My experience: horrible/20.

First things first, as always, where are all the other featured tours? Still disappeared. It’s getting old. Just bring back all of it. Not some of it. All of it.

Now, about this tour… I’m not going to be kind, because the game wasn’t kind to me.

I went into the Nascar series with an open mind, I really did. Two laps in I was so mindnumbingly bored out of my mind that I restarted the race, set the AI to level 1, and put my game on autopilot. I can’t stress just how immediate that feeling was. And these races are soooooooooooooooooooo incredibly, boringly long. And there’s six of them.

But after finishing the dishes and browsing on my phone for what felt like twelve billion hours, it was finally over.

I thought the next series would be normal. You know, it’s GTX cars, on tracks with turns. So I pick the 1982 Mustang because that was the one car I had in stock. Now, maybe it’s a car problem, maybe it’s another problem, and more on that theory later, but this car would not stop wheelspining all over the place. I was a dreadful experience. And like the previous series, this one also lasted forever.

For the third series, I picked the new Mazda, and it was actually kind of fine. It drove normally. Maybe a little long though.

And finally, the Daytona series. I picked the Ford, and immediately upon seeing the grid in the first race I knew I picked wrong. The grid was cleanly divided, all the Chevys in front, and all the Fords in the back. It felt kinda impossible to climb the rankings.

Now, what do I think the major problem with this tour was?

Well, they’re all spec races. You can’t pick upgrades. Well, the player can’t, the AI evidently isn’t restrained by this as they routinely had the same cars as me with a different PI. The AI cheats, which already isn’t great, but that’s not really the main issue with this.

The only way to kinda demark yourself thus isn’t with upgrades, but it’s with tuning. And if the game taught you how to tune a car, maybe that’d be fine. But it doesn’t. It doesn’t and I don’t know how to tune cars. So I’m stuck with cars that have horrid handling.

Add to that that the races are all long. I know some people here clamour for longer races, but I don’t. I think we can all agree that having the option to pick race length in career is sorely missing, and this tour examplified it painfully.

It’s even more painful when you still can’t tell how long your tyres will last in a race.

In short: Nascar is boring, the AI cheats, tuning still is an unfathomable and hostile menu, fixed length races aren’t great, and you still can’t build any sort of tyre strategy, and these problems aren’t new, but this tour put them front and center.

Edit: one more thing, but when you exit the pits, it’d be nice if the car wasn’t jerked into incoming traffic or off-track. That happened. That happened a lot.

Piaf: some people report you could use upgraded cars. I didn’t know, therefore, as far as my experience is concerned, these were spec series. It’s just much worse because maybe I wasn’t doom to have a terrible time, maybe there’s a timeline where I knew I could use upgrades and I had a decent time. We’ll never know because this tour has disappeared forever. Which is, again, another problem.

I didn’t like that the AI used car builds with higher PI than what we as players can achieve. This was especially prominent in the Le Mans series.
It was promised in one of the pre-launch streams by Chris Esaki AI cheats like this will not happen in this game. If you can’t make the AI competitive, work on the AI instead of falling back to these lazy methods.

You could use upgraded cars in all races so far as I can recall. What you couldn’t do was upgrade the cars from within the events themselves - you had to upgrade them first.

It seems dubious to me as it’s the only tour that didn’t have the upgrade menu available at any point, but if that’s the case it’s just more baffling.

I also thought the featured tour was poorly put together:

  • nascar event was far too long. Give players the choice as to how many events they want to do and/or how long each race is.

  • events with pit stops would work better if the game proper gave you back control of the car afterwards. My car crashed on exiting the pit on one of the mind-numbing long nascar oval races, ruining that race even further.

  • the AI still appears immune from tyre wear.

  • the AI had cars upgraded to a PI above that which is possible in some events.

All the above meant that this featured tour was far too long and not enjoyable.

Give players the choice as to how long events are and allow us to amend the tyre wear multiplier in career races so that we can properly balance the events if you haven’t got it right.

It definitely was the case as I used upgraded cars for all races but, yes, it was just irritating not to be able to upgrade from within the events.

Did the upgrades actually stick?

Yes, my cars were fine. As Rayne mentioned, the AI still have cars about 20 PI above the max PI for the cars in some races but there wasn’t a problem using upgraded cars.

I have no words right now to express how unbelievably dumbfounded I am. I mean this is actually breaking my brain, why wasn’t the upgrade menu available like every tour before if you could use upgraded cars?

The option is missing in the first event of the Australian tour as well. I just did the event using the stock car so I don’t know if you can still upgrade though.

In the event I’m not sure. I had all V8 Supercars upgraded to S800 beforehand and could use them.

Yeah, so it’s the same then. The upgrade menu is missing in the event but you can use upgraded cars you bring in.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll try to keep it in mind and report back. I did the first two series of the Open Tour, and the upgrade menu was there I’m pretty sure. So I don’t know what they’re playing at, but they should stop it.

Those next gen nascar cars were really good!
FM needs more modern race cars like LMH & LMDh cars.

Huh? Which cars are you referring to? The current gen NASCARs are called Gen-7.

Bring back 3 class rotation for open races. Or better just make all class available all the time (well open class races left long ago so… Meh, even I didn’t play much for last 4 months due to X4 tyre wear)

As usual I only engage with multiplayer so here’s some notes:

  • NASCAR is good. The cars are well balanced and the Featured Multiplayer series is solid (though it does railroad you into a single track type if you do multiple races in a row). Also appreciate that we got “generic” models instead of several team-specific duplicates as this is much better for painters and tuners.
  • Medium races being 20 minutes and 4.0x wear feels right.
  • Short races still have the issue I have been raising for several months now. This is a serious issue for those organising group sessions with these Series: Featured Multiplayer - Entries for Short races close 2 minutes too early (1912216)
  • Rolling starts are greatly appreciated (I’ve only been asking about them on this forum for 8 years). Add them everywhere, especially everywhere that uses cars/Divisions of R, P and X.
  • Physics changes weren’t immediately obvious but if they make driving more fun/consistent then keep them coming.
  • Advanced Ghosting is a win. I think it needs a bit more work as it doesn’t ghost enough potential incidents but it has helped.
  • FRR still needs a bit of work though this is second-hand feedback as I typically don’t drive in a way that earns collision penalties often.
  • Private Multiplayer lobbies are nearly “feature perfect” for my needs. They need a way to mandate “Spec builds” like Featured Multiplayer can do but beyond that they have almost everything I could want/need to run events.

The Drivatars have gotten so bad that I now must play with “Rewind” turned on in every race.

I appreciate that we finally got the proper divisions in the most recent update, but we are still not getting content on Freeplay.
It’s been over a year and all we’ve gotten is a few weather options.
The “new” tracks keep me busy, but then it gets repetitive and boring.
I’ll say it yet again: more content on Freeplay. Custom car list is what I want the most from this game.
