I’m new to Forza, having owned PS1/2/3 and recently bought XB1.
I’m used to playing GranTurismo series on PS, and wanted to give Forza series a go.
So far, I’m still confused about this game. Hoping somebody can help me out here:
I’ve raced about 4 or so series of races, basically going where the narrator told me to go. Won them all, but now when I don’t get any prompts to go to the next destination, and all I can see on the world map are XP boards, speed traps, and bucket list challenges. To me these are like little side quests. Am I finished with solo races? I tried online racing and didn’t like it. Too many players just crashing into each other taking each other out.
So far I’ve amassed about 360,000 credits. But where do I spend this money? On GT series, there was a clear idea of what to do with the money. You see a car you want, save up for it by winning races, and you buy the car. Then you look at what upgrades you want (tyres, weight reduction, spoilers, etc and buy them with the money from winning races. But so far in Horizon 2 I haven’t had to spend a single credit and I’ve got a Ferrari, Lancer Evolution etc.
Basically I’m still lost on the flow of this game… any help?
Firstly this is a spinoff from the main Forza series so don’t judge all Forza games based on Horizon. Forza Motorsports is closer to Gran Turismo.
FH2 is set up with road trips.
The early game is not like the guts of the game in that it asks you to do showcase events, bucket list events and go to a car meet. But the guts of the game is roadtrips which are made up of 3 championships.
At the end of a championship it usuallys asks you to head back to the hub for that championship (this will be orange on the map). When you go in the hub it will either ask you to enter a championship which will ask you to pick a location or it will tell you to head back to the festival to attend the awards party.
If you have headed back to the festival then you need to go to the orange symbol to “start new road trip”.
The autoshow is where you can buy cars. There is one at the festival and inside each hub. There is also a garage where you can buy upgrades for your car. Once again there is a garage at the festival and one inside each hub.
You can also buy cars at car meets.
Some of these features may still be locked depending on exactly how much single player you have done.
In short to continue press the menu button, go to map and look for an orange symbol. That is where to go to.
The game is set up in road trips. You start a Horizon Festival. There are three locations to each road trip. Four races per location. After completing the 3rd location, you have to go back to Horizon Festival. You get your results of that road trip, and then you chose the next road trip you want to take.
As far as spending money, the only thing you can buy is cars and upgrades. The autoshow is at Horizon Festival where you can buy cars. The garage is also at Festival, where you can upgrade your cars. And both of these can be accessed from the 6 festival locations at the hub.
Okay thanks… I was a bit lost thinking there were no more single player races to enter after 3 championships, but then I realised there was a new festival for me to travel to and enter a 4-race championship.
It looks like I’ve only won 3 out of 158 championships, so there’s plenty more single player races to enter!
Still don’t really get why I have to drive to the destination to enter races, I guess they wanted to introduce a bit of realism, but I’d prefer just clicking to enter.
After having dabbled in a few online races, I think I’ll just keep playing single player mode.
Horizon is the “fun driving in an open road environment” spin-off of the Forza Motorsports series. If you prefer the competitive track racing like in the GT games, then you’ll like FM.
Everything before you complete your first championship and return to the main festival hub is a mandatory tutorial like scenario where you must follow the narrator and do what the game is forcing you to do. After that you have everything unlocked and can do as you please which includes buying, upgrading, and tuning cars.
I think as far as the online part of the game goes you are just being unlucky. Join a decent club and make some some new XBOX buddies and I am sure the experience will change. Even if the online still grates you, the rivals challenges are great fun. Coming from Gran Turismo to FH2 and comparing them is difficult because they are not really the same kind of racing game. As a previous poster said Forza 5 may be more up your street, but in my opinion it is a little light on content compared to GT6. Is it the better game though ? I think so.
I came from the GT series over to the Forza series and have settled here, I did have a go on GT6 and quite enjoyed it but decided I’d rather get the XB1 and get back on the Forza. Like people are saying the Motorsport series is more along the lines of your GT series and I avoided getting the first FH, this second one appealed due to the tuning side of the game and has been quite enjoyable but try and get into a car club thats active in the game, the club I’m with is people I’ve know for some time but they are not active in FH2 and the online side of the game with friends is thus lacking for me, joining random people online is the usual problem whether your on Horizon, Motorsport or even GT series…too many people who are…well you know what’s it like having already tried online, so find an active club is a must, they can help you with the co-op stuff, any other challenges you may struggle with and they might even do there own competitions all to make your Horizon experience a lot more intersting aand pleasant.
