Rear View Mirror 3-10-14

Hey Race fans,

Despite daylight savings time, RVM is here bringing you coverage of WRC Mexico, NASCAR Kobalt 400, and more.

Read it, watch it, comment about it.

I’m looking for your comments about what to expect from next week’s kick off of Formula One and what you think of the total uselessness of Daylight Savings Time.

Happy Monday!

John

I like daylight savings time. In fact I would be happy if time was permanently DST. The hour of daylight at the end of the day is a lot better than in the morning.

I agree with you about DST, it makes no sense. I have stopped adjusting my watch for it and simply adjust the time in my head. But if an endurance race were to fall on the change day, would the race time change? I saw a stanced Hyundai Genesis on the weekend stopped at the side of the highway filling his tires, which brings me to my next point. Why stance your car, aside from individuality, as it does not help handling.
BTW are cars in Forza Horizon cambered when fitted with race suspension?

And if you happen to be nice enough, could I have a unicorn

Thanks again for another RVM!

Firstly, I on occasion find daylight savings time to be detrimental in one very important aspect. I can’t have a nice long bonfire with my friends if it doesn’t get dark until 10PM. What am I supposed to do with that? My girlfriend is from Arizona (where they don’t observe Daylight Savings) and she can’t get her head around it. “Sunshine at 9PM is an abomination” (her words). Also, just like in ancient Sumerian times, beer has saved the day once again, and being a fan of a good ale, I can say that putting Corona in a radiator is probably the best use for it. The flip in the Ford was fantastic, when you’re driving right on the line, on the razor’s edge…sometimes interesting things happen. Sometimes they’re World Records. Sometimes they’re giant, car-mangling catastrophes. It’s all part of the fun, and part of the crazy adrenaline shock that is motorsport.

I actually like it when it is light outside longer, I just don’t like the adjustment in time. Gaining the extra hour in the fall is nice and all but losing it in the spring is not worth it. Besides DST was designed to help conserve energy and has since been proven to not be effective. I think getting rid of it is long overdue.

It’s always wise to watch out for an underdog. They usually have more to prove and and less fear.
Regarding daylights saving time, I don’t like it and it really doesn’t make sense. The Sun will come up and go down regardless of what “time” it is.

I never like DST mainly because we lose an hour and it’s darker in the morning, plus having to adjust every clock in the house and the car clocks, thank goodness for phones with automatic DST settings! The Vegas race on Sunday was really great, and the way Dale performed toward the end, holding off Brad, was enough to keep me in good spirits; Even though I knew Dale might run out of fuel during the final laps and Brad had enough because he stopped later than Jr., I’m still proud that he came in second and is still leading in points; Not bad for a birthday gift on the same day, despite having a very terrible and depressing year so far.

Also, in regards to who will win rookie of the year in the NSCS: it will probably be Dillon!

Once again, another great RVM. Personally, I can’t stand DST. I wish we could just stay on regular time like AZ does. They’ve got it right. Even if we were no to observe DST, there would still be daylight in the summer months until almost 9. Isn’t that enough?

As for the Nascar race at Las Vegas, I hate the fact Brad won. I can’t stand him. Great job by the 88 team making the call to stay out and try to make it to end. Just a half a lap short. But overall, a good race. I think Dillon is doing good for his rookie season. People can’t think he’ll come into the Cup series and have the wonderful success he had in the Truck and Nationwide series. It’ll take him a while longer to get used to the Cup cars, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make the Chase his first year. Can’t wait for next week at Bristol though! Go #24!

First subject, daylight savings time…here in Las Vegas in the winter when the days get shorter it gets dark at 4-5 oclock, a bit early for my liking. I love the long late days of summer! Coverage of the Mexican Rally was spectacular. Running flat out on those narrow dirt roads would probably do me in. As a resident of Henderson, I can testify that we Nevadans love Nascar and the week they come to visit is a special one. Great weather and an awesome race occured at the Speedway. Thanks for the great coverage of a super week in motorsports.

Clocks don’t go forward in the UK till the end of March. Have to say I prefer the extra hour of light in the evening rather than the morning. Would prefer we stayed on DST/BST permanently.

I was wondering what Kubica was up to - seems a real shame he probably won’t be making it back to F1. Talking about F1 - really looking forward to this weekend, the new regs should give a big shake-up. Will be interesting to see how quickly Red Bull catch up as they seem to be behind everyone at the moment in development. Could be a smoke screen…

(and thanks for the unicorn on last weeks thread!)

So we’ve moved the clocks ahead an hour, back to where they should have stayed in the first place. Now would someone please get rid of the DST garbage and keep it the way it is like they do in Arizona! I do prefer light later in the day but we’d have already had that if the time was left alone in the first place! I especially hate the time change in the fall here in Wisconsin because it’s dark by 4:30 in the afternoon once we get to December.

I’m totally down with doing away with DST. Of course i’m totally biased. I work every Sat and Sun. So i just lost an hour of my usual 12 hr shift saturday night. Next time the time changes i get to work 13 hours instead of 12. 12 is long enough.

Austin Dillon will probably not win his first year out. Well maybe a restrictor plate race will be his only shot. I do believe he’ll have a stronger rookie season than Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Danica Patrick last year. this season he’ll probably finish higher than both of them.

I feel the same in connection with the DST, in my opinion its thing that we really don’t need.

I watched some videos from the Mexican WRC, I think it was a good race at all.

John, thank you for the RVM.

I guess beer has more uses than I thought. Not only can it slow you down, but it can keep you going, too haha. Thats quite a risk Earnhart took, surprised he still got second! Another great read. Thanks for sending my friend a unicorn, she was very happy!

I agree with Sat Nite Ed; I prefer to have the extra hour of daylight at the end of the day, so you can get some chores or a bike ride in after work.

rally we need more rally!!

Day light saving is a good thing when you have a lot of farm land so the good old tractor drivers have some sun to play in  Us in the uk don’t have to change to the 30th of march so we still in the dark at the mo.

the one out of a hundred that messes up car meet should be the ones that are kicked out i have been to many where the police and shut it down all because some beep beep beeeeppp watched fast & furious night before and thinks that what real life is like.

I am also of the belief that Daylight Savings Time is a good thing. I have an hour drive to/from work, so right now I am driving in the dark part of the way to work, but it sure is nice to get home and have time to go for a decent walk or work outside before the night comes (and I jump on the Xboxes).

I will be interested to see how F1 plays out with all of the new engine changes. For the first time in a while, it looks like Red Bull may be playing catch up. Radio Le Mans has a good podcast out there previewing the 2014 F1 season. A lot of good info on the technical aspects.

As for Sebring, it is one of my favorite weekends of the year, and I am looking forward to attending my third-straight 12 Hour. It is also the first time I will get to go on Friday to the Continental race and all of the Friday activities. Anyone else heading down there?

I rather enjoy Daylight Savings as it means longer days and warmer temperatures are on the way and the end to cold and snow! As for F1 starting this weekend, I’m really excited as it is a complete toss up with the new engine regulations. While I am a Red Bull fan, the lack of reliability during the off season testing is a bit worrying. That said, I think that the early season races will be Mercedes’ to lose and I believe that Williams will be surprisingly strong the first few races before the first season upgrades start to appear.
