Really getting upset that I paid extra for this

Do not misunderstand me, the game itself is fantastic as usual. If it were working I could see what it will be. But this launch has not been worth the extra money whatsoever.

I spent the first 8 hours troubleshooting how to get the game to stop crashing. Played the intro about 5 times before making it through.

Now that I can play, that’s fantastic, except I’m getting server disconnects every 5 minutes. That means I can’t even properly work on skill chains or enjoy driving because my car will stop dead in the tracks and I’ll lose my skill points.

The weekly festival things aren’t working, at least the speed trap I know isn’t. I don’t know why FH5 is making you use certain cars for the seasonal things that sucks. And it incredibly sucks that despite not doing it in FH4, now there’s a whole bunch of mandatory online play stuff again. That’s how festivals were at first in FH4 but it was changed thankfully. So you’d always get the new car at 50% and not have to play PvP. Anyhow, I used the BAC Mono with a tune that allowed me to hit the seasonal speed trap at 220mph. Seasonal objective is 195. But when I go through it says “1mph more to hit seasonal objective”.

The fast travel system, which is absolutely the worst of any game I’ve played, sucks so bad. But the worst part is I paid for the treasure map to lower my personal hatred of this activity, and it’s not active. Whether it’s on purpose or not, not sure, but it’s ridiculous as now I’m going to have to look at a picture someone put up on Reddit to get them all. What a great way to spend my early access. That might be on me, and $8,000 per fast travel might not be a lot to others, but it is to me. Especially when I can’t even fast travel to where I want which is the main issue. Only at festival spots.

The textures are some of the worst I’ve ever seen and I cannot understand why or how. FH4, they looked great. But when you get close to stuff in this game it is so blurry. From buildings, to trees, to barns… all of it. And it looks really bad.

I’m sorry for being negative but this just wasn’t worth it. I’m normally happy to pay extra for this franchise, but this time I’m not getting anywhere close to what I paid back in enjoyment or quality. I better not miss the first forzathon cars on offer that I should have had extra time to get.

Fast Travel

Just as tips to help. Have you bought the house (Buenas Vistas) on the West Coast? That unlocks FT to any road not just the festival sites, also do drive to locations. I’ve unlocked about half the FT boards as they popped up on the map as I was driving.

Everything else

Yeah I pretty much agree with you, it’s been an awful launch. Im on Xbox so I can least play, but there is no traffic at all. Must be my own private country lol. Friend of mine on PC keeps crashing at launch, he doesn’t have hours to make it work and to be fair why should he. All his other games work fine.

Honestly they should never even have put the Horizon Games on PC, Ive played Forza since Forza 2 and was always on xbox until FH4 and its been an absolute nightmare ever since on PC. Even just getting the game to run in the first place is VERY difficult and above the heads of 90 percent of PC users. They must use clean install windows systems with ZERO programs or software installed for their testing because how else would it be that you need to disable all your programs and antivirus for it even have a shot of working. I thought with all the issues in FH4 that such a massive game would have the bugs sorted out for FH5 but its the EXACT same problems literally no different. Same disconnects, same probems with 3rd party antivirus and programs and thats not to mention the MASSIVE list of known issues. It should have been an indication to me from the huge list of FH4 known issues that was still huge at the end of its life that it would be the same here but I had false hope. Its reminding me of the NBA 2k franchise on PC where it just flat out refuses to optimize the game or fix the known and widespread problems for PC players that exist year after year. Yet we all still keep buying the games anyways and they know we will too and sure enough here we are complaining about the $150 dollars we spent when we should have known better. Forza has been my favorite game for years, I am as loyal as it gets according to forza hub I have over 800 days played since 2009 but FH4 and now the early impressions of FH5 have been put an extreme sour taste in my mouth.

Technically I have played every single Forza in the franchise. 1 Xbox with all of my info was lost in Iraq 2007-2008, another was lost in Germany in 2009-2011, and a name change on my account was in 2010, so a lot of information has been lost. So my times and dates aren’t exact, but needless to say, I have been playing it for too long.

I remember the first time they tried porting in PC players into Forza, it was a disaster. The crashes, disconnects, voice chat problems, convoy problems, ect and that was at the tail end of FH3. Was it a neat idea? Sure, people WANTED to play on the PC. And then FH4 came out. Yeah it had issues and ticked a lot of people off with this live chat crap and not being able to hear a human when you entered a lobby. Instead of calling out to all racers, dragsters, drifters, car meets, we were left with a word or two that was emotionless and craptacular. It was also riddles with disconnects, and crashes for every system mind you. And now we have FH5. Is it the same? Pretty much but that’s how their launches have been.

But the interesting thing is, I booted up FH5 on my XBone X and only had the network issues and missing items. I’ve booted up FH5 on my laptop, and had the same exact things besides a few small crashes in the first 4 hours of the US launch, and nothing after that. I did not need to change anything nor disable anything. Part of the reason is because of how unstable Anti-Virus programs are and the majority of it being useless. I run 1 security application on my computer and it does better than 95% of the stuff out there and is free. I am also not computer illiterate as I have been an IT Professional for 15+ years. If I had to guess what could be a cause of an issue is the different installers for different places. IE Steam being different than the MS Store. Either that, or something might have gotten corrupted and did not get fixed correctly during file checking when the game initiates.

It sucks to see a lot of people having problems and many people will call me lucky for not having that many issues. But there are 2 ways to try and fix a lot of the problems. The first is to obviously uninstall and reinstall. But the catch is, 75% of people do not REBOOT the computer after an install. This is a big problem because a reboot is required to remove certain files in it’s cache and other locations. So if you have a corrupted file, uninstalled the game and then reinstalled right after, chances are you will run into an issue yet again. So always reboot your system after an uninstall. The 2nd way, is to Uninstall the game and Delete the installation files you have, and then reboot. Once you are back up, go back to your source and redownload their installation file. There could have been a unseen change or error in the last file so redownloading it can have an impact. Once it’s done, restart the computer.

If either one of these does not help, then you have a pretty good case that it isn’t a problem with your machine or the game files and that would be 100% on the game company. I’ll admit that I was hesitant about getting the Premium Edition as well because my new job has me working 12 hour shifts on Friday and Saturday, which means yes, I am still at work for another 2+ hours before I can even play again. I hope they see a majority of these problems and get them fixed as soon as possible, which they generally do, or break something else in the meantime.

Wow. Going to count myself lucky, then. I do see some blurry textures up close, like on passing trains if I try to take a photo, but I by no means have a “clean” Windows 10 system, and the only thing I had to do was update my video driver for my RTX 2080 Super. To be fair, the GeForce experience app told me it was available over a week ago, I just never prioritized it. Other than the online disconnects everyone is getting, the game has been ok for me. I even participated in an arcade event (we didn’t win because there were only two of us, but we lost by only a sliver).

I don’t use 3rd party AV… I use the built in Windows Defender. I also use a firewall called NetLimiter.

My machine is almost two years old, but knock on wood it seems to be handling the game just fine for the most part.

There is currently a texture bug that is affecting some GPUs (not all) where Environmental Textures fail to load in properly Between Low & Ultra settings, setting ‘Environmental Texture Quality’ to Extreme seems to fix this issue at a high performance cost and I haven’t found a different workaround. Just something that we have to wait to be patched up.

The GPUs that I saw were affected by this are the RTX 2070/2070 Super and the GTX 1070 (If I remember correctly).

I made a post about it here, if you can post a quick reply with what system specs you are using and give it a like so the issue is highlighted, as its not mentioned on the ‘FH5 Known Issues’ list.
