Patience is a virtue

Folks,

I’ve been a Forza Motorsport fan since the first game, I’ve been playing online forever. I’ve never seen the lobbies as BAD as they are now. Don’t get me wrong, every once in a while you’ll find a clean lobby by accident, but those are few and far in between. I’ve been told “the lower classes are cleaner”, yeah…right.

The common problem I’m noticing in WHATEVER class I’m in is that everyone thinks they can win the race right off the start…1st corner carnage. Sometimes, we don’t even wait until the first corner. I must admit that sometimes we all make it clean through the 1st corner…only to wreck in the 2nd and/or 3rd corners.

What it all boils down to, is that people are not patient. I can’t begin to tell you how many times it happens when I get wrecked back to the rear of the pack only to come back through the field to finish top 3 or top 5.

If you think you are faster than others around you, if you think your car is the best in the lobby, prove it! Don’t go all out off the line and dive bomb people in the first corner.

Learn how to run so called “leader board” cars first, before to take them into hoppers.

If you see someone is slowing you down, find a clean way around them. Give it a corner or two. If you’re in front, and someone is considerably faster, pull over to the side and let them go, get behind them and see if you can keep up(you might just get faster!). There’s no sense in slowing you both down.

I’m by no means a “leaderboard fast” driver, but I’m not at the bottom of the boards either. I’m just writing this post out of frustration, and hopefully I’m not alone in my opinion(s).

After running a few races in the beginner ghost C class all it took was one race in the regular hoppers to decide that it isn’t worth the effort. Like you, I’m not the fastest out there, but I have posted some times in the top 1-2% on some tracks so I joined a D class race with one of the cars that I have run decently and then proceeded to get punted repeatedly some idiot driving a Willys. I was able to pass him a couple of times as he was taking others out but every time he caught back up to me it was the same thing no matter how much I tried to give him room. I saved the replay and while there were multiple other wrecks that occurred during the race this guy was the only one who obviously was doing it on purpose. It was also apparent from his running commentary during the race announcing how he was taking others out. I would love to try more online racing but I just don’t know that it’s worth the trouble to have to “find” a lobby where I don’t have to worry about this stuff going on.

Some good tips posted already. If you’re quick enough and patient enough, you can easily make up spots while everybody else goes off-track.

Here’s 2 videos of mine which illustrate this point nicely (apologies for the shameless plug):

LOL i love the plug dude…and vids

Excellent show case, especially the second video.

Get patience and at any costs avoid car contact! Go off throttle or even brake, change your line. Often enough it will result in an advantage. Car contact will make uncontrolled slow you down and has at all unpredictable results to car stability.

Thigh right here is pretty much why I have bailed on xbl

I understand what you’re going through. Forza has gotten these derby drivers thanks to Horizon 2, so that pretty much sums up why the multiplayer is bad nowadays.

Why not run the leagues? The R class sim league has some clean racers.

Yeah FH2 killed it…also Christmas day babies who recieved the game as a gift in my opinion.

I don’t want to run leagues only because i don’t want to run just one class, I should be free to choose whatever class I want to run without having to deal with the the CENSORED.

I don’t even play online and stuff like this affecting me thanks to the drivatars. I was doing some races in single player and right at the first turn of yas marina at least 4 cars slammed into each other at full speed, didn’t hit the breaks at all. must have gotten some crashers ai’s in the system lol

yes I have aggression turned off

I agree with most of what has been said, apart from letting a faster driver past if it’s for a position, (if your down a lap get out of the way) a good driver who may be a bit slower has every right to try to stop the faster driver getting past; but may only do this with 1 defensive move (without hitting) per corner approach. I hate seeing people blocking the whole way down the straight going side to side, that’s not fair on anyone.
I love competitive clean racing and hope more people learn and do the same

I agree in THAT situation, but I’m talking about a BAC Mono not getting out of the way of a Cadillac CTS in the middle of a straight…Clearly the Mono doesn’t have the legs to hold off the Caddy

Holding your line is ok but I agree about deliberately blocking.
Having said that if a car appears rapidly in my mirrors from nowhere obviously he has speed I don’t and I will make it easy for him to continue hopefully unabated.

I have tried to explain to player’s in multiple games. That if so done is a lot faster than you PULL OVER!!! Not only can you learn something about how to be faster. But, by you trying to hold the faster guy up you are actually going slower too! So that angry pack of cars that is bearing down on you both is coming a lot faster. And the faster guy knows this too so they try to make riskier passes because you are starting to make them mad. And of course most of the time you both wreck and end up losing a lot more positions than just one.

But, move over at a good spot where you do not lose either of you of a lot of time. And if possible call it out to the other guy. If possible give them a slow corner after a long straight just let off early when you come to the braking zone. Of course they have to be trying to pass you here too. If they are not going to try it there just keep going as you were.

Great advice. I feel that there seems to be a mad panic to get to the front of the pack, at whatever cost to those around them.
This isn’t helped by short race duration, and a lack of racing etiquette.

That said, I must admit that it’s very difficult to ignore some of the blatant antics/ramming of others and I’ve quit on the first lap.

Even more reason to have qualifying and longer races, perhaps… However, after playing PCars, you could spend half an hr qualifying, 10 min warm up and still get knocked out on the first lap.
But, if you have around 15+ laps to get back into the race, it’s reachable.

If someone is approaching really fast and you know they are gonna pass I move over but many times they try to cut in your line when they clearly do not have enough speed to complete a pass and they end up wrecking the both of us. People also don’t know where to pass. Trying to pass in a chicane comes to mind or just in a clearly bad spot but they try anyway. People seem to have trouble anticipating where your car is gonna go. If you know the person needs to turn in don’t stick your car there, too late for the person being passed to move or change their line. You can’t leave nowhere for the other to go. No one is gonna pull over and stop that’s just crazy to think that. “Patience is a virtue”

I guess it’s attempting to apply racecraft to the game. Actually works well with experienced and knowledgable racers and patience certainly plays are large part within that as does spatial awareness of fellow competitors. As always there will always be brain fade and actual no brains.

Funny I came across this thread, I constantly race against drivatars that stick their nose where they don’t belong. I suppose art imitates life…

I had a race today that started out great, nice and close racing, until one jerk off (who was quicker than me in the turns) got behind me, every turn I get bumped from behind and not just the accidental tap, I mean a nice bump intent on putting me to the outside or off the track, I got tired of it so I let him by on the straight, what does he do? Spins me out. What’s worse is that this guy was level 300+ so he wasn’t a noob or wrecker.

Another race same thing, I was in 3rd place at Watkin’s Glen and it was a very close race so far with 2nd and 1st being only 2-400 ft ahead, that was until speedy-McGee showed up, got past me just fine, but over the course of the next lap knocked out both 2nd and 1st placed drivers, in the end I came in an easily won 2nd place, but I was disappointed, would’ve been a nice race. This guy was a high level too.

It’s not just the newcomers that need to learn how to race, it’s also the ones who should already know how to do it.

I been getting a lot of people bumping me wide so they can wedge inside. Boy this really testing my patients, and some time I fail. Which doesn’t end well for either of us.
