the original Gran Turismo. Got this game 2 days ago and was really enjoying it…until I went online.
The amount or rammers/corner cutters is unbelievable…(but that has been covered in many a thread so i wont bore you with my rant on the subject)
What I saw yesterday though really blew my mind. I was racing in a lobby with a few friends. We had a few good races (couple of rammers but they were very predictable and easy to avoid) but then a group of 4 arrived…obviously a clan given how similar their names were. One guy in a Viper (S class) and the other 3 in SUV’s. the 3 in SUV’s spent every race just ramming people off track constantly so that their friend could win easily every time. Is this common on the game becasue if it is I really dont think I will bother with the online part of the game anymore

Sadly, like with many racing titles this is the case. If you see it then report and block the person/s by going to their profile and leave the lobby. You will never see them again. Whenever you see people like this just follow that rule.

Also maybe try another class. C class has less rampaging SUV’s but the corner cutting will be the same until the next generation of Forza sadly.

Yup this is it, when you block someone, apparently the game never puts you in a game with them again … How true this is, is yet to be determined as I was matched with someone I blocked (but this may have been due to how sparse the lobbies were in that typical hopper)

Please dont get peoples hopes up when we all know that it wont change …

I think they can only get paired up with you again is if they are in a party with someone you have not blocked. I noticed this yesterday when a blocked person entered the lobby I was in and I looked through his friends list and noted one guy in the lobby was in fact his friend. I proceeded to block the friend.

When a guy’s rating says it “needs work” you know a bunch of people have been angered enough to actually file.

Overall blocking the profile works great.

Yes, the lower classes are a good bet. Most of the I WANNA GO FAST kiddies stick to higher, more over-powered cars. Also word to the wise, in B and C class there are less leaderboard cars and the competition is more interesting seeing a full field of different unique vehicles. Even the leaderboard cars in those classes aren’t that special. I finished at Spa 1/2 a lap ahead of 2nd place the other day. I was in my Corvette C3 and he was in his Honda Civic hatchback. Goes to show…

Yeah had the SUV guys once but I was able to trick him by attempting to pass him on his right then quickly going left and gunning it. He tried to ram me on the right and couldentsteer to the left fast enough and got stuck on the glue grass.

I would also try the No Collision A Class Lobby. It leaves all of those frustrations behind. You won’t normally find corner cutters, but that’s all to chance. I really enjoy the no collisions because you can actually go around the track and not have to worry about wrecker, rammers, blockers, zombies or anything for that matter. I find it the most enjoyable racing online.

i had all these issues but a mod on this forum put something on to completly quit out of the game as in in circle xbox button to dashboard then start then quit also do a power cycle on console once a week to clear the memory cache this solved 98% of my issues still get week connection sometimes tho but thats a different issue hope this helps oops my post ended up in a wrong thread how odd

Yeah have seen and tried the no collisions a class…
2 things though…

  1. Its only A class
  2. Prefer overtaking people rather than just driving through them

sounds like a crash team. In the future see if you can record them in the act and then report them. I don’t recall the forza email but someone should be able to post this here - or search this forum for it. Turn 10 will ban crash teams to keep them from destroying the fun for all.

Rammers/Crashers/Wreckers are a fairly new occurrence in the Forza games (in terms of how common it now is). and that’s probably due to the fact that FM5 was a launch title, and it’s kick, report and block systems don’t work properly quite a lot of the time.

To avoid these kinds of people, just keep cycling through lobbies until you find one you like. Then kick any wrecker you don’t like, report him for crashing in FM5, and block him so you’ll never race with him again. It takes a while, but when you get in a lobby with no wreckers, it’s actually the best Forza yet in terms of physics and graphics.

If you really want to avoid wreckers, then just stick to no collisions - but that’s not as fun or as satisfying as thwarting a wrecker’s attempt at you. I just turn in late, and he flies past me at mach 1, into the wall in most cases. It’s a hilariously good feeling.

