No convertible tops in Horizon 4?!

I just heard from a reply to a comment on a YouTube video that we won’t be able to drive convertibles with the roof taken off in FH4, and this is what the reply - which was posted by a YouTube user called Steve Reynolds - said: "I thought I heard/watched an interview where one of the devs were asked that question and they said you are NOT going to be able to drive them as convertibles. :-/ "

Another reply to another comment on the same video said a similar thing, and this is what that reply said, as posted by YouTube user Epic Random Gamer: "They’ve already said that convertable tops won’t be a thing sadly "

I mean, come on! How hard could it possibly be for the developers to allow us to drive convertibles with the roof taken off, especially as we are able to take the roof off in ForzaVista…

I think a lot of loyal players would appreciate if they include a feature like this. I really cant understand why, It is already possible in forzavista and in the FH3 developer version. it doesn’t have to be a feature in game while free roaming. it would be fine to be an option inside the garage/festival.

Really sad to hear that. If they say no, I would assume they would/should give an explanation to why they don’t put such a trivial feature in the game.

If I remember correctly, you could do that in TDU2 (back in 2011).

I thought it was TDU2.

It hasn’t been a feature in any Forza game, even Xbox One generation and to be honest, it’s not a huge deal that we don’t have the capability to put the top up or down and it would really only be useful for photo mode or Forzavista. Other than those two functions, there is no point in it and it isn’t a gamebreaker.

Edit: Grammatical errors and clarification.

Untrue, TDU2 on the xbox360 had this feature and GTA5 has it.
Furthermore, I think its rather subjective saying ‘‘no point in it’’. I think lots of people want to drive, drift or whatever with an open top. Just like others want to change their rims, change bumpers or put body kits on cars. You are missing the point, its about giving players the opportunity to do it. Especially when its already available in FV and in the FH3 developer version.

I was referring to Forza as that is what the original topic of the thread was, I am aware that both TDU2 and GTA have this feature.

For all we know they’ve tested the mechanic and there is some flaw in it, which why it hasn’t been in the full release.

In a way, Horizon 1 had convertibles in it, albeit in a different manner. It had the two versions for some of the cars, the fixed roof version and the roof down convertible version.

Untrue.

FM4 had it in Forzavista only

Yes, but we’ve been referring to being able to lower/raise the roof while driving the car.

Well from he’s voice I can say: “no we haven’t got this feature in FH4 but…” I 100% sure that it is coming on FH5 so make here ss.

TDU1 and TDU2 both had retractable top vehicles

My only thought would be if they would need two interior models per convertible. I am not sure from a coding stand point how the cars are made. Obviously in Forzavista they have no issue animating the convertible tops or removing targa tops. So there shouldn’t be any issue with making the convertible top a cosmetic modification like a bumper or a spoiler, but if the non-convertible car interiors can’t support the weather effects or lighting effects that the convertible interiors do then they would either need to make two interior models for each convertible or redo all of the interior models for each convertible.

It seems in the current test builds your player character does not have access to a pick and a hammer to pry open a 458 Italia’s roof. What a shame.

Only cars I know of in the game with electric roof are the Z4 E89 and the SLK 55 AMG, All of the others either don’t have any roof whatsoever, don’t have a convertible roof, or have targa tops. So what’s the point?

The Prowler and S2000 should have electric roofs (rooves?) as well, as does the Rolls Royce Dawn, I think.

I guess it has to be a level of detail issue then, too much retroactive work on so many cars. Although I’m not sure the number of convertibles could be ‘that’ high?

It sucks though. I really wish we could have this feature. It’s a shame TDU still has remarkable advantages over current games but that’s the price you pay for the graphical advancements of today.

I’d like to see an official reason though, still.

Edit: Ugh, posted this on the wrong account! for the record this a post from Death Burnout.

TDU was an awesome game but with some flaws of its own. Bad upgrade system, terrible sounds and poorly-made models, for one.

However, it had custom interior trim and I can’t understand why Forza doesn’t give us this feature.

Could be because it’s a racing game that the majority of players simply race around in. That’s what I do anyways.

I don’t think turn 10 is aware of the term “retroactive work”. The only do the work one time - then sell it to us once a year. All this silliness about convertibles would mess up their business model - so of course it won’t be happening.

But yet the feature was still in game to raise and lower the roof. While driving no, but the mechanics of it, were still there. So it is worth the mention.
