PC Version. Stuttering!!

So, just started FM7 again after a month or two giving it a break [it was working fine back then]. I have found that the game stutters every second, it basically freezes for 50ms. I didn’t measure how long it freezes for, but it is enough to throw off my racing. Is there a fix for this yet? Does T10 know about it?

I have tried turning down graphics settings to minimum and that has not helped. My GPU only runs about 40C when I play, so it is hardly working at all.

Super frustrating, any advice would be really helpful.

Same for me. I bought a new 144 hz Monitor and now i have some Micro Stutters.

It looks like this: [fixed by deleting Avira] Forza Motorsports 7 stutters - YouTube

^^^ For this guy, try doing 60 or 75hz with vertical sync ON. I know this sounds counter productive, as your monitor more than likely has Gsync or Freesync. Just trust me. Racing games very rarely run smooth with unlocked frame rates , or high refresh. Assetto Corsa, PC2, F7, Forza horizon, all give me the same issues. They need vertical sync on. Even if you’re getting 120fps in game, turn the resolution scale up, and sync it at 75 or 60. I have a S2716DG, the 144hz gsync panel from dell, and i turn Vsync on in all of these games, with 0 issue, assuming I don’t have Avira or an antivirus also messing with the game.

I have same problem. Yesterday it didn’t stutter at all, but today it started to stutter every 2-3 seconds during race.

After last night when i was turning off my pc, windows installed new update, January 8, 2019—KB4480116. I have to check if this the one causing stuttering

That is exactly what is happening. So annoying. I have heard that rolling back to windows 1709 ish, helps.

Make sure to check your video settings, as I just noticed mine were unknowingly turned back to default dynamic, which isn’t optimal for my system.

Nope, it isn’t that. The game runs beautifully, but every couple of seconds it tanks. I have seen crappy fps due to demanding GPU settings on this game, and it isn’t that.

From what I have read, it is a Windows update that killed it. v1709 Windows 10 was working. I don’t want to roll back that far, for fear other things will break.

Still keeps stuttering. I tried to change graphic settings, uninstall windows updates, reinstall drivers, memory cache timed scheduling.
Can’t rollback my windows version to 1709, because there is no windows.old file.

Was there any game server maintenance during past few days? As a online game could it be the problem, if there was any server maintenance on game servers or in Forza Hub?

Try NOT to run it on Fullscreen mode. Then switch to full Screen mode. It worked for me!

And i deleted my Avira Antivirus.

If any of you are using Avira Antivirus, that’s what causes the microstuters that stay constant throughout the entire game. I know this game has some problems with microstuttering outside of this issue, but this is a major one that seems to go unmentioned. Avira Antivirus does not like this game.

I have dealt with the same exact issue, where what seems like every 2 or 3 seconds the game pauses or stutters. It happened on the same exact portion of the track every time. I tried everything. Completely uninstalling Avira worked , and it’s never happened since. The down side to that is, if it is Avira, or your current anti-virus/firewall, you’re gonna have to fish around for a new one.

i had the same Issues with AVAST Antivirus (free version) installed, removed it and everything runs smooth as always.

Yes, the developers need to post a memo, or thread about antivirus/firewall issues with FM7. 90% of the microstutter’s (that manifest in this fashion) are caused by the antivirus or firewall. And even more than that, it seems like it’s mostly Avira. I’m surprised to hear you mention AVAST. Either way, it’s good to have more data. The dev’s prob have no idea this is a problem, because they don’t even tell people about it, let alone fix it.

I use Avira Antivirus…just the free version…and dont have any issues like micro stutters so it might just affect some and not others…or could be coincidental

Mine actually started a couple of days before the last Windows update so it wasn’t that I don’t think. Been running smooth since day one then suddenly last Sat consistent stutters. Nothing changed on my computer from when it worked to when it didn’t except an AVG program update (owned by Avast so I’m suspicious of it). Given some other people’s problems with anti virus programs I guess that may be the culprit. I submitted a ticket on the support page and think everyone who has suddenly had this issue pop up should do the same. Maybe it will be looked into. Does anyone know a free AV program that works properly with Forza? There seems to be a lot that don’t.

I only use Malwarebytes and Windows Defender, they’re usually the least intrusive and are free.

I read that Defender is a lot better now. Does it protect while browsing the web and intercept virusus online? It doesn’t seem to mention that. I use Malwarebytes (free) but I think you need the paid version for real time online protection. May be worth buying though it since it is the least intrusive AV.

FIXED IT FOR ME!!

So my Forza 7 has ran FINE ever since I purchased it at launch on my PC, I’ve ALWAYS had Avast Anti Virus - never any issues. Suddenly 5 days ago I start getting microstutters, constant 60 FPS drops for half a second to 30 or 30 or 20…I had the latest Radeon Drivers (Using a Radeon R9 200 4GB) so I rolled them back, I rolled Windows update back, re-tried…Tried lowest graphical settings, no difference - I even deleted the game and re-downloaded it (90 damn GIG of it!) no changes…As a LAST ditch attempt (As I’ve ALWAYS had Avast Anti Virus) I uninstalled that thinking it can’t be that as I’ve always had it…and hey presto, that was it. So I would just say to anyone, try uninstalling your Anti Virus software and just see it it’s that before you spend 2 days doing what I did as it takes 30 seconds.

If anyone can recommend other free AVG I’m all ears!! Happy RACING

FINALLYYY!!!

Using the free Bitdefender seems to produce no stuttering on my end. Will check back in in about a week.

Still would be nice to see T10 acknowledge this issue.

I had this problem a few months ago and fixed it by changing AV from Avira to Avast, now I have the problem again but with Avast, I will not change my AV again, fix your game turn10

I posted in the other stuttering thread, but Ive also had this issue and was using Avast. Uninstalled it and the issue remained. I tried uninstalling the latest Windows security patch and it remained. I tried rolling back to a Jan 2nd restore point and that failed. I dont know what to do at this point. Seems like all the tracks stutter in the exact same spots and some virtually not at all. I also tried windowed mode vs full screen and that also did not work. I am out of ideas, which really stinks because I have this brand new Logitech G29 sitting here that I cant use.
