As long as the weather isn’t too severe, you can drive for a bit with the top down in light to moderate rain. Heavy storms - while the car will still drive, your visibility inside the car becomes horrid. Don’t just think rain coming down from above - speed can limit that - it’s water coming around the windshield/ windows and blowing in from behind that that makes you wet, miserable, and unable to see. Eventually you do have to stop or slow to put up the top.
A challenge where could choose a faster convertible starting with the top down or a slower hardtop, but with a weather change that required you to put up the top in the convertible would be interesting ala Top Gear’s start with the top down drag race a while back.
I remember having top down controls in TDU2 and it was pretty cool to be able to do that. I hope that Horizon 2 implements this to add to the immersion. Will it affect my buying decision if it’s not in the game, no. But it’d sure be cool if it did.
Even if there are working roofs for when it starts raining like in tdu, what happens to my very expensive testa rossa when caught in a downpour! the interior is gonna get ruined
Here’s another question, if they do put in convertible roofs; what if a car didn’t have a motorized top? Like the Shelby Cobra, which at best you can buy a top to put on it. Or if there are any classic cars that require you to manually put the roof on?
Racing tires will probably not be too good in the rain but the street or sport will be pretty good at it. Maybe they’ll put in an all season tire like they put in a drag tire…
Personally I doubt that race tires will be part of FH2. We won’t be racing around a track, in a closed environment with pits so you can change your tires more or less immediately.
But the first Horizon didn’t have rain. What happens if I’m racing on slick tires and a storm comes? A big mess, right? Should I try to finish the race on slick tires or go back, head to the garage, change them and try again? Don’t know, to me It seems that they would cause some troubles… If they come up with a great solution then I’ll be happy to say I was wrong.
I know where you’re getting at. Forza always followed the three level upgrades formula. Street tires being the first, sport tires being the second, and race being the ultimate. The solution T10 would use is to add a special type of tires that would be called like “rain tires” or something.
Yes, rain tires would be the solution but that’s one part of the problem.
As I said before, in a Motorsport title you can drive to the pits, choose a different tire compound and you’re good to go and complete the race.
In an open world game, like Horizon of course, that’s not possible. The problem isn’t about what kind of tires you’re going to choose: sports, slick or rain. The problem, in my opinion, is about how and when you’re able to do so. To make an example, in the first Horizon there were the main Dak’s garage and a bunch of outposts. But those can’t provide an “immediate” change of tires, when you’re in the middle of a race (or when you’re just driving around the map) and It starts raining.
Yeah, also this was the same case with racing tire performance off-road, where racing tires simply increased overall grip, whether on tarmac or dirt.
Also it would become quite bothersome in multiplayer - you would have to fit every car with wet tires and save the setup so that you’re not at a disadvantage when the next race is set in the rain.
They could scatter service stations around the map for fuel/tyres/repairs. They could also perform the functions of the Horizon Outposts from the 1st game.
Racing slicks aren’t street legal to begin with, in most places. What I think they should do is use DoT approved slicks, which have just enough tread to keep you out of the ditch when it rains.
I was ecstatic when I learned that Horizon was heading to the French and Italian Riviera but when I heard about weather effects such as rain, my heart dropped. Why? Because it makes me wonder: Will we have open top convertibles (modern convertibles I mean, not old ones)? Because I’m not trying to be a critic, but it would be such a bummer not to be able to explore this beautiful world without a 458 Spider or R8 Spider.
If it doesn’t make it into the game, I’ll always wonder, “TDU2 had this feature, why couldn’t this game have it?”
I made a thread similar to this, sorry mods. I didn’t realize one like it already existed. But this is what I had posted:
