Possible workaround on PC when FH 5 refuses to start

Double-clicking on the desktop icon works similarly.

I found that out due to boredom and irritation while trying for the fourth time in a row to get the game to launch.

Basically when the game windows minimizes and the small FH5 logo appears then you should click on the game icon to start the game again. It also works with the xbox app you simply press play while it loads to open it again. This method works every time. The devs are amazing…

Finally, I’ve found my people. I have experienced this very same issue for the past week and it’s driving me crazy! I just tried the above mentioned “fix”, and I can confirm that it’s also working here. Pure stupidity!

Won’t surprise me if this seriously impacts the current player base on PC, so if it seems like there are fewer people playing FH5 right now, this could easily be the cause.

So this is the first reason I’m not gonna buy FH6. Even if it turns out amazing (which it won’t ) I don’t trust them at all.

Latest update (from today) fixed this issue for me. It launches fine now, and the game in general loads A LOT quicker.

For me it didn’t and I still have to do the “multiple clicks on start-up” workaround. Additionally the game once crashed on the main screen today which didn’t happen before.

After that latest update my game won’t launch and this time it doesn’t even show the car logo with the small screen. It crashes to desktop

Argh…this also happend to me a couple of times so far.

For me this was Process Monitor. It took a while to figure it out but when I quit Process Monitor the game would start and I could play again.

Is that easily found in task manager?

Desktop PC’s both work fine, but laptop that used to have FH5 installed and starting/running just fine, now reinstalled needs solution by @Zat_The_Alien - when I get small splash screen, click on play button few times, or it won’t start.

@Zat_The_Alien Thank you :+1:

Update:

Since I’ve updated my CPU from a Ryzen 2700X to a Ryzen 5800X3D, there were no problems starting FH5 the first time. But now the problems are back. Now I’ve found out the following:

There’s another Task preventing FH 5 on PC to start. If you tried to start it and it didn’t, open your Task Manager before your 2nd try. You will then find a task called “C++ Application Framehost”.

Try to start FH 5 again and kill above task. This works for me and every 2nd try FH 5 starts. It’s important to do that workaround in the following order:

  • 1st try FH 5 starting and wait for it to stop running,
  • open Task Manager,
  • 2nd try FH 5,
  • when the splash screen appears, kill the C++ task

and it should hopefully start.

I don’t get it why the devs don’t fix this. This seems to be the only game in MS Game Pass who has that problem.

If not and you have other games then this must be a Game Pass-/Microsoft-problem.

This game takes absolutely ages to load now, worse than before. The developers must just not care? Here is how long it takes for me.

The big splash screen where it says signing in, checking for updates, launching game, this takes 21 seconds. Then the small splash screen appears and sits there for a further ONE MINUTE. Really I am not exaggerating. Total time so far, 1:21.

Now the unskippable splash screens (which you don’t get on Xbox consoles) take another 30 seconds.

Only at 1:58 do I get to the part where I can click continue to actually load the game. This takes 19 seconds.

Total loading time 2:17.

FWIW Forza Horizon 4 takes about 15 seconds before the splash screens appear, which is over a minute quicker than FH5. Both games use essentially the same engine so god knows what the developers have broken to make the latter take such a gigantically long time.

Why would the DRM be so demanding on FH5 but not FH4? I looked in task manager, there isn’t much CPU activity during that time. There is some but it’s low.

These lazy developers make me want to tear my hair out. Good developers would be appalled and work night and day to track down the problem. These ones just shrug and don’t care.

To be honest, it’s a price I am willing to pay, IF the mod/trainer detection actually works… Don’t get me wrong - I am really annoyed by the long “start procedure” and that it takes sometimes multiple attempts. But if this gets me a cheat protection, I am kind of okay and there is still hope that they can improve it.
But does the anti-cheat actually work? I guess the Montly Rivals will tell: All brand new times. Let’s see if there is again somebody several seconds faster than everybody else…

Really? Are you sure that’s working and up to date? I just checked a popular mod and that’s not working at the moment. No updates since February.
I got the impression that the secret addition of an anti-cheat back in October last year left an impact. I have not met any cheater in my daily Eliminator sessions since then. Before, I always recorded my sessions and regularly reported cheaters…

Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. I was just wondering if it’s some fishy page with no feedback that scams you and probably installs malware on your system. Or if it’s some legit page where people are actually commenting and liking. I was told back in October that the mod creators can indeed avoid the cheat protection. But they do not tend offer their mods to the public anymore, because PGG will find them too and add them to their blacklist… That’s why I am surprised that it took you only seconds to find a working one.

So we’re in july and it’s still happening to many people around me in forza’s discord. This is beyond pathetic.

The fix I found is to click the small splash screen a few times (maybe a single click works I’m not sure, I literally made an ahk script to keep clicking it) and it has been consistently working for me, but I am aware that it doesn’t work for everyone either.

Both me and the people I’m referring to have tried every solution under the sun (aside from this thread itself maybe) and it went to a point where when I contacted xbox support they literally ruined my xbox drivers and just left. Everything xbox related stopped working and I had to manually add the drivers back through the registry. Could you imagine how ridiculous and difficult of a process that was? Even as a software engineer it was challenging. As I said, beyond pathetic.

This is borderline paycheck stealing. But anyways, if anyone finds a new fix please share it with others, as computers act differently to the solutions. For me the clicking on the splash screen is working. Right clicking the game’s icon in the taskbar and clicking “Forza Horizon 5” seem to consistently launch the game as well but I haven’t tested this enough.
