SIM Steering on the Controller

Hi guys,

Just looking for some thoughts here and wonder if T10 are planning to improve the sim steering mechanics on the pad:

  • The cars seem to stop turning unexpectedly during low speed corners and vibration goes completely dead
  • When you brake late to the apex and release brakes, the car will slide almost uncontrollably as if understeering and oversteering at the same time and just slides off the track, rather than allow you to steer more
  • When you slide and fishtail, it seems the car has little weight and momentum has no role
  • Clearly you’re at the right speed but if you want to brake to transfer more weight to the front or steer harder to hit the apex, the game doesn’t let you and you slide instead

None of these effects are present in Forza 5 SIM steering or when you use Normal steering in F6. For the reason above, I use normal steering almost always in 6, because car behavior is rather odd on Sim, due to the reasons mentioned above.

I would hope T10 tweaks the physics further to make SIM steering more realistic and not just unusually difficult or slidey/understeery/oversteery. The cars are sometimes all over the place, and I reckon people would not be buying them IRL if they slide around like that. There was a lot of depth and dynamism in the way sim steering worked in F4 and 5. In 6, it seems it’s following a more linear on/off approach when you lose grip and regain traction.

Id say you just need more time with it. I’ve been using sim steering on the pad since day one. It offers me more control, at the cost of being overly sensitive. You have to use small steering inputs, this takes a long time to get used to, but the benefit is being able to slowly straighten the wheel while getting back on the throttle during corner exit. While it may not be perfect it does work pretty good if you give it time, if you’re used to normal steering than even more so it will feel odd.

This also happens with normal steering
