I have been a Forza player for many years. Have over 1000 hrs on FM4, my favourite of the series, and always play every forza game with all assists off. However the TCS in this game might as well be named “drift mode” because with it off it’s impossible to drive quickly. You cannot, no matter how smooth, drive any car in this game without TCS without drifting around every single corner. There is no finesse involved - it’s brutal - TCS on means you can drive quickly, TCS off means you want to drift. There is no compromise.
The point that made me almost snap my disc in half was doing the endurance showcase on the Nurburgring. The first 3 cars were literally unbeatable lapping at 9:02 (!) whereas the best I could manage on a perfect lap was 9:06. The Ferrari 458 GT2 car was literally undriveable without TCS. I have no trouble driving any cars in FM4 without TCS, let alone a little GT2 car. Even in 4th gear going around a sweeping bend the back end would slip out as if the car had no downforce at all… is the big spoiler on the back simply there for decoration? Then the rewind feature decides not to work. Instead of actually rewinding I get a blue loading screen and then it drops me back at some random point around 5 seconds before. Not so bad, right? Except that it drops with the camera locked at odd angles, like looking at the side of the car - and once even looking the complete wrong way. When resuming the game the camera starts in said position and makes it almost impossible to carry on without crashing. I have to pray to god and hope he lets the rewind come in a decent camera angle.
Not to mention the fact that you cannot use modified or upgraded cars in career - honestly who in T10 thought that would be a good idea? Then there’s the idiotic “mods” system which leaves a bad impure taste in my mouth. The money grabbing is more obvious and shameless that ever before with Tokens and VIP membership…
Forza is a long way dead from what it used to be, and I sincerely regret purchasing an Xbox one just to play it. Thanks for your time.
The higher classes gives a greater challenge. however I have adjusted my heavy finger and now are abit more careful with the throttle and offcourse spend some more time tuning it.
and guess what? it doesn’t drift if u drive it properly with TCS off
I have managed to complete 54% of the career. and I have tuned and ore upgraded every car I have drove in career(not showcases) by now.
so I don’t understand what u mean when u say that u can’t modify ore tune cars in career… showcases yes! but not the career…
sounds to me that you are giving up before u have began…
Muck around with the Deadzone settings as well in the options menu…
I follow Stella Stigs controller settings and has made the game so much more enjoyable to play
But of course, even being driving with some finesse in high powered cars will make the rears blaze in a haze of tyre smoke
Can you link me to the dead zone settings ?
I have gotten used to everything as it is,however whilst on league lobbies last night I was in conversion with a fella about these settings and haven’t been able to find anything pertaining to the methodology. Thank you.
Go to controller settings and then advanced settings. There’s nothing special about Stella Stig’s settings. Just set everything to 0/100 instead of 5/90 or whatever it is by default so there are no deadzones.
One thing to consider is.. If you are running forza and back out to the main screen, say Xbox record that, anything that brings u out to the main screen, your controller settings revert back to a default. This has been mentioned in the support forum and still hasn’t been addressed. Most people wouldn’t notice it, but can cause issues for those used to certain settings.
With regards to career mode, you can tune and upgrade the cars just fine, but the PI requirements are often not the regular A/B/C classes. For instance, the Ultimate Grand Tourer career mode has a PI limit of 750. You can find a list of all the career classes and their PI limits in this post from ManteoMax.
The GT cars that are used in the Nürburgring endurance showcase require a bit of throttle control to behave nicely in some of the turns. Secondly, their individual characteristics are different, something I learned when I tested their fuel consumption and tyre wear at Road Atlanta, the results are written up in this googledoc. Due to the high fuel consumption of the Ferrari 458 (and the Audi R8), I’d prefer a different car as I’d most likely be able to get away with only pitting once (one of your competitors is likely driving the very fast BMW M3 GT2, but has to pit three times, might as well take advantage of that). If you choose to use the 458, one of the things I noted when I did my testing on Road Atlanta is that the gearing seems lighter than expected, so I’d be in a higher gear than in many of the other cars in order to keep the car stable. Going to a lower gear meant I’d have to do a bit of manual rev-matching and ease off the throttle to not make the car oversteer under deceleration. Good luck, keep at it and I’m sure you’ll bring home the win!
You’re going to need to give us some further information here. Does this happen with every car you normally drive, have you upgraded these cars in any way or adjusted their tuning settings? Have you changed your controller’s deadzones to 0/100?
What difficulty did you have your AI set to? There is a known issue whereby the leading AI cars can occasionally drive faster than their assigned difficulty level.
Was the car stock or auto-upgraded to have similar PI to the others? If it’s the latter than you may have too much power for what that car can handle. Lower the power output and put wider rear tyres on the car, that will sort out the oversteer.
Mods are optional and don’t affect either Leaderboards or Multiplayer. If you don’t like them you don’t have to use them at all, and can sell every Mod you get for a small CR bonus.
