[ANSWERED] Experiencing Framerate-Drops in FM7 exclusively

Hey folks,
Title says it – I’m experiencing framerate drops in FM7.

My spec:
i9 9900k
16g DDR4-3200
RTX 2080
Win 10 Home Oct 2018 update
Asus 1440p @ 144hz monitor / w Gsync

First off, I’d like to clearly state that my system is performing fine/as expected in various benchmarks as well as several other games, one of them being Forza Horizon 4, which runs absolutely silky smooth.
Forza Motorsport 7 however feels janky. I have somewhere between 130 and 160 FPS on max settings, however, every couple of seconds there’s a drop down to ~50 (?) FPS for a fraction of a second.

I have tried all the different FPS-caps in-game; 60FPS, 60FPS (VSync), Unlocked and Unlocked (VSync). All bearing the same results – yes, even at 60FPS these “stutters” are noticeable.

Interestingly, the game seems to run fine while standing completely still; at 0 speed, I can rotate the camera without these drops. HOWEVER, as soon as I start “rolling” (even at very low speeds), these frame drops re-appear.

So I’m thinking this issue might be related to the game loading new “assets” or new parts of the track. (As a sidenote: I’ve always had pretty bad object pop-in in this game. I.e. walls or other objects suddenly appearing directly in my line of sight, which might be another indicator?) Game is installed on a Samsung Evo 850 SSD which is not older than a year maybe.

Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this issue is seriously killing my enjoyment with the game, especially being spoiled by the technical mastery of Forza Horizon 4.

I believe there was/is an issue with Gsync, make sure you have it turned off. See if that helps.

I’m going to try that when i get home, thanks for the suggestions.
Did a little online research and there seems to have been an issue, but those posts were several months old, so yeah I’ll report back.

Anyways, it’s high time the industry introduced a “generic” standard instead of isolated, sub-optimal solutions that needlessly create complexity.

Also try to disable any background apps which are using overlay functions or hooks, for example Afterburner, Rivatuner, any GPU vendor software, logitech gaming software, razer or pretty much any gaming hw manufacturer software, also try to disable any apps which are running on GPU like Dropbox for example…

Did you ever find a cure for this as I am having the very same thing with my new MSI 2080, had smoother performance on my old 1070… maxed I’m at about 120 FPS then it drops to 50 something every 10 seconds or so. Unplayable

Never had an issue with stutter in races since the game was released. All of a sudden today the game stutters every 2 seconds constantly and is impossible to play. Nothing was changed on my computer at all. The only thing that happened was an AVG update, but that’s never affected the game before. Not sure what to do. Considering the problems people have had with frame rate/stutter for so long I guess they’re never going to address the issue. This will be the last time I spend good money on a Windows Store game. They always have issues but this is the last straw for me I think.

Exact same thing here, only it was an Avast update for me. Massive hitches in an otherwise perfectly fine framerate every 2-3 seconds regardless of graphics settings. Antivirus may be something for T10 to look into. No Windows updates or anything.

This is actually unplayable now. Seriously hope it gets some sort of hotfix.

Sounds like the exact same thing I’m experiencing. I’m just wondering why it’s starting now after the game being out for so long. I’ve always had AVG antivirus installed. I tried every other stutter fix people have mentioned but nothing works at all.

Same here, Gtx 1080. i could play the game in the first weeks with solid 60 fps in Full HD and everything on ultra

I have deinstalled Avast and installed the new Win 10 Update. Still the same. Microstuttering from 60 to 40 fps every fee seconds

How could it be it rubs great at the start and now like this for months
Fix this allready !!

To all of you having stuttering problems i can say I FOUND MY SOLUTION to the problem by changing the affinity to the process:

  • while in game open task manager (pressing simoultaneously Ctrl, Alt, Canc on the keyboard)
  • go to “DETAILS” menu
  • find the forzamotorsport7.exe
  • rightclick on it
  • set affinity:
in my case (i5 6600 gtx 1070 16 gb ddr4 ram) I have 4 cores CPU and i had to enable only CPU 1 and CPU3 (alternate) to solve the problem bu still had stutters after a long while…
  • the very best setting was to enable CPU1, CPU2 and CPU3!!!
    I’VE NO MORE STUTTERS

SO TRY CHANGING AFFINITY AS I WROTE AND FIND YOUR BEST SETTING: my best setting was to lleave
unabled CPU 0 and enabled CPU1, CPU2 and CPU3!!!

Still didn’t try uninstalling AVG antivirus…

Hi.
I have the same problem.

My specs:

Win10 Home 64 bit
I5 6600k @4,5 ghz
GTX 1070
16 Gb Ram

After release i played absolutely smooth on my GTX 970. But at the moment (with a better gtx 1070) its unplayable for me. Every 2-3 secs framedrops at <30 fps.
When will it be fixed ?

I have the same issue as well.

WHEN is someone responsible say anything about it ?

I have a good PC running with a 1080 GTX and i remember the Game after Launch being just fine.

