PI Ratings in FH5 - new Offroad rating

As with previous Forza games, each car is giving an overall Performance Index number to give a relative sense of its racing capability. Higher is better, up to a maximum of 999. There are also categorized ratings with a maximum score of 10.0 for Speed, Handling, Acceleration, Launch, Braking… and new for FH5: Offroad.

Disappointing to not see S2 split in half. Maybe it is and there is an S3? Doesn’t look that way though. Hopefully the new tire compounds can help mitigate the issue. The new slick compound might just do it. The issue was that there were a bunch of cars that started in S2 but couldn’t make it to the top of S2, making them kind of useless for those of us who PvP at all.

I can see the slick tire compound solving this (and maybe the various other new tire compounds as well), but I still would have preferred both options.

I just hope the offroad Stat is somewhat reliable. This is one change I was happy to see. One of my biggest gripes was how bad the tire compound ratings were set. Seemed like they were all set running on tarmac. Maybe now teammates will use the proper tires for dirt racing.

I’m also thrilled for the off-road stat, also was a little shocked to see offroad race tires available for that Porsche. Those tires were usually reserved for trucks and a few offroad cars had the option to add them or they already came with them equipped, its gonna make for an interesting twist if all cars have the same compounds available to use.

What’s the difference between the off road racing tires and off-road rally tire?

My guess would be true offroad tires designed for grass and mud. Rally tires are for dirt/snow. Won’t really know until we can actually test them. Overall,I’m happy to see numerous tire compounds with matching stats that hopefully are based on the intended driving surface.

Wish they would standardize the PI ratings across Horizon and Motorsports series

I was happy to see that FH5 will now include an “Offroad” score, joining the traditional four scores.

In the latest Forza Monthly stream, they show this feature off, using a 2018 Porsche 911 GT2. With the stock suspension, the Offroad score is a 4.3, and switching to the Rally Springs / Shocks, the Offroad score goes up to a 6.4. This all looks great so far.

The Drift suspension is still available as an option as well. Sadly, when the PGG presenter moves over to the Drift suspension to illustrate, the Offroad score drops to a 4.5.

Stock (I presume the “Race”) suspension yields an Offroad score of 4.3, and the “Drift” suspension earns a 4.5? Not what I would have expected.

Video starts at 19:30 mark. Forza monthly

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but a drift suspension is supposed to allow weight to transfer through the body, whereas a race suspension is trying to prevent that. That would mean that in some small way, drift suspension would be better for offroad than race suspension, despite being lower (remember we’re working in a reality where the car is invincible and it’s impossible to get stuck).

It’s pure accident that it’s true, but I do believe that given the conditions stated in the brackets above, a drift suspension would be slightly better that a race one. Might also have something to do with higher camber and more turning radius. Add all of that on top of the fact that the “rating” has to include all possible settings for the tune, meaning you could crank up the ride height and loosen the suspension, and yeah I can see what it’s better for offroad. Still isn’t good though.

Impossible?
(typical day for me )

I feel alone considering that proposing off road & dirt tires for all cars kills benefits of having so many cars. One more FH with incredible rally cars just taking dust in the garage. Don’t misunderstand me, I am totally ok with the arcade approach and cars jumping like on the moon but if you can use any car for anything, it shrinks the set of performant cars, it shrinks the game.

what’s worth even having filters on cars categories if all cars can be super performant in any track type ? I think I used it only for playlist.

If cars restrictions were there, some would claim ‘you’re wrong it’s possible etc’ but it would largely benefit to game challenge of identifying the right car for a race conditions thus leading to use much more different cars than in previous FHs

Considering PI points, I have always considered the link between PIs and performance in race very approximative and mostly disregarded those indicators. I would have preferred to hear that tire width would get legit PIs effect compared to FH4 in which front tires width has a high cost with very little benefits if any.
