Player count and hours

Many say that the game is dead, because there are few players on Steam and compared to the horizon

Firstly, Forza Horizonte 5 is the biggest racing game of all time in terms of player numbers, there is no point comparing it to FM, FM will never reach those numbers

Another mistake is to compare with AC or Iracing, games with a focus on PC and simulation, but which are relevant on consoles, casual audiences don’t play these games

Now, FM was designed for the GP and that’s why it works on the monthly update system, and the focus is on the game time that players spend on it, and this is a crucial factor that helps the game.

Let’s use the game HIGH FI RUSH as an example, the game was played a lot and was a success at the time, it takes around 10 hours to complete on average, after that the player never opens the game again, how many players did HIGH FI have 1 year and 2 months betting on the launch?

In FM players play for much longer periods

In this photo we can see that I have 858 hours of play, and I’m not even the one with the most hours among my friends, for a game like HIGH FI RUSH to have that amount of play time it needs an average of 85 players, for “FVKvilao”, that would be 100 players, and if you add the 7 players that appear on the screen it would give a total of 5,525 hours of play, a 10 hour campaign game would need 552 players to give the screen time of 7 frequent FM players

In the GP system this is more important, how many hours you play your game.

This ends up being reflected in the fact that FM is always among the most popular games in the GP, something that would not happen in its first 5 months

Is the game perfect for that reason? NO…The game has a lot to improve, it launched well below expectations, but I believe so, this game will continue to receive support for years, it is more popular on GP than Steam, but that’s what it’s for it was designed

I have faith in the developers, and I believe that we will have a bright future and that this game will do what No Mans Sky or Fallout76 did

It objectively was not among the most popular GP games. Your image shows your popular titles, not the global or regional popular. Trueachievements lists this as #40 out of 100.

Depends on what you want from this game. There’s been significant push-back from day zero to bring this title up to par with the previous entries and here we are a year later, still waiting for tracks and features that were stripped away.

you’re wrong, this is the general list, I never played COD, FC24, Indiana, etc., in fact from that list I only played forzas and CTR (maybe I opened mine once in my life)

And about achievements, it falls into the same point I said, achievement does not represent game time

It’s obvious that 85 Hi Fi Rush players will have more achievements than I alone, even if the playing time is the same, the game being ranked 40th in achievement only proves that individual players play for much longer and that’s why the game remains in our most popular.

Fine, take Microsoft’s word for it. It’s not even close to one of the most played games overall. Your image clearly stated that it was an individuals popular list of games, not a global or regional list.

I entered incognito mode on my cell phone’s browser and went to the most popular GP games and it was the same.

Again, I’m not saying the game is perfect or anything, I just want to point out that maybe it’s not a complete disaster today, after more than a year of updates

because many believe that the game would no longer receive updates in 2025, that it would be closed, now they’re saying that in 2026 it will stop receiving content, and I don’t think so, maybe for the GP model the game is sustainable, and that’s good, because we can demand improvements, which are countless

I did some napkin math based on achievement data (and a bit of industry experience) and equated that the game likely had somewhere between 500,000 and 2,000,000 players in 2024 across all platforms.

If that is true, I hoped Forza Motorsport would have performed better considering there are approximately 34 million GamePass subscribers (as far as I could glean from what some websites are reporting). I mean if you have GamePass, you can play it for no extra cost.

Heck, Gran Turismo 7 is estimated to have sold 5-6 million units (numbers may now be higher considering how old some estimates are online).

If you have GamePass, you can play a lot of games at no extra cost, including the more accessible Horizon.

FM is a niche game. The vast majority of people aren’t going to give it the time of day, or for those who might, there’s a more colorful and attractive option on the market.

Considering the vastly better sales numbers of the PS5 Gran Turismo is going to be higher numbers easily. It probably always has had them. Motorsport is always going to be a somewhat niche series compared to an IP like Forza Horizon which is going to appeal to a bigger casual racer market.
