RTGI looks fantastic!

It’s simple at noon or if it’s very cloudy with diffuse light it doesn’t look good. But in the morning or evening or night or if it rains it looks good. It’s all about the time of the day and weather. If you have lousy weather irl and look outside it also looks ugly, that is how it is. And comparing it to PS2 or PS3 era or a mix of it is just wrong. Just go play a PS2 or PS3 racing game and check out how horrible they look like compared to FM23. I tried playing GT4 with a PS2 emulator 2 or 3 years ago and my eyes almost started to bleed so horrible it looked. Back then these games looked better on CRT monitors/tv’s, you can’t compare that to the much sharper monitors/tv’s that have up to 8K resolution and such.

It was like playing with vaseline on the screen on old tv’s, at super low resolution. That has hidden so many graphical weird things etc. you simply can’t compare that.

Lol i wouldnt go that far. Realistic in their color tones, where gt7 has a lot more contrast. But they over did it with haze and the urine color filter they applied. Horizon actually has a good setting to show this called saturation which when turned down looks like motorsport and when turned up looks more like gt7.

I took your advice, and its the way to go for me to run RTGI in triple screens. I owe you an apology but, the Xhibit meme still applies.

At times the game looks like a model train diorama, other times it looks like I am watching TV footage. It doesn’t stay there but it can and does look realistic from time to time.

I got the same impression & wondered “why is this such a big deal?”
Seems like a lot of fuss over nothing.
Look everyone! We reinvented the wheel & replaced it with something much more expensive!
Seems like something game companies just want to add to their buzzword bingo card regardless of how little actual gameplay value it brings.

They watered down the RTGI, not just in the cockpit view but in all scenarios. It looks low res compared to the visualtarget mod and, therefore, has less detail than the ordinary gi.

Today I made a change that gives me something a touch better than running RTGI with DLSS performance. I run RTGI with TAA and the resolution scale set to 75%.

Now, I hear everyone in the thread, and I agree that it is blurry. In fact, its leaning even more into the blurriness. But compared to DLSS Performance, TAA @ 75% gives me a clearer image, it doesn’t scale back RTGI effects, and doesn’t make mud of trackside details, such as plants, signs and whatnot. TAA @ 75% also does not create artifacts on wires, poles and other thin items that normally get smeared by DLSS.

The best part, it also makes the game perform better than DLSS performance. With DLSS I get anywhere from 50’s to 70’s in the FPS counter, depending on what’s happening. TAA @ 75% stays above 62FPS but is often in the upper 70’s for most of the race.

The downsides of TAA @ 75%? Its blurry, so the finer details are lost. It compounds full RT reflection blur. Also, things like the leaves on trees aren’t defined at distances, so the trees at Maple Valley for example, look like they are made of clay at a distance.

The ugly… Most of what I just said are downsides can be reclaimed with NVidia filters. LOL

For me, this is how I am going to run RTGI going forward, unless the developers manage to get enough performance out of the engine so I can run it at TAA 100%.

Huh? Can you quote my comment? Don’t even know what you’re responding to.

On the reply, theres an arrow. Looks like an upside down return arrow. Press it, and behold Ya’ll.

Well, that’s the reply button. How do I know what he replied to in the first place? Not very forum savvy, hehe

lol…just noticed the name you gave to the image…

It’s like when you’re sitting in a barber shop getting your hair cut, and there’s a mirror in front of and behind you :face_with_tears_of_joy:

I’m hoping others join in and make an infinite mirror effect haha

Quoting things like this is not as easy as it seems. I had to click and drag but, I am sure someone could tell me the easy way. LOL BTW, for some reason, I can get away with running RTGI at 60fps with DLSS set to Quality. I’m not complaining. In fact, I want more of it!
