I start a race series and have to buy a new car. I find one I like and want to race, great. I go to upgrade it and make it into the car I want and I can’t. It’s all blocked. So what do I have to do? Race.
I race and race and can finally put like 2 upgrades on the car. I race some more and I get another upgrade, and so on.
Eventually I I’ve raced enough I can finally start making the car remotely resemble the car I wanted to race. One problem. The series is over and I have to start another. Which means buying another car and starting this painful process all over again.
In no way, at any point do I feel like I’ve accomplished anything as was suggested in whatever Forza showcase.
I’m forced to spend my time racing a car I don’t like because I can’t upgrade it to what I WOULD like. At this rate I won’t be playing again until this is changed.
You want people to feel a sense of accomplishment, stop paying out so much money per race and make upgrades purchasable with the cash we make from racing…like in real life.
Completely agree with this. One of the most fun things about Forza was buying a car and banging a load of upgrades onto it to turn it into an absolute track monster. I don’t want to race that car in stock form for 3-4 hours before i can even upgrade it to the car i invisioned and want to race!
Absolutely stupid system that doesn’t accommodate for people that just like building their own race cars!
Real race teams dont buy a car from the factory and drive it for 1000 miles stock. they buy a car, rip it apart and turn it into what they want it to be… exactly what we love doing as Forza players!
Such a shame… the physics, handling, sounds, visuals are all fantastic… just completely ruined by this idiotic grind to upgrade a car
A decent compromise would be to offer CarXP as well as cash for rewards. Lower every upgrade option to level 20 or lower. Its obvious by now that in game credits are essentially worthless.

Such a disappointing twist on a potentially incredible game… played since FM2, had every single FM & FH since… i’ll be back to FM7 until this “progression” gets sorted… i don’t have hours and hours of time to game, lucky if i get a few hours after work and maybe 3/4 hours at a weekend… i don’t want to spent the entirety of that time grinding to unlock a bodykit…
Yeah i totally agree, this system needs getting rid of, i don’t even think tweaking it would help, there are so many cars I’d love to do builds with but i cant because or this is stupid system. This is not what the community asked for when they said they wanted progression, to be honest i would have been happy with a motorsport 4 style system. Ive been playing the game since last Friday and yeah the upgrade system is not for me.
This doesn’t look like a compromise to me. It would still be the exact same system with fundamentally the exact same problems. You might have to grind less, but you still would have to grind.
I assume this is to slow down cheaters.
But the system really is annoying. Especially when considering most events end, before you get the cars leveled up enough to fully build it up. And only chance to do so are “open series”.
That indeed sux.
When having a look at the mulitplayer that really is a true killer. Most racers live from custom built cars tuned and personalized to the last screw. Taking that away will kill the online-game pretty quickly. A true design-disaster.
I feel its good for single player as it makes you get to know the car and its flaws and fine tune/upgrade but I am totally with you on the multiplayer side of things I would even be happy if they went down the route that nfs took and had a completely separate garage for multiplayer, then for the multiplayer portion they could revert to the old ways of upgrading. The “carPG” hasn’t really affected me yet as I’ve only been playing single player and personally I’ve been enjoying the way upgrades work but again I haven’t touched multiplayer and soon as I do my opinion will no doubt change
“Freedom” should have been the mantra of the previous series.
Did they forget that FM7 also introduced a system that prevented people from buying cars freely just to let them use their playing time, which was heavily criticized?
They made the best food, but I hope you notice at the end they sprinkled spices that ruined everything.
Having to grind for hours just to be able to fully upgrade each car, even in single player, ruins the fun for me. I enjoy trying different cars and different tunes. This horribly annoying system forces you to essentially pick one car in a class. At this point, I’m sad to say this is the first Forza game I’m sorry I bought. I’ve played every Forza game (since FM2) extensively, with 85% - 100% achievements, so the “if you don’t like racing, you shouldn’t have bought it” argument doesn’t apply. I love racing, painting, tuning, etc. I don’t like grinding for things I shouldn’t have to.
Who came up with this nonsense why make a normal racing game so grindy? Why turn it into some sort of weird car RPG where we have to unlock car parts by levelling up cars?
Make it a classical Forza Motorsport without all this nonsense not this weird “Car Hero” RPG thing whatever you call it.
Or make it optional for the ppl that want to waste 8 hours on a single car to max it out. But don’t force it on EVERYBODY. Ppl want to play games to relax, not to grind CAR LEVELS.
they don’t need to get rid of it, just adjust the numbers a bit so its not so grindy. i have 5 cars at 50 right now and its taken me between 2 hours and 40 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes for each car.
if they could get those numbers closer to an hour or so i don’t think it would be that bad.
Yeah I could see how this could be frustrating for some people. I have just beenplaying in lobbies where the cars are on a level playing field, so it was painless to level up, but if there are lobbies where the “meta” cars need carzy upgrades to be competetive, I can understand the frustration that would come with that.
Also, Turn 10 where are my prototype races? All these amazing classic racers and no one can race them???
The whole game is based around this lol
Might as well tell them to make a 130 gig patch.
It’s done and dusted for better or worse.
Without it, there is no sense of progression at all.
