I’ve just got Forza 7 after a long break from the series and am really enjoying it.
However, I’ve got a really basic query regarding tuning when playing online.
Some of the other players seem so much quicker off the line and have greater acceleration than myself even though they have the same car.
I presume this is partly due to their skill level but also I think it’s because they’ve done some tuning on gears etc.
However, if I go to tune my car and put a sports drive train in it (so that I can tweak gears etc.) I get told that it will push the car over the class limit so I wouldn’t be able to race with it.
I can’t seem to tweak anything on gears or suspension without upgrades though?
So my question is, can I add parts to my car and still race online with it?
Or maybe I don’t need to do this to tweak gears and I’m missing something obvious?
As an example I’m talking about low end cars such as Golf R, Vauxhall Corsa, Hyundai Velostar N etc. which are already at the top of their class (499 or 500).
So any mod pushes them over the 500 mark which means I can’t use the mods. So it seems pointless is getting the mods in the first place.
There are some upgrades that can bring the PI down, mainly roll cage and heavier rims and / or bigger rim size. Try those to see if you can create the room to fit in sport transmission.
Now please note that you only need sport or race transmission in some instances, most of the time the PI hit is too high and you’re better off with stock transmission.
Also download top tunes from leaderboard and try to rebuilt them.
For sure you can put in upgrades, as long as you stay within the PI (for instance A700 or B600).
Perhaps you can create a longer 1st gear to prevent wheelspin and keep gear longer.
Also you can tinker with other tyres for better grip, change your ARB/ spring setup, etc etc.
To bring down the PI level, you could install the roll cage (adds weight, but improves stiffness). Also you can install wings, which will cost you top speed but increase handling.
Finally you can try to install bigger and heavier rims to bring down the pi level. That way you can install other stuff to bring it back to for instance C500
The cars are homologated, which means pre tuned, to be on about the same level performance wise. You have the possibility to remove said tune in the tuning menu, which should make PI available for you to put new parts in the car. The stock PI varies from car to car obviously, so in some cars you will be able to change a lot while others are already at or close to the restrictions, so very little can be changed on the car. Note that every class has not only PI restrictions, but also for tires and hp
It’s possible that the difference you’re seeing has nothing to do with the car or tune itself, you using a manual with a clutch? If not, that’s probably why. You’re almost always going to see better acceleration and shift times using a manual w/ clutch over manual, and both are usually significantly quicker than auto.
What I do with a standard tune on rear wheel drive car is make the front tires as skinny as possible. That will lower the PI enough to use a beter transmission, as well as brakes clutch etc. Use a splitter and set the splitter high enough to get the grip back that you lost. You can also increase the front camber.
These cars are FWD, they don’t do as well as RWD in a straight. You can drivetrain swap, which will drop the PI quite a bit, or you might want to switch to another car.
Before you start tinkering with every car you own and possibly ending up in a world of frustration you need to identify if it’s just you. Using just the right amount of gas getting off the grid and shifting at the optimum time accounts for a lot. During the race corner exit speed also affects your performance on the straight as does the gear you use through a corner. Not saying you don’t drive well but it’s surprising what experienced players are able to do in exactly the same car.
