Releasing gas while shifting?

So while I watch forza 6 racers on twitch I noticed some release the gas when they shift then press on it again with a controller. I like to race in leagues and I’m always trying to improve my technique to be quicker. When I shift I don’t release the gas button, I hold it and shift at the same time with controller. But is it better to release then shift? I don’t know if that will slow me down or not.

Do You Use Manual With Clutch?

Yes

It is just preference. In Forza you can just powershift. You can doe either depending on your personal preference.

Most of the time I shift while holding the gas down, but I’ll either lift off the throttle completely or a tiny bit if I’m shifting in the middle of a bend or a turn. The 3rd turn at Hockenheim is an example of when I’ll do this.

Ditto on that, If I feel like it can hold the power I’ll keep wot but if I know it won’t I’ll smooth it out. Rev matching makes down shifts smoother too, I didn’t realize I did it till a friend pointed it out one day.

What is rev matching when downshifting? I’ve heard of it a few times, but I don’t know if I naturally do it. Thanks.

It depends on the car for me, but most of the time, when upshifting, I’ll hold the throttle down. I almost always let off the throttle and burp it when downshifting, to rev match, even though it is not needed in this game. I do this technique on my Elite controller, and standard controller (if I use it now). On my Logitech G920, I always let off and use the clutch pedal, just for the realism factor. I try to make it seem as real as possible when using my wheel.

But as for which way is faster, it seems that not lifting when shifting is faster, but it also depends on the tune and car build too. If the build has a race clutch in it, lifting and not lifting have the same shift times, in my experience. Maybe I’m wrong on that, but this is what I’ve seen. Using race clutch, I can set the exact same times, down to the thousandth of a second using both techniques, in the same car. So it is basically preference when it’s a full race build.

Do it when coming out of a turn and the driven wheels won’t upset the car. If you don’t pull off the gas in a high powered rear wheel drive car you can end up sideways or backwards.

Yep that’s what I was going to tell him.

Other than that, there’s no need to release the gas.

Oh, i thought this thread was about someting totally different! LMOA

Powershift it’s one of the unrealistic feature in fm6. No can in real driven like this. Then it sounds horrible in my ears. I now that I’m faster with this method in lower classes. But it have nothing to do with realism.

You can drive cars like this in real life. The thing is, most people don’t because gearboxes don’t tend to tolerate it for long.

I release gas whist doing lots of things and it’s rarely well received.

I’m surprised it took this long…

Never lift. This has been covered many times and even T10 confirmed it way back in FM3.

The exception is high powered cars coming out of a corner. If you know the car will step out, lift when shifting. The result will be lost acceleration but more car control. Usually I only do this when I mess up the corner or the tune doesn’t mesh well with the track.

I alway lift off the clutch mid corner to maximize exit speed and kill wheel spin for maximum traction going down straights no need to lift off.

I’m convinced most cars pull harder through the lower shifts, first through third or fourth if you let off. Mostly noticeable with higher horsepower cars that will spin the tires if you just power through the shifts.

It takes a bit of practice to do it quickly. I could see how it would be slower if you are not quick with it.

I have never found staying on gas causing any issues at all including loss of traction.
