Before I chalk up my recent experience to dealing with a jerk, I want to honestly ask if I did anything wrong, seeing as how I’m new to this multiplayer thing:
Racing at Bathurst. I’m in the Dodge Challenger. I’m in second and just coming around the last mountain turn into the straight. Dude whacks me. I basically say “Dude, what the (heck?)” Next thing I know, I’m getting a tirade in Scottish which, to be honest, I didn’t understand most of it. Caught something about I how I sat their silently like (something).
I hadn’t hit a single person that race. And, I wasn’t maneuvering to block. I know Bathurst isn’t gifted with a lot of areas to pass. Was he complaining that I didn’t move to the side and let him pass? Am I supposed to? Again, I wasn’t moving to block anybody, I was just racing.
Yeah, I blocked the dude (as in, blocked from playing in future lobbies with me). But, how am I supposed to know when to give way? It’s hard enough to understand what people are saying half of the time. Half of the time all I hear is demented robot.
That one race I had at Indy was multiplayer at its best. This one was the kind that makes you want to say “the heck” with everybody and stick with rivals the rest of the way though.
I don’t think you did anything wrong, but without seeing it hard to say. It is his job to pass you, not yours to let him by. On that note tho if you clearly are going to lose the position, give it up dont force a wreck or anything like that.
Thing is, we were just about to enter the long straightaway after the mountain. I’m thinking he had ample opportunity to pass me there, if he could.
The Dodge Challenger isn’t a small car, I get that. But, I don’t think it is Hummer or SUV category. I picked it because, quite frankly, I know it. The previous race I went with the Honda Civic and happily accepted last place because I didn’t know the car and the proper gear ratio.
I hate that person. Not them the individual, but anyone who races like that. I see it all the time and find it infuriating. If someone is better than you and is going to pass you cleanly, why do you feel the need to take them out? I will never understand that mentality. I find them to be just as bad, if not worse. as the wreckers. At least the wreckers know that they suck…
Every time I go for a pass on a known beginner (low level) I know there is a good chance they’ll block or side swipe my car. I usually test the waters first by swerving towards an opening and see if they repeatedly block. Most blockers will wreck you when pull up along side them or bump you off the road at the next corner.
Don’t be so sure it is only the beginners doing it. I’ve been wiped out in many situations by people over 500 level and their names at the top of the leader boards. I think it’s their ego that won’t let someone pass them when they think they should be the fastest on the track. In a 6 or more lap race, consistency wins over fastest lap sometimes.
Oh I didn’t say it was only beginners. From my experience they’re the ones doing it the most either from inexperience or frustration of not being competitive.
Not braking at corners, driving the wrong way on the track, blocking traffic, side swiping passing cars and so on.
Blocking I can deal with.
Being hit in the rear because I’m not fast enough I can deal with.
But catching up with somebody over 2 laps, and then doing a clear pass, and then getting bumped off the road…
LOL, I hadn’t gotten that far on the straight. It was just at the end of the final mountain turn and I was starting to gear up for the straight and then I got smacked. Probably didn’t help that I didn’t do that turn my best, otherwise I may have gotten away from him.
As long as you keep your racing line, its the opponent responsability to pass you cleanly.
At the beginning of the video and at around 0:45, I could have “pushed” to pass him (Maybe would have been more aggressive at the beginning of the race, but it was the last lap), but I just took my time and went for a clean pass.
Its only a game and there is nothing at stake if you crash, but sometime I wish people would act like so.
now I want to drive an rx7…lol
for some people behaving properly is impossible…however when things like this happen I don’t even get really angry (doesn’t happen often luckily), next race will be better
Absolutely. I haven’t had time over the winter to refine my race craft but I tried a lobby on Sunday and got soundly, purposely punted straight away. Couldn’t believe it. Did two races and gave up. Finished last in both (but finished - I hate it when people quit). Anyway, I just blocked the GT and reported it as we have been advised to do. Nothing else you can do. I did not talk to to jerks. In fact I took my headphones off. Oh well, still love the game…just wish I could find like minded players to race who will race clean. Being an open wheeler by training I’m not much for contact of any kind and I’m not likely to change at this age. Send me a FR - I will race you clean.
The real kicker is that the point where the video jumps is because I’d initially recorded the passing move because I wanted to watch it back. You can also see I was looking back to make sure I left him enough space.
