Rivals Challenge - FH5 Edition

IDK @Rayne_SE … I think I would recommend TC on for noobs like myself. I just did 3 laps of Circuit De Spa, first lap with TC off and I was skating on ice literally. Then turned TC on and it was night n day. Sitting just outside of top 50 after 2 laps. Had full control and enjoyed it. Top 30ish now.

Btw is it just me or is rivals in MS next level… Ability to restart lap, new rival appears after beating last rival, fast sector times, leaderboards for birth/age/sex/country, ability to copy driver tunes although bugged. It’s a huge step up from Rivals in Horizon and I don’t quite understand why Horizon doesn’t add all these features…

I don’t know about FM5 but it’s worked like that since FM6 if I remember rightly.

The instant next rival + get tune (if it actually worked) were definitely there I’m sure.

I saw @Jezza14 on the other night… I was going to party invite, but I figured he just fell asleep with PC still on.

I guess dealing with FH rivals for so long we forgot how good it is in FM.

I love the MP racing, other than getting spun out by noobs if I don’t qualify high enough… but in FM7 it seemed easier to get the tunes of the cars in the race, unless I’m missing something.

I’ve had over half a dozen people message me why I’m constantly playing rivals in MP

How many cars have you all farmed now in FM? I’m up to 20, all LVL 50.

new SuperGT video really sums up the end-result of the upgrade system. every online multiplayer race has turned into a multi-class race, with 770pi upgrades racing against 710pi stock, etc

the gap between the haves and have-nots is widening, the have-nots are unlikely to even try keeping up unless they’re serious players. even to me, unless they alter it somehow, it almost feels too late to bother

edit: great drivers shouldn’t finish 31 seconds back in any race just because they don’t have access to upgrades. it’s nonsensical.

I mean the fact that SuperGT admits he resorted to afk farming just shows how afk farming has not only become the norm but seems like it’s an acceptable way to play the game.

6-7 years of development and they come up with this crap leveling system clearly directed by someone high up who cares nothing about the game or players and solely about metrics/reports/revenue.

I thought the same exact thing, it was laughable, him resorting to mindless afk race prep. I hope they’re watching

welp, they fixed progression to some extent. looks like about an hour per car now.

Unfortunately as someone going for the 1000G it’s made no difference for me, the full 50 still takes the same amount of time, and you’ll still need to earn enough car points to buy what you want despite them being unlocked much quicker now.

Something they could have done if they want to encourage driving, double the XP you get from segments and give 10’s their own boosted amount, I was amazed when I first noticed a perfect 10 just gives 50xp like anything between 9 and 9.9, push people towards learning to and subsequently getting segments perfect by rewarding them appropriately when they do.

that’s dumb, most video games dating back to the 80s give you a disproportionate amount of reward the closer you get to perfect. I can afk 9’s in a lot of cases, 9.5’s should be worth double, and 10’s double that.

one of the worst upgrade locks is body kits, unless they somehow add a level of performance that horizon doesn’t have relatively speaking.

they say you “should” be able to unlock a car in one builders cup now, they “should” have just made that the standard

Awesome! At first I couldn’t think of how the management at T10 don’t think exactly like this… but then I remembered,… they don’t think.

There is always the marketing crap (metrics, etc… ) that are partly to blame, but there is also the crap way people approach software these days. I have written millions of lines of code and managed delivery of IT projects for major pharmaceuticals. There is something people today have to learn… Rapid and Development are two words that should never enter the same thought, let alone the same sentence, let alone a &$$^# paradigm. (unless that sentence is development should never be rapid)

And then there is the absolutely blinded by dollars management… take Gran Turismo (there a tons of other examples across every industry)

" Back in the early 1990s when Sony was first branching out into gaming, a young designer named Kazunori Yamauchi wanted nothing more than to produce the racing game he had dreamed about since he was 15. Sony had other ideas in mind.

The company apparently felt his idea for an ultra-realistic driving simulator wouldn’t sell, so Yamauchi instead focused his efforts on a Mario Kart-esque game for the first PlayStation called MotorToon Grand Prix."

“Through it all, Yamauchi himself has been something of a cipher, a quiet, even ghostlike figure who stayed in the background even as his games sold more than 70 million copies worldwide and he himself entered the realm of professional auto racing.
How The Creator Of Gran Turismo Changed The Culture Of Speed (jalopnik.com)

and that was written in 2014.

Grrr!

The more I read all your post the more I get convinced I’m not getting into all that ‘frustration’ again. Not a fan of FM after two hours or so mostly because of that idiotic system of CP/CR/XP. Secondly the behaviour of some cars doesn’t seem to make any sense. Not writing it of yet, but for now gameplay wise as a total experience for me it’s not an improvement over FM7.

Wanna know what’s dumb? Joining MP but not owning all eligible cars. Wanna know what’s dumber? Owning one of the eligible cars but not having the required CP to tune it fully. Wanna know what’s even dumber? Having enough CP and not being able to find a good tune since tuners are currently hesitant to share good tunes due to exploit where players can steal other players tunes. Wanna know what’s even dumber? Finally having an eligible car with enough CP to apply a good tune then realising the cars not competitive.

My goodness you all have kept this going for a loooong time, that’s awesome. I am upset with myself that I stopped jumping on the forums. Switched to a facetubes group because I could post pics of my cars, I could never get it right on the forums without a PC.

Anyway, I’m anxiously awaiting some rivals comps amd i hope for a return of some old school Tuning Comps! I really miss those, although I do acknowledge the amount of work a Tuning Comp entails. Some of my favorite time from FM6! Those comps and Moss’ weekly HLCs. I dont hate the game so far. Ive been mostly leveling cars in rivals as I play so there isn’t much other than my 3rd Gen Z/28 I leveled to 50. I shared a tune for each class and a basic paint job for it. I think the sharing is gonna take a hit with the leveling system but it’s what they gave us.

Anyway, it’s great to see some familiar names, I’ve been seeing them pop up in rivals. Just be sure to wave as you pass me, :grimacing:!

Within the first day or two I played MP on FM, I had such a cool experience. It was a longer race, all the cars were competitive relative to each other, and to top it off, I needed to figure out when to pit relative to the remaining laps and my position. I ended up getting an extra lap because I had medium tires on rather than soft. I was a few positions behind, but with that extra lap with the other cars pitting, I picked up a few positions and finished second.

Hasn’t happened since… but it was a lot of fun!

Back on FH5, I’m doing A class dirt on Desierto trail, restricted to Nissan, if anyone would like to join. I know most have their attention set to FM8. Both Forsberg Racing Nissans are allowed as well.