VIP Membership has been around since Forza Motorsport 3.
Tokens have been around since Forza Motorsport 4. If you play for anything above a bar minimum amount of time, Forza Motorsport 6 will throw enough CR at you to never need to worry about buying a car again. I play daily and am currently sitting at 126,000,000 CR. If you don’t like seeing the Token currency in-game you can hide it via the HUD options.
Jumping from FM4 to FM6 is much more difficult than jumping from FM5 to FM6. The physics are different and the controller is different.
Trying to play FM6 the same way you play FM4 will end in lots of yelling because they’re not the same game and while similar, the controllers are different. I don’t race cars IRL so I can’t specifically comment as to which one is more realistic, but I know there has been a lot of research done on physics since FM4 was released so I’d have to think FM6 is more realistic than FM4. I used to be quite good at FM4, and the other day I picked it up just for fun and I couldn’t play it because I had gotten used to FM6’s physics - I was all over the road. I reckon you’re dealing with the same thing, just the other way around. Realize it’s a completely different game when it comes to handling and approach it as such. Just jump into some slower cars and really practice, you’ll get it in a few days.
There are plenty of top lb times with no assists. You need to get used to the different tuning and physics engine from fm4. It took me quite a while to get up to speed there is a big difference between 4 and 6.
And Nasties no slouch behind the wheel. there is an adjustment curve, and if you fight it you’ll drive yourself nutz. Start with a lower class car and get the feel for it. Smoother inputs, more precise corner entries, ease on the throttle exiting and you’ll see benefits.
As for undrivable without aids, I just use the braking line as a reference to aid my old eyes…everything else off…
Physics changed a lot in FM5 and were improved in FM6. The cars actually have character now and you can’t always drive them really hard and expect to grip.
FM4 had high grip in just about everything. I went back to play and thought it was easy mode compared to the newer forzas. Give it time and you’ll adjust.
Physics are one of a handful of things they did right with FM6.
Like the poster said above me, do not run sim steering. Normal steering feels like sim steering from FM4.
Just to note, it was specifically noted that sim steering should be only used with a wheel not a controller. I’ve done only a few races with no assists and did not have too much trouble although I usually keep TCS on. Tuning helps, and like others have said going from 4 to 6 is a big difference than going from 5 to 6.
I run sim steering and have no issues. It does offer more control, but u have to be easy and also the tunes are different from normal steering. I actually dial in under steer to avoid the twitchy steering feel of sim steering.
I have also become disgruntled with this Forza, but I love cars so I always go back to build cars, and online when it’s working.
Is FM6 harder than the predecessors with regards to maintaining traction yourself? Well its different.
But is it impossible to drive fast without TCS? Absolutely not.
It is still possible with a controller using the triggers to do so…it is simply a training thing - train your brain and fingers to ease onto the gas.
If you can not yet do it but want to then practise.
I think the real issue is the mod cards. I think they may have made the base physics tougher with the expectation people will use mod cards to make them quicker somehow. In my opinion that totally ruins the game. Give us a base physics model that works and scrap the mod cards.
If you’ve come straight from forza 4 it’s a big difference. The Xbox 1 controller is a lot more sensitive to inputs that the 360 controller. The range of movement in the throttle or brake from no input to full throttle or brake is very small in comparison to Forza 4. Don’t be discouraged with time and practice you’ll get the hang of it. There’s more top drivers racing without TCS now than there ever was in Forza 4. Basically the amount of trigger movement is now a lot less for the same effect. Also cars in totally stock form, no upgrades or tuning, probably will be a more difficult than they were in forza 4. Lots of cars have a sort of off throttle snap oversteer and they need the differential deceleration increasing to fix it. Put a race differential on and increase the decel a lot and you’ll see.
I’ve started calling it the Old Whiplash Whiparound. It comes out of nowhere, slight throttle input doesn’t matter, under braking doesn’t matter, off throttle turning in slow doesn’t matter, curb or no curb doesn’t matter. I don’t know if it’s inherent in the car or is it in it’s tune. I’ve tried both 2014 F458 GT Ferrari’s with about 4 or 5 separate tunes on each and they both do it. Not every car does it which is why it’s so hard to figure out the cause. The cars that have it are so twitchy. The least little steering input is liable to start it spinning.
I can’t tell if it’s something in the diff settings or he way the suspension is set up that causes it. It’s almost like the outer edges of steering ability right before the falloff greatly amplify the car’s turning ratio. It’s like it goes from 16:9.1 to 6:9.1 in a fraction of an inch. You hit that edge and it goes to full lock. It’s like going 60MPH in your road car around a slight bend and you move the steering wheel just a small touch and it throws it into full lock. The reason I said something about the diff is say on a right turn it’s like you can feel the rear end trying to kick out to the left and cause that snap oversteer.
It’s the most frustrating part of gameplay in Forza 6 for me. It’s what drives me absolutely crazy when it happens. My blood pressure probably shoots up 500 points.