Hmmm? Fairly new??? Rammers/Crashers/Wreckers have been a problem since I started playing back in FM2. In FM4, Turn 10 even set up a reporting system that - after a short time - did a pretty good job of getting rid of the Crash Teams in particular (such as 3 players in SUVs working together to crash everyone), but also got rid of many, many individual wreckers.

With FM5, MS / XBL are trying to make the “Reputation System” work, which is why we are encouraged to use the reporting system.

I should probably amend that statement I made. “Rammers/Crashers/Wreckers are much more common than in previous Forza games.” Amended.

I’ve played Forza since FM2 as well, and I didn’t deal with all too many wreckers. Maybe I just was the luckiest guy in the Forza world. I only ever had to deal with wreckers, on average, once per month (if that), and beyond that, the only thing I had to deal with was the amount of times the game would freeze on me. Again, I probably just got extremely, extremely lucky. Forza 3 was the dirtiest (in terms of wrecking) behind Forza 5. About half a dozen wrecks per month, and that was on a bad month. Forza 4 was completely clean, for me. I just raced in the user-created hardcore lobbies with no assists, no driving line, and forced cockpit interior view. Any guy who entertained the notion of wrecking; got kicked from them. I do have an unusual history with luck, so it is possible that’s what happened.

I meant to say that it’s unusually common, and that to me is a new occurrence. Sorry about my mixed-up words. I tend to do that from time to time. ^_^;

The FM5, MS / XBL “Reputation System” is a double edged sword in terms of its effectiveness. It can completely block the wreckers, but it can hurt the people who are extremely skilled. I’ve got a friend, as an example, who’s regularly under top 100 in D, C, B and A Classes, and his rep is trashed for being too quick. He doesn’t wreck anyone, he’s just being penalized for being quick enough to DNF the field on certain racetracks.

Certainly, different people end up with different experiences.

In FM2 - where there were no “Hoppers” - it was not at all uncommon to see posts here commenting / complaining about all the crashers. The common response was “Find friends to race with - it’s really tough to find good races in random lobbies.” Of course, it was easier to get rid of the “bad guys” (the host simply booted 'em).

FM3 introduced the Hoppers. There were lots and lots of complaints on here about “crashers.” Folks would post how they’ve tried 100 times and never got a clean race, and not a single one of their friends ever got a clean race. Curiously, I spent a lot of time in the D- and C-Class Hoppers, and only occasionally came across a crasher. I think it had a lot to do with the attitude brought along - that is, if you scream bloody murder at the first contact, you’ll rarely have a “clean” race.

FM4 had both Hoppers and User-Created races. Crashers were (obviously) less of a problem in the User races, as they could easily be booted. The Hoppers (likely) had fewer “friendly” racers, since they tend to spend their time in User races. This is also when the “Crash Teams” became such a problem, necessitating the T10 CrashTeam response.

FM5 — well, while there does seem to be a lot of crashers out there (possibly / partly due to so many new-to-Forza players), many folks around here comment on how much better things are if you take the time to block the baddies. How well that plays out remains to be seen.

As to you friend getting his rep trashed for “being too quick”? I think it could be legitimately argued that it has nothing to do with him being “too quick.” Anybody regularly “DNFing the field” is not going to make many friends. Slowing down at the finish so you don’t DNF everyone else goes a long way toward generating good will. Using a slower car to make it a competitive race helps. Using a Mic to chat it up with the other players helps.

Personally, I’d never give someone “bad rep” for being too fast… being an arrogant jerk, belittling newbies, cussing out players for not “getting out of the way” … yeah, that could get me to give “bad rep.” NOTE: I’m NOT saying your friend does those things… I’m just saying there are ways to avoid being considered a jerk for being “too good” at the game.

In addition, I think it’s worth pointing out that this is Not, in any way, shape or form, unique to Forza. I doubt there is ANY console game that is not frequented by the “crashers” in one form or another. Personally, I’ve played only Forza, Texas Hold-em Poker and GTA-V online.

In Poker, pretty much immediately on entry to the game I’ll get a PM from one or more players inviting me into a party. When I ask why a party, the response is “so we can tell each other what cards we have.” Nobody being shy about it - let’s cheat!

