Right or Left Hand Drive

I’m sure this subject has been brought up before but I’m interested to see what other racers opinions are on it, what side of the road do you drive on in your country left or right. I only ask as I noticed just the other night that having the steering wheel on the opposite side that I use in the real world did have an effect on my driving style just a little one but it was noticeable to myself.
I just wondered if anybody else had problems even if barely noticeable with technically driving on the wrong side of the road and furthermore also wondered if their could be the possibility in Forza’s future of including the option to choose what side your steering wheel was actually on and whether all my fellow racers had an opinion on this. Cheers.

Strangely enough, despite being in the USA, I seem to drive slightly better with right-hand-drive cars. No idea why.

Makes me mad though, because 'Murica.

It’d be nice to be able to choose, but it’ll never happen. Too much redundant work on T10’s part - they as well as most other players would rather they focus on additional new content rather than switching the side the steering wheel’s on.

Perhaps in a game like Horizon, if it took place in a country that drove on other side of the road than what I’m accustom to (American left-side of car, right side of road), then yes. Or if I owned a wheel and only drove in cockpit view. Although for me personally, I don’t have a problem with it. It may be a bit annoying to have a car like a Honda be a right-side drive, but I also know they are Japanese cars, first and foremost. So if they don’t use the North American/left-side drive version in game, then it’s all good, I get it. I know this may be a bit off topic, but if they would allow you to move the camera view in cockpit then I could see this being more more of an issue, as I would drive most of the time in car. Although, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t understand someone having a fairly major issue with it, as everyone has their own personal “OCD-ish” quirks about them. I’m glad you brought this up because you can really tell when someone enjoys something be it a game, sport, etc. when they pick the little things apart. Well that and your Forza Total Points, lol.

Of course it can have an effect on your driving. Think like so, the circuits going clockwise and you sitting right next to the apex (if you are in a right handed card) and vice versa, if the track is in the other direction you will be on the outside when hitting the apex.
Or let me say it so, if you have good feeling to a car in its size, it won’t have an effect on the driving.

I too live in America and I tend to use the left hand drive cars. But, I will use RHD’s too when the league calls for it. I only prefer the LHD’s because that is what I am used to. I also tend to forget I am racing with a LHD and end up either giving too much room on the left or not enough on RHD.

It would be an awesome detail to add, but I fear it would take a significant amount of development, and thus we will probably never see this.

Considering most companies have to build 2 completely separate cockpits for left and right hand driving, it makes sense that only the native country’s driving side is available.

I remember one time I had to drive a Toyota Yaris (don’t judge me, it was a rental while my car was in the shop :stuck_out_tongue: ) and the dials and such were actually in the center of the dashboard so that the car could easily be changed from right to left hand and vice versa. Worst. Car. Ever.

More on topic, I don’t find it too distracting or difficult to drive right-hand drive cars (I’m from the U.S.), but I am disappointed that my actual car (2008 Mitsubishi Lancer) is a right hand drive car in the game. Kind of kills the immersion for me because I know that cockpit like the back of my hand (except its a left hand drive)

I live in America myself, but I tend to prefer RHD vehicles. I mainly run Japanese vehicles in the game as much as I can because that’s just my personal preference when it comes to handling/power. So I guess I have grown accustomed to driving RHD cockpits. And also, strangely enough, I drive better while in the cockpit view compared to outside the vehicle. Is that strange or normal? lol.

What about center seat? The McLaren F1 and F1GT come to mind as well as a lot of the purpose build race cars have the seat in the middle.

American, so LHD for real-life driving. I’ve never driven an actual RHD car, but I had little trouble adapting in the game. In fact, not long ago I bought a new car in game (forget which right now) and took it out for a familiarization run and didn’t notice until I’d driven 5 laps that it was RHD.

Thanks for the input guys and gals and you’re probably right we won’t be seeing the option of changing between LH or RH which is a shame as it could have been a nice addition to use on tracks with either a load of right hand or left hand turns. As I said the difference it makes is small but in a race even the smallest issue can have an effect on results my main problem is that driving left hand cars I tend to either leave not enough or too much space in the turns which affects how you come of the apex but as many of you have said its just getting used to it then before you know where you are you don’t even notice if the car is LF or RH.
The option would be nice though.

I wish I hadn’t waited until today to try this game, it was towards the bottom of my list, I just got a Xbox One at Christmas for my kids. I would have returned this game immediately. I think they should have an option to switch sides, it is a GAME, one that I will not enjoy as much, if at all. Well. to the bottom of the pile with it.

There are a large number of cars that were never produced in both left and right hand drive. So there’s no interior to model, even if they wanted to.
