PS5 Steering Wheel Support Unnecessarily Restricted, Please Fix

When using a steering wheel (Fanatec ClubSport DD+ with various rims) on PS5, I can’t map any extra buttons or axes beyond what the standard DualSense controller offers. Everything is restricted to basic controller inputs. For example, the accelerator and brake pedals are treated as R2 and L2 inputs, making the dedicated R2 and L2 buttons on the wheel completely useless. Additionally, telemetry-based features like the speedometer and rev LEDs don’t work either.

From what I understand, the Xbox version had the same limitations, but that was due to restrictions at the Xbox OS level, affecting all games. However, PS5 doesn’t have these limitations, and games like Assetto Corsa Competizione, WRC, and F1 24 on PS5 fully utilize extra buttons, axes, and telemetry-based features like the speedometer and rev LEDs on steering wheels. Even if telemetry features were too much, FH5 on PS5 should at least offer full steering wheel input mapping capabilities similar to its PC version, instead of being artificially handicapped to match the Xbox version. Please fix this.

Same issue with Logitech G29, we need more support to map the rest of the buttons, also there seems to be a bug when mapping look left and right, it just doesn’t work with the wheel at all

I agree 100% with what the previous speakers have said. It is even worse:

I have to / should map buttons that I don’t want and don’t need (rewind etc.) and that take away buttons for mapping and I can’t assign buttons that I want to map because they are already occupied or they don’t work when I press them - for example: Triangle button to look back, L3 to look left, R3 to look right works on the controller but not on the Fanatec DD Pro. I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to set up the steering wheel the way I set it up and use it in Gran Turismo 7. 1/ 3 of the buttons cannot be mapped because the 4 extra buttons on the DD Pro steering wheel in Horizon 5 have no function either.

Correction to my previous statement that the FFB settings were missing on my PS5:

I found out why I had no FFB settings:

FH5 recognizes the current input controller - pad or steering wheel “on the fly”. If you only work with the PS5 pad when entering the data, the FFB part is missing at the bottom of the advanced settings. If you press the steering wheel brake once and call up the advanced settings menu again, the steering wheel is active and you can see the FFB settings.

This is so disappointing to hear - I’ve hundreds of hours on my Xbox on wheel, but the wheel support was always a bit lacking. Was looking forward to not having the Xbox wheel restrictions so extra buttons could be used. Mostly though it sucks to hear that the years old “look back doesn’t work on wheel” bug has been ported to the new version

I have the same issues with button mapping not working at all, very frustrating with cross-bindings and extremely limited functionality compared to most PS4/5 games. Hopefully this can be fixed in a future update.

I do get all of those FFB options at the very bottom of controller options if I scroll right down though.

Same issues here.

The worst is that “Clutch” and “Look back” no matter the key binded will not work :frowning:

Exact same problem here, using a logitech G29 (ps3/ps4 version of the G29, not that it matters) - can drive around etc and do the basic things, but L2/R2 buttons on the wheel redundant like explained above and similar problems with looking left/right.

For the G29, some other buttons are redundant also (I imagine similar issues are happening with other rigs). The game will not recognise inputs to the + and - button, the red rotating knob or the “return” button within said knob.
I have used the same setup on PC from FH3 through FH5 and never had any issues like this.

Had briefly some luck with looking left and right (used the dpad) but it worked for like 1 minute and reverted back to not working for the day, I gave up on trying to get that working. Assigning photo mode to the top of the dpad works just fine so its not a case of the buttons themselves not working, you can navigate the menus with dpad just fine so theres a separate but related issue as regards looking around with the wheel.

I just saw SLAPTrain was talking in his latest FH5 vid about having to use his controller to look around while trying to drive with his wheel, so hopefully this thread can get enough traction because it’s probably affecting a lot of people who bought the PS5 version with the idea of using a wheel.

Hello…

I am new playing FH 5 on my PS5. I am looking for wheel settings for a G29 to keep the vehicle in control and the wheel spinning ridiculously when I lose control. Also can someone sum up FFB settings and steering sensitivity. Thank you.

I have the same problem on a t300 on the ps5
And i did also assign diffrent buttons fo looking back in game and it doesn’t work at all.
Really disappointed in a game that is 4 years old and now selling for €100 for playstation 5
And even not working properly.

I managed to get the clutch to work by trying to map the clutch using the controller, go to controls, then go to clutch mapping, tap the actual clutch pedal, try to save and it will ask you to save using the wheel, do the steps again but this time using the wheel buttons and save, this fixed it for me

Do you remember how did you manage to get look left and right to work on the dpad on the wheel?

Clutch isn’t a problem for me either, it seems to have its own unique mapping unlike the brake / throttle in my case

Honestly, I don’t remember it very well, I think I like disconnected the wheel and plugged it back in, and what i do remember was i had to “invert” the controls i.e dpad left to look right, dpad right to look left (weird i know), but it stopped working within like a minute or two and i just gave up trying not long after. For that brief period it did work, you could only look like 90 degrees left or right, if you had the same mappings on a PC setup you could effectively use the dpad like a thumbstick to look around 360 degrees.

Same here, PS5 + T300. Mapping doesn’t work at all. Big disappointment.

When I select Default layout 2 for wheel I can look back pressing triangle (which makes no sense because that is not what it says in the layout).

But when you pull out your controller to look at the map or w/e, your wheel buttons reset and you can’t look back anymore.

Unplayable with a wheel, what a let down.

From what I can tell it seems that the button mapping jumps from wheel map then the conreoller map. For example I mapped triangle to change POV on my wheel map. It changes the POV then rewinds.

I would like to use my controller for all the other areas of the game too. I was excited and expecting more coming from GT7 into this.

Yup, really annoying. Was pretty hyped to play the game with my wheel. But the lack of these basic features is really disappointing.
