That was phenomenal! That Kohler V4 brought a tear of nostalgia to my eye as I actually had one of those on an old hay bailer. And the sound was so spot on.
If only the game studios could employ people of this caliber?

@MikeJoe1990 , I just thought you might find this interesting. I took some test measurements in my living room just to see the sound of the Ferrari 430. I did an FFT analysis of the TV sound since I had a dead quiet early morning time. Listening spl was 55db avg with 77db peaks. The wave form was flat from 100hz to 1khz the median listening range. With peaks from around 200hz to 500hz right in the prime listening zone. Thereâs a slight rolloff from 1khz to 2khz then more rolloff from 2khz on up.
This waveform is from a TV output. You can see, all the Audio information is presented. With proper post-processing you should be able to get great sound from this car. If you know how to adjust your equipment properly. Thereâs subsonics below 100hz. Low b on a 5 sting bass is 31hz, you canât get much lower than that. And the low information is there. Thereâs plenty of highs in the waveform as well.
But itâs just like any other sound waveform. If you push the volume too far youâll push the mids and the mid-lows into clipping and thatâs whatâs called âdistortionâ. So unless a little limiting (which is not the same as) or compression is applied the sound is going to be distorted.
Some sliders to turn down annoying sounds like the transmission, or give us a fully adjustable regular transmission. We definitely need the ability to tweak different sounds in game.
Have you tried turning down the SFX slider to see if that changes the transmission sound levels? Just a thought.
And there is a slider for impacts sound levels so the sounds of collisions should be able to be turned down or off.
Word of advice, donât converse with that person.
They think the Dolby App has an effect on Dolby Visions quality and Dolby Atmos through a receivers audio quality.
Waste of time.
All Iâll say is this. Itâs a good soundfile however they got it, whether they created it using a synthesizer, or recorded it. What I donât get is how they CAN get a flat plane V8 right, but yet the Mclarens are all off?
The Mclaren V8 was right in Forza 7, and 7 was going through a rebuild phase with their new hybrid re-recording into granular synthesizer method.
We need transparency as to what the heck the sound team is doing with the sounds in this game. I might be being conservative when I say this but over 60% of how a mix turns out is based off of mic placement, and selection. Instrumentation makes up a good chunk of the rest of that, EQ and Compression make up only 5% of the pie.
The engineers that make the instruments (car engines in this case) are not at fault. EQ and compression can only do so much. It has to be on the engineers to record or design good audio.
We need to know whatâs going on with the entire recording/design process. Thatâs the majority of the problems we have. FM4 was like 90% correct in the sound department. They shared a bit on how they recorded sounds since it was so groundbreaking.
Now the sound team just stated that this is the best sounding Forza ever, and went silent after release.
FM5 and 6 were just fine. FM6âs Porsche 962c felt like it was being played from an 8-track, Iâd get goosebumps listening to that car pull in 4th and 5th gear.
I really wish theyâd just bring back FM5 and 6âs audio like they did with the P1, and FH4âs Ferrari 512S sound (even though both where/are wrong).
I know theyâre trying to fix the sound, but it feels like the sound department doesnât care for mechanical soul like they did 8 years ago.
I think transparency would be nice, an explanation as to why some of the sounds are just place holders. What is the capturing/creative process? Let us in on whatâs going on with the bad sound files weâre hearing and why theyâre not realistic.
Edit: Sorry for the rant, but yes you can get a good sound out of it in post processing. Limiting might be needed to bring out the floor and prevent distortion. Bringing it back to what I said, the original sound file (I have no clue if this was captured or created which is good) is good. I wish every car was correct like this one.
Tell ya one thing I would love control over. Brightness. Yâall mix these too bright. Especially in cockpit cam. Some of the newer cars have ok enough cockpit mixes, but most just make me want to dig my eardrums out.
Maybe give us 2 sliders for engine weight and overtone. Itâd be like separating the LFE from the rest of the eq spectrum but only for the engine sounds.
Really jus follow what PG is doing with FH5. Their cockpit mixes are SO close.
I literally said that the only change that happened to my system was that app update then DV and DA improved. Merely reporting what I saw and heard after that update rolled through. Until a dev that has worked on the thing tells me otherwise, Iâll stick to it. My rig looks and sounds better after that update. Idk what else to tell you. Would you have me believe that magic and miracles were the reason my color banding, brightness and color accuracy issues went away?
