Race suspension vs. Sport suspension

Since this topic was mentioned in another thread, I thought I’d just make a new thread for and see how everyone feels about using one vs. the other. I just started getting into tuning in Forza 5 and have been working on getting better at building first and foremost and then working on my tuning skills. That being said, I’ve toyed around with only using sport suspension on some of my builds and come to realize that I’m pretty much as fast as I am using the same car and same pi with race suspension. So if I can save a few PI points by using sport suspension, then I’ll do that. Not to mention it saves a little time in the tuning department as well.

Others thoughts?

There was a guy in FM3 who always used stock, street or sport suspensions. He then had one of the fastest drivers around put them at #1. He also beat me in a few tuning comps. So yeah, it may be the fastest way to go at times.

I’ve built a handful of cars using pre-baked suspension due to comp restrictions or class dropping. Clearly race suspension gives you a lot more control over the chassis set-up, so iIt’s the one thing I almost never pass up. Having said that, if the car runs faster for you without it then it’s a no brainer. You should always go with what’s fastest.

What these guys said… choice is urs…

It really depends on your tuning ability and what class you’re building for.

I mean it’s not recommended to use a race transmission, but I still do because I know how to tune gears.

FYI: You are almost guaranteed to have problems when you hit rumble strips while riding on sport springs in FM6.

Depends on the car I’m running but I’ll rarely run sport springs… I’ve started using sport brakes more because they actually drop PI over stock in most cases and perform well enough for most tracks and most cars.
With gearboxes ranging from stock to race depending on power and stock ratios.

If it work for you then run what you like I know someone on FM4 who ran exclusively street springs, stock tyres, stock breaks and just used roll bars and tyre pressures to balance the car. He was seriously quick until it got real tight when the lack of grip started to take effect.

Just depends on yourself…

I’m about to do this as well on my Alfa 4C. Race suspension just gives you the full range to play with. Sport suspension provides car good support. If I’m going to equip race suspension then soften it, might as well go with Sport and save some time & PI.

Keep an eye on the ERS Tuning Comp thread. PI was equal but the race suspension made it weigh 6lb more. It wasn’t really “broke” as long as I had adjustable roll bars. I wasn’t talented enough to “fix it” so I didn’t and rolled the dice. I’m fairly confident that one of the other tuners would have been able to extract enough extra grip or predictability out the race suspension to overcome 6lb. I’m adding it to my bag of tricks, especially when it saves PI.