In GTA-V, well, I kinda expected it to be filled with “griefers,” simply based on the content of the game… and my expectations were met with abundance.

Anyway, sadly, running into the “bad guys” is just something that happens when you associate with other human beings.

Again, it must have been my luck in FM2, 3, and 4.

I think the reason it’s so prominent in FM5 is due to the amount of new-to-Forza players. I full-heartedly agree with you. A lot of new-to-Forza players seem to be trolls, and or people who don’t know how to race. They wreck because they don’t know how to race. Simple and effective in their eyes. It drives me nuts, and that’s why I’m partially anxiously waiting FM6, because a lot of these trolls won’t find the interest to go out and spend another sixty dollars on it.

My friend is incredibly passionate - and competitive, about racing. I don’t think talking him into sandbagging, or waiting at the finish line, would do any good - plus, I’m not the kind of guy who would ask or order him to slow down - I’m not Ferrari ordering around their F1 drivers to slow down. ;D

He does chat with people online, from time to time, and he doesn’t cuss, crash, taint, or slander other people, and he is a very likeable person. He comes to Forza to race a clean race, and to tune. He genuinely loves racing, and he finds it a lot of fun at the end of the day, and he doesn’t find the fact that his rep is being tarnished due to his skills and abilities, to be very fair. Also, these people who report him, report him for simply being too quick. If he’s faster than 90% of the race, even if he waited at the finish line, then people will still report him. It’s a sort of damned if you do, and damned if you don’t situation at the end of the day.

I know it’s not limited to Forza, I’m just saying that it’s more prominent in Forza now, than it has ever been before due to the new “Reputation System” being fundamentally flawed.

Part of the issue is that anything discussed here is anecdotal.

“… report him for simply being too quick … even if he waited at the finish line, then people will still report him.”

This is, of course, just guess and assumption, and there is no way to prove either case.

I wasn’t talking about “sandbagging,” I was talking about participating in a community of gamers.

Which is more fun to you:

A) Running out front the entire race, finishing 90+ seconds ahead of 2nd place?
or
B) Having a spirited, clean, back-and-forth battle with a couple other players?

For me, it’s “B” all the way. Why would I bother with multiplayer - and all it’s assorted annoyances - if all I was doing was hot-lapping ahead of everyone else? I wouldn’t.

So, choosing a slower car to make it an interesting - and fun! - race is not how I would define “sandbagging.”

And, over the years I’ve had plenty of occasions to be 20- 30-seconds in the lead at the end of the race. I stop at the line, and wait until 2nd is close so fewer (if any) players get DNF. Countless times it’s resulted in “hey, thanks dude!” comments from other players. Pretty much the opposite of “they’d still report me because I’m too good.”

Again, though, anecdotal – not “proof.”

As I mentioned, when the FM3 Hoppers were new, I had no trouble finding good, clean, fun races. Other people around here claimed HUNDREDS of attempts, NEVER to find a clean race.

Anecdotal.

However, there are ways to - well, let’s say “improve” ones chances at having fun, and avoid getting “bad rep” for playing clean and fair.

Your point has been made. I concede.

Best way to enjoy multiplayer is to make friends and set up your own lobby. Otherwise, you always risk running into wreckers. I mostly race in the “ABC’S” (A, B, C, and S class cars) lobby, and the racers there seem more likely to behave, or maybe I’ve just been fortunate so far. It’s normally great racing, with people who seem to know what they’re doing as they need to pay attention to let faster cars by, and be smart when they overtake the slower cars in the lower classes.

Good luck finding better lobbies, and I hope you don’t give up on online racing. It can be a blast.

Like said, Block and Report. Easy way to do it is go to where your friends list, activity and that stuff is you will see Recent Players. That has a a list of all the people you’ve played with recently. Just click on their profile and block and report. Recording the crash team and sending that to T10 is even better if you can.

BTW, the ABC’S lobby has a lot less of this going on.

Yes it happens but not “that” often. It’s still a very enjoyable game online. My particular favorite is A class with no collision. I always try to beat my own time on each lap and change my cars to keep things fresh and fun. And sometimes you meet some nice people as well.
