Right Hand Drive

Since forza horizon 3 is based in Australia cars that have a right hand drive for example the M4, will that be an option to drive on the right hand side of the car with cars that are built both left and right hand. Because it would make sense because the game is based in a country that drives on the right hand side of the car.

I think the cars have the wheels on the side of vehicle that its country of origin has it

British = RHD
Japanese = RHD
American = LHD
European = LHD
Austrlian = RHD

You get the idea so it won’t matter if the cars are in Australia you mentioned the M4 since its European it will be LHD

Hmm that is an interesting question…

I hope the Australian cars are right hand side, if not I’ll cry.

Whatever type of car turn 10 laser scanned will be the one in the game. Being an american based developer they usually have access to the U.S. spec car. If a car is not available in the U.S. and has rhd it will be modelled accordingly.

Yep, it all depends on the car they have to model. If they have a RHD version of a usually LHD car, you’ll get RHD in game because that’s the data they had to work with. It’s as simple as that. This has come up many times and that is the answer they give every time. If the car you are driving in game is LHD, that’s because they had a LHD model to scan. If it’s RHD in game, well i’m sure you can’t work it out.

This. As models are typically reused you for the ones which are in FM6 you can expect the same steering position in FH3. I just hope that bugs with lots of cars wont carry over.

Also keep in mind that their models for this game won’t ONLY be used in this game. Assuming they have a choice at all, they’ll want to use whatever is worth having throughout the series, not just what fits Australia.

It should be an option, all they need to do is flip the interior.

I’m so used to playing LHD that I now avoid RHD cars lol and I’m from England. I prefer LHD tbh after using it so much but an option would be great.

It’s not that simple. Remember that these will be full Forzavista cars. If they just mirrored the interior, the pedals and probably some of the other controls (indicator stalks, etc) would be the wrong way around. It would take a significant amount of artist man-hours to make two versions of each car, which I think would be better spent adding entirely new cars.

Good drivers adjust to their equipment anyway.

Very true in both regards.

There’s a great deal more than mirroring an interior to make it LHD or RHD etc. as you’ve mentioned, controls differ as do dash components and positioning of those.

And additionally, good drivers to adapt quickly to changes in driving styles.

I went to the States in 2010 and traveled around in a nice Dodge for several weeks. It took me about 2 blocks to be accustomed to road conditions, turn left at any time and just driving on the opposite side of the road I’ve grown up on.

But many gamers haven’t actually driven a car, a lot have, while a smaller number have driven all types of cars, and different driving positions. So there’s lots of variables in changing driving positions, and becoming aquanted with driving not only in the other side of the car, but on the opposite side of the road.

A better question is which side of the road are the cars driving on in the game?

Should be on the left in Australia. Can’t remember from the demo…

i kinda noticed that i havent given this one a thought. just watched the demo again… the cars drive in the left lane… thats gonna be wierd for me, but i Guess after 20-30 hours it won’t be noticable anymore :slight_smile:

i like that they keep the rules for the country. everything that makes it more realistic is welcome :slight_smile:

Now you understand the delema that around 1/3 or the Forza population has to deal with every day when playing almost all racing games developed in the States, Canada etc.

It’ll only take you less than an hour to get accustomed to the righthander drive. Yes, that’s an oddity, they drive on the left yet call it right hand drive.

Mainly because the cars controls etc are set up on the righthand side of the vehicle. And we drive on the left side of the road when facing in the direction we want to go. And visa versa for the U.S. And other Lefthand drive countries.

Odd isn’t it lol.

But honestly, so long as you always remember, that the Center Line is ALWAYS on your Right Hand Side, you’ll never have an issue.

Because no matter what side the car is set up for, we all must have the Centre Zline on our Right Hand Side, always. So that makes getting accustomed very easy, once you get your brain remembering that simple fact. That’s all there is to it in the end.

If you’re making a habit of driving dangerously all over the road and in excess of the speed limit then I don’t think it matters which side of the road the domestic traffic will be driving on.

Typically, I don’t. I don’t like crashing into anything, animate or inanimate. With the exception of doing the actual street races, I try to drive as fast as I can without crashing. Or just drive around and play with the car for fun. And I don’t recall ever seeing a speed limit in a Horizon?

In both previous Horizons I adjusted to driving on the right and it is generally easier to avoid crash when driving with the flow of traffic. Will be nice to drive on the left like I am accustomed to.

Though Drivatars are the wildcard as they are way more unpredictable on an open road than a closed circuit. The number of times I have been stationary, somewhere remote in a Horizon and out if nowhere a drivatar has totaled my car …

Anyway, it seems like the cars do drive on the left.

Who said that I don’t do realistic driving when I’m bored? :stuck_out_tongue:

A modern driving game where they drive on the left, hallelujah!

Being from the UK that’s the norm for me but years, decades even, of gaming has taught me to drive on the right!

You know something mate, that’s probably why I just gelled straight away when I did a 6 week stint in the West Coast of The States back in 2010. Driving alone the huge freeways,small country roads, winding mountain roads and navigating various towns and city’s. It just felt so natural.

It took me just two blocks to get used to it, learning the constant turn left at anytime, even on red lights was an interesting twist. I was cautious about it initially prior to going over. But it just felt natural once I was behind the wheel… I actually spent several days on Forza and GRiD prior to leaving. It certainly helped.

I just kept the notion that the Centre Line MUST ALWAYS be on your right hand side of your body. That just cemented the synapse into my brain, and it was simple from there on in.

In the US, you can’t turn left on a red light, only on a green light and obviously when there is no oncoming traffic. You can, however, turn right on red, again obviously assuming there’s no cross-traffic approaching. Also, if you keep the center line on the right hand side of your body, then you’re driving in the left lane.
