Rivals & Notifications: Who gets one?

Hello everyone.

In recent weeks I’ve gotten more into Rivals as it’s the only real “competitive” area in Forza Horizon 5.

As I challenge and get challenged by people I am left wondering who exactly gets notifications when I take on somebody and beat their time.

For reference,
[quoted below is a similar thread from Forza Horizon 3]
(https://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst92999_Rivals-and-Notifications--An-Investigation.aspx). Is everything the same or have there been some changes in the meantime?

Additionally, if I manually select somebody from the Rivals boards and beat their time, would they get a notification, even if we have no Friendship/Club commonality?
In other words, if I challenge a #1 time and beat them, will my rival get notified?

Thanks in advance for any info on this. :slightly_smiling_face:

Is it possible to disable these notifications?

it never used to send a notification to the person you beat (my rivals list would be much bigger than it is), but you’re welcome to test against gamertag.
i’ll update this message with a couple of routes that i run later on

edit:
Tierro Prospera Circuit - C Class - 00:01:32.283
Llanuras Sprint - B Class - 00:02:52.472

I don’t like the way it tries to make me beat somebody that I’ve already beat.

My understanding has always been that you had to be the selected rival & on the other person’s friends list to receive a notification.

So if I select Hanson and beat his time, he would get a notification but if in the process of beating him, I beat other people on my friends list - they wouldn’t get one.

The FH3 summary above is still accurate. It doesn’t matter whose ghost you run your time against, anyone who has friended you will get a notification if they have a time on that course and you beat them (probably same for club members but I’m not so certain about that). No one else will get a notification even if you directly beat their ghost.

I don’t think you get notifications for club members not on your friends list…the club I’m in, members do a lot of Rivals but I never get notifications despite them beating my ghosts (pretty sure they must have done anyway given I have a lot of times)

Yeah I used to race club members in FH3 and often if I beat a time, I would get another one from the same person beating me again, it worked well. Though there should have been an option to disable it selectively for people who want fewer notifications. FH5 still has no such option! I like some notifications but I don’t need to know that someone has beaten a slow dirty time I set when I was racing the AI in an uncompetitive car, and then that time I set got added to the rivals board (apparently this is what happens anyway).

While we’re at it, how about adding an option for people to choose that their race times are not added to the rivals boards. That would be one way to cut down on notifications.

I’m in a 2000 member club and have maybe received 15 Rivals notifications. So I doubt Clubs on its own triggers it. Sounds like Friends and Followers with a mix of someone has accepted (and beaten) the challenge of your time when presented it as a close one by the game.

Just be careful if you get too many notifications and you delete them too quickly - the game will crash as it used to in FH4. If you go steady and at least wait for the time gap to your rival to appear, it doesn’t seem to crash. Not sure about notifications for other club members without following, I suspect not.

Honestly, I feel anxiety every time I delete a rivals notification. My heart sinks when it crashes AGAIN and you have to endure the long loading with its baked-in delays. My number one annoyance in this game is the loading times.

That’s how I used to feel about the load times on the original Xbox one. It was excruciatingly slow, far worse than any other game I can remember playing.

It seems crazy to me that you’re now experiencing it on PC, on what I assume is at least comparable if not superior to the Series X specs.

I honestly don’t think I would’ve continued with Forza if I hadn’t (luckily) bagged a Series X (at RRP, up yours scalpers!) just because of the painful load times.

Life’s too short for that nonsense.

Here you go… 80 seconds, loading from SSD.

Most of the time delay is baked-in, unrelated to the speed of my PC. Only after you click continue does it do any actual loading, that's the only time hardware performance is a factor.

I’m not a member of a club and earlier this evening I finally claimed the last vehicle (‘C’ class) on the 5% Rivals Leaderboard Accolade.
Got all the relevant prize vehicles safe in my garage… then checked the ‘Rivals Accolade’ board.
The ‘B’ & ‘D’ class ones weren’t lit up. They were golden & achieved yesterday, even though I successfully won them in the past 36 hrs and claimed the 2 prize cars.
I can only assume someone has bettered my times on those two Drag races on Rivals in the past day ? The vehicle prizes are safe, it’s just those two particular Rivals Accolades has gone greyed again.
Could be yet another glitch ?

Yeah, that’s painful. From an albeit addled memory, it does look to be about on par with my original Xbox.

No doubt ‘by design’ tho, so not a snowballs chance it’ll be looked at or even acknowledged any time soon.

Not to rub salt in the wound, but the Series X comes in at a somewhat sprightly 38 seconds’ for comparison

Yes I feel that the PC version could load in that sort of time too, if they’d wanted it to. Not having unskippable splash screens would help. You could skip those on the first FH1 on Xbox 360, and the 360 version of FH2 (the latter was by a different developer I know). I haven’t got any other game which loads this slowly (I mean except FH3 and FH4).

Thanks for the replies.

So it seems that for somebody else to get a notification, they need to be following/friending me.

That’s a shame as I was hoping to build new friendships/rivalries through Rivals. It would have been nice to have that back-and-forth you get with somebody you target and beat on the boards.

I’m also surprised that club members who don’t follow/friend me don’t get notifications either.

Oh well.