I also did not say that I was 100% sure. I said it SEEMS like and SEEMS to be. What does the meaning of the word SEEMS mean to you exactly?
Think Iâd rather not waste time with you 2. Youâre going on the blocked list too.
@CRSSQU4R3D you could just choose to ignore us and let us talk sound. Thereâs much more stuff you and I agree on. No sense getting all twisted up over one little difference of opinion. Just move on.
The problem remains the same however. While the 430 sounds good on my TV native speakers most donât sound good at all. Itâs not hard to get a good sound file if you know how to work the mixing console. But if you donât have a decent sound to start with, you usually donât have a decent sound to finish with. A good recording engineer is going to put down a flat sound file. But if the band canât play (in this case T10) the music (engine sounds) wonât sell records. Analogy to the game sounding like junk.
@MikeJoe1990 , Just for fun, and because of some other sports event that happened today. Not really off topic because it is sound related. This is the mixer console that was used, two units in tandem, for mixing the FoH mix for the Superbowl halftime show.
Digico 338 128 channel digital mixer
Thatâs a loooot of channels to keep up with! I read somewhere that they used Dante network to get everything communicating with each other. We use Dante at my church!
Dante is cool, Iâve got my Dante certification. The Superbowl used Dante Wireless systems. There was another mixer used for Monitors and the Game mixer used the stadium house mixer.
My first time on a big mixer was a 128 channel analog board at the Seattle Kingdome. The lead engineer explained to me, the largest mixer youâll ever encounter is one channel. Just mixer one channel and youâve got it down. Then all the rest are just connected together. Board size never intimidated me again.
Thatâs so cool, I did not use my degree in Audio partially because I was so fit at the time it just didnât make sense. My regimen was strict and that made getting along with people tough. If I never had a strict regimen I never would have learned as much as I did, or made the decisions I made. Teachers loved me, and sound guys are always good conversation, but the way all of this came to be just didnât see me fitting in. Iâm a stand up guy, so sitting for 50+ hours a week training my ears never wasnât something I wanted to do while I can still move.
I have a degree and they had ONE course on training your ears that taught how to listen for details in pop music. It just laid the ground work for training your ears using GEQ. My final project was basically mix and mastered last minute by me and my teacher. I was then thrown into the music business with just a foot in the door which I took out because I was so in shape at the time. I didnât know what I was getting myself into.
That being said, you have to be on your toes with cues running FOH. Iâve ran FOH with a supervisor with trained ears many times, and I can only imagine what running 128+ channels for 3 hours is like. Doing the mix shouldnât be hard, but keeping track of 128 faders is no easy task. Of course Iâm probably making it out to be more than it is because you have the technical director looking over everything. Still, live sound engineering requires a sense of direction that I didnât have my first year interning. Maybe thatâs why it seems like 128+ is a bit much, but ehhh⌠Iâd love to know how much they get paid.
Why didnât you make to switch to studio engineering? I had a really good teacher and an old friend who both started their studio careers as live sound guys. The guy who installed and calibrated the sound systems at my church also does studio engineering.
On my laptop I most of the time use my 7.1 headphones. I use some Corsair iCue standard settings. Iâm not sure what they are, except that the program says its 7.1. Game sounds amazing nonetheless so im not complaining.
My laptop speakers are just stereo.
I use the chase near camera. Would love to use the hood cam, but itâs just a bit too cramped for my taste. I like the âoverviewâ of the chase cam.
Tyres and Engine are most important to me. Altough other playersâ cars and environment is also a factor I definetly like and need. Currently I like the âmixâ of sounds. Maybe the tyres screeching should be slightly louder.
A bit off topic but probably worth noting that you can change the field of view for each camera mode. You might be able to get good camera how you like it
Correct, however, with a 16:10 display it will look completely bonkers the more you stretch the FOV!
Yeah fair enough,.I play at 21:9 on my PC so I get you
Regarding point 5. Why is there no option for âplayer exhaustâ?
Im sorry but after reading your responses this has to be said.
Nobody who knows about quality audio is paying 25k for anything from Bose.
âŚsame goes for Denon. Nobody in their right minds should pay 6500 for anything from Denon.