Now i cant come back to a Racing Game i wanted to play for a long time and paid 100 Euros for.

DO something about it.

Please submit a ticket https://support.forzamotorsport.net/hc/en-us/requests/new so we can investigate further.

Hi! Try my solution (simillar hardware, mean i7 and 2080Ti). Get microsttuer a lot and frame drops sometimes too (min/max game helps for this - even pasue for menu and FPS back to max).

I think game engine is not prepared for anything more than 60FPS. Also sync is problem for game engine. In this case game should make 60FPS - it is best for engine - stable 60FPS. G-Sync LCD waits for every frame and for now this solution is best for me… Hope will good for You too.

After many another tests, I found some workaround that works for me. Almost no microstutters, no frame drops. I hope for longer.

So, that’s my solution.

  1. Setting in nVidia - custom for Forza 7 - Prefered refresh - highest (maybe this setting is not so importand but I have it now), V-Sync - 3D App settings, Sync Tech - G-SYNC, Energy - Prefer Maximum Performance.
  2. LCD - max for me → 100Hz (in my Asus it is OC mode), it works like that non stop in all other games, G-Sync ON. Maybe everything above 60FPS will work!*
  3. Forza 7 settings - ALL setting for MAX, One setting (that about %) set to 100%. But refresh set for 60 FPS (without sync)**.

**Setting 60 FPS with sync in fact wroks as 100 FPS. Microstutters occur. Unlocked - 140 FPS or more - micro stutters occur, Unlocked with sync - 80-100 FPS stutters occur.
But - 60 FPS without sync works in fact with GSYNC. No stutters. It has one cone. In this settings game rander 60 FPS not more. But I prefer 60FPS without stutters than 100FPS with mircostutters few time for a lap.

*Its quite importasnd to have LCD with higher refresh rate bacause if we have only 60 there will be frame tearing (strange but I observed it if LCD was on 60Hz (without OC).

This solution should work for all users with fast nVidia cards and faster then 60Hz G-Sync panels.

I am quite surprised you guys with super-beefy PCs are having these issues. I’ve played the game on both OG Xbox and Xbox One-X and it’s ran silky smooth for me in both cases. Well, aside from the texture pop in issues which I have only noticed on One-X for some reason, I honestly haven’t experienced frame drops while hotlapping or full-grid races in taxing conditions like weather. I did, however, notice very minor and occasional frame hiccups now and then which appeared to be some kind of caching issue. Moved the game to an external HDD and that seemed to cure it, while also cutting down lag in car menu.

I have the same problem, it worked smoothly for the last few weeks at ~60 FPS, but the last few days (i didnt changed anything on my PC) it has began tot stutter. I have the exact same problems as mentioned earlier by others. Now i have sent a ticket to Forza, and i hope i get a suitable answer, ill keep u guys in touch.

!SOLUTION!

I think almost all of the stuttering problems are related to the antivirus.
Ive used Avast, and when i deleted it, my problems where over.
Then ive used Bitdefender, my stuttering was over, but ive had slow loading times and sound issues.
After that i reinstalled Avast and the stuttering reappeared.
After that i installed Panda antivirus and all my problems are over.
I hope this help u guys.

I seem to have issues with FPS stuttering, not really dropping but stutter on certin races and mostly happens when its night time.

What seem to fix it for me is to lock the FPS at 60 with out vsync, Unlocked FPS even with Vsync enabled I still get the same sort of stutter that drives me nuts, its hard to keep my line without crashing into another car or driving off the track or cutting a corner trying to compinsate for the stutter, The only time is goes away is when the race is over, if the round switches to another track its usally fine but sometimes its still there. I use Shadowplay to mesure FPS, background recording is off on both shadowplay and Windows game bar, FPS is always well above 100 with it unlocked.

Specs:
OS: Windows 10 build 1905 Insider Build
CPU: I7 5960x 4.5ghz
RAM: 64GB DDR4 2666mhz
GPU: 2x GTX1070’s (Game only uses 1 card)
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 1300G2

The game is also installed on a pair of raid 0 sata SSD’s, software raid. Normally I load in and pick my next car way before other people even vote for the next map lol, Storage speed is not a problem.

I too am suffering from Forza stuttering. Same symptoms as everyone else. Tried all the suggested fixes but no luck. Really annoyed by the lack of response from Turn 10.

had forza 7 for a long time, no issues whatsoever.

then my game started freezing every 10 seconds or so, like hang then back to normal.

what had i changed? got another nvme drive and changed to raid 0.

so, i removed the raid 0 and just tried two nvme drives, no raid 0.

back to over 100fps no issues.

then tried with raid 0 and same problem.

so, my suggestion to you is to try without raid. see if it helps.

also, i had hard disc monitor running - no more than a few mb peaks so it’s not as if the raid/nvme’s were throttling the game.

maybe if you can try running without raid?

i do realise this will mean downloading a 100gb game at the very least once, not sure how big an inconvenience that is.

oh, system spec - 2080ti, 32gb ddr4, samsung nvme (no longer in raid), 9900k
