Planning to pick up X1 + FM5; some questions!

Well hellooo there fellow petrolheads!

I’ll finally be picking up an X1 just for FM5 and H2, and I have some questions and/or concerns before getting it:

  • Do I need to worry about what model or version it is of the console? I don’t believe there have been any hardware revisions, so as long as the DOM is somewhere in 2014, I’m all set?

  • Since I’m from S.E.Asia, I’ll be picking up a PAL console. Are there any frame rate or performance differences between US and Asian/Middle-eastern consoles, like we had the previous generation?

  • Does Xbox Live work properly in ALL S.E.Asian countries?

  • I’m told you need to keep the console updated, so as far as connecting to XLive is concerned, I don’t need membership just to download updates and free DLC right? A Silver Live membership would suffice for updates and free game DLC?

  • How long would a free car pack or track DLC take to download on a 4 MB DSL connection?

  • Is there anything I need to know regarding console operation, updates and/or game operation/updates in order to make sure it is optimized to run FM5 and H2 without any hiccups or anomalies? (been reading a lot of discerning stuff on forums and the internet)

Well, I guess that’s all I have off the top of my head.

Would love to have your thoughts and feedback.

Happy Motoring…can’t wait to experience Forza on new gen!

Can I get some feedback here?

Thanks!

In a nutshell, no need for concern to any of your questions - answers to them will unfold rapidly - updates, membership - all of them. Just get it and play it. And don’t just accept all the discerning stuff you read - a lot of times the problems some referred to were self inflicted - like playing the console instead of playing the game. Enjoy and welcome.

Oh yeah?

Guess the only thing left now is to look forward to the purchase.

get a cheep microsoft store prepaid card. i think they are as cheap as 10 dollars and tie that to your account. rather than being free the dlc is 0.00. the difference being it checks you account for payment and if the balance is zero it wants a credit card before you can down load it. if you even have 25cents on your account you wont need the ms store card since you would have enough to cover the purchase. i just dont like useing credit cards on line. if i have to i’ll buy a pre paid but ms store cards are cheaper. if it says free you can download it no problem. if it says 0.00 you need a payment type set up with the ms store 1st.

Welcome to the forums,
you will need an Internet connection the get the Xbox set up, no more internet is needed afterwards unless you want to play live online.
I am new to xbox, but iam learning fast due, mostly because the eye that reads the disk broke a few weeks after I bought it. So I bought another new Xbox while the first one is in repair. I have had two pair of headphones, plus the ones that come with it. I still cannot chat, I can hear people but I can’t transmit for some reason. I did buy a wheel, pedal and shifter, then I realized I needed an adapter for it to work, the adapter was very complicated to get working with the wheel.
Then learning the game itself is another challenge.
Iam not enjoying the game as much because I have had so many problems, not being able to get my headsets to chat just makes it frustating.

first make sure there is no orange light in the head set connector. the orange slash mark/light means you have it muted. then check the console settings and make sure you dont have anything nuted or the volume turned down in it. with multiple head sets it leads me to believe its something in the console settings. it might have downloaded old settings to the new console some how via your account.

Every XB1 in existence will run any XB1 game fine so you won’t need to worry about hardware or anything, just set the console up and you’re good to go!

Every game when you put the disc in will need to install to the hard drive. After a certain percentage it says its ready to play, but its recommended to wait until its 100%, reset the console and then play.

Really? The Bluray drive just stopped working? Did this happen while you were installing a game?

Right… or the game might exhibit stutters, popping sounds or crash perhaps? I know those things are unlikely, but I’ve read several times on this forum how you should always install 100%, do a reset and then play the game. Also, you need to turn off stand by or power saving mode, is that correct? I read it gets rid of the random popping sounds in FM5. not the exhaust pop or crackles

We don’t have access to those here; I’ll really ahve to look around (from SE.Asia). The three DLC tracks that came out - are they “FREE” or “0.00” ? What about free car packs? Does it say free or 0.00?

I don’t think I should have to show any cash in the account or get a prepaid card just to get FREE track and car DLC. Can anybody please vouch for this??

actually it looks like it should have been fixed, credit card no longer required. http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst18619_FM5-DLC-needs-credit-card.aspx

Thanks for the link. It seems now we can download free dlc as FREE. No verification required.

I just hope Live doesn’t have regional restrictions. I’m from SE.Asia, picking up a PAL console. Looks like I already mentioned that!

Yep! You’ve mentioned SE Asia and PAL in every post. SE Asia covers a lot of territory but I don’t believe the XB1 will be any different to elsewhere in the world. As far as I’m aware they’re region free.

Just be wary that there’s an issue with some newer Xbox One consoles involving the disc drive. The drive doesn’t pull the disc in far enough to be read, so when your console lays in its normal position, it more than likely won’t detect the disc. To fix this, we call on gravity! I’m not joking… You have to tilt your console upright and then insert the disc. Gravity pulls it in enough to be read. I was infuriated that my brand new XB1 and FM5 weren’t cooperating until I found out about that.

Honestly, this has got to be the most bizarre account of console hardware malfunction I’ve come across in a while!

I thought the earlier versions had the issue with not reading discs properly…

Anyway, the one I’ll be getting is a 2014 manufactured model; he didn’t say early, mid or late, so fingers crossed until I get it. My FM5 copy’s going to be preowned by the way. Any issues to report with used Bluray game discs? I.e. do they mess around the way audio CDs and game/movie DVDs do when they start getting worn out or scratched?

Ah yes, the console is region free; you can buy it anywhere, go to another location and purchase games from there, everything works.

But is there anywhere to know if Live is available in ALL SE.Asian regions? If I invest in an X-One plus both Forzas, I’m going to be hopelessly disappointed if I’m not able to download the three tracks and car DLC.
