Open top convertibles

Apart from older cars will there be convertibles? What do you guys think?

Eh, it seems as if Turn 10 is steering away from convertibles. Surely, however, there will be several open top vehicles (those built without roofs).

Surely they’re not the only ones. Aparently the general car buying public is as well. This may be due to manufacturers simply not offering them as much anymore but surely they are only doing so because of low sales, right?

The Miata is still a soft top standard but it does come with a hardtop option now which more and more people are opting for.
I believe you can still get a 370z with a convertible top.
Typically, these cars come with a slight premium that really doesn’t justify the price gap and I’m totally looking at you, Audi S5 Cabrio. It’s not a great value buy to begin with and tack on the extra for the convertible and most people stay away.

There are also several cars you can get with a retractable hardtop. Retractable hardtops often take up too much room with the top down and with your average car buyer being able to afford only one car,or two cheaper ones, (with the majority of the convertible market out of their budget) convertibles have taken a back seat.

Most convertibles you’d see driven top down on open roads, cruising along in a scenario you’d picture in Forza Horizon 2. On an actual track you’d be requested to put the top up (or put a hard top on) or leave to comply with safety standards. (Obviously, I’m not talking about older, vintage, open top only cars here and there is quite a bit of those in the game).

I know this is a game, and I know they can model older cars and have clearly done so. However, they do try to follow what seems to be the trend. I guess we’ll see where that takes us. Maybe, this means we can get the new Ferrari convertible that requires roof down above 80 mph?

We can hope there will be. Best bet I would say if there’s a convertible/roofless counterpart then maybe make it a option to remove the top.

i doubt it. the aero dynamic and weight shift changes would mean you basically have to make two cars of the same car. that time would be better spent putting in new car in the game and increasing car count. there are going to be more people that would rather have another car than to put the roof down on a car they already have.

Leave that crap for Forza Horizon in my view. Forza Motorsort is a circuit racing game and no need for it.

EDIT: I didn’t know Cr*p was a bad word. lololol

FH2 isn’t that eager either…

correct me if I am wrong, but the only convertible I can think of out of the top of my head is the Spider… and possibly the new MX-5’s. FM5 had the Z8 and Spider, but I am sure I am forgetting some…

Jag XK120. Would be good if they went up during rain though, doesnt look all that so meh.

I can’t think of any convertibles in motor sport. A few roadsters like the Tuscans and ACs come to mind but convertibles don’t really have a place on the racetrack. Even Ferrari had to put a lid on the F50. I’m sure it would be a lot of work just to create a car that’s slower than its coupe variant.

Maybe they can add it to forzavista, but I wouldn’t really care for it. They have limited resources and thousands of requests. Let them tackle the big things first (online community etc.).

ferrari repeated the same mistake corvette made? i was blown away chevey made that mistake decades ago. there is no excuse for not designing the aero, structure and mounts now so your top doesn’t blow away. that should be done in the cad phase before even any prototypes are built. a defect like that should never make it into production. i know they claim its a design decesion not a defect but we know better. wrecking your car without even wrecking your car is a defect. and when the roof detaches it probably is going to cause you to wreck. a ferrari can hit 80 in 2nd gear. you have to put the top down to get into 3rd?

I think it was supposed to be more of a modern car with a throwback style to some of the older Ferrari cars.

With the requirements Ferrari will naturally impose on the sales of this car, and the astronomical price, the people actually buying them won’t have this issue. For one, if they want to track a car, or a Ferrari for that matter, they will easily have one or two others to chose from that are much more suitable for the task. These people also aren’t the people driving around the Ferrari like they stole it and maxing out second gear - they’re rarely driving the car or driving it on roads like normal people trying not to scratch it doing around 80 in fifth or sixth gear. Even that would probably be rare or in places where driving with the top down is preferred.

That said, I don’t disagree that it’s silly or stupid. All thing considered here the original car had a roof and a pretty darn good one at that. There is no way it could have been turned into a convertible with such a roof design unless it was intentional and, honestly, I think that makes it a little bit worse. It’s not a defect. It’s making poor choices - but in the end poor choices will net them several millions of dollars in sales and profits so who are we to say otherwise?

Lets not forget the Z3 and Z3 M series - just like the Miata, you’ll regularly see them at AutoX events with the tops down. Same for the S2000 as the requirements for racing any convertible is top down with a roll bar. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Z3 roadster in a D/C class…that would make a good competition against the Miata users.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Z3 roadster in a D/C class…

they had the Z3M coupe and Z4M coupe in FM4, GT6 also has them. Just letting you know that the Z3M is a terrible car… as in the more you tune it the worse it gets it is ok stock but a Z4M beats it easily once you start tuning, and not just cos it is newer

Yup I know, I have both FM4 and GT6…I was saying I wouldn’t mind seeing a convertible (roadster) in FM6 instead of a coupe. Even a Z3M roadster would be sweet against an S2000 on the Nur.

And in regards to tinkering - it doesn’t get worse, it gets interesting HAHAHA. I love my Z3M in FM4. Like the real Z’s…hellish little roadsters & coupes and once you start tinkering with them…pray you know what you are doing correctly otherwise as the BMW name says - bring my wallet.

pi i still say its a flaw. unless they put a regulator on the car that will not let it hit a speed where the mount can fail it is going to be seen as a flaw, and perhaps an intentional flaw for money. if you can afford a ferrari you can afford a lawyer. rich kids are not known for thinking they have to obey the laws and rules like everyone else. a rich kid is going to show off in his daddys car and detach the roof. the parents are going to blame ferrari not their privileged child, even if the child “borrowed” the car without permission. think ferris bueler. and you know the passenger he was showing off to is going to sue. i think teenagers will panic when the roof detaches, i think they wreck hard. i think kids get hurt, maybe killed. and i think lawyers on both sides are going to get rich. but all its going to take is “yes we knew the roof would come off, but we warned them” vs “ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you have kids too. you know how kids are, they do stupid things. thats why they cant buy alchaol, cigarettes or vote. the people at ferrari who designed this deathtrap have kids too, they knew. they were supposed to be the adults, the responsible ones” and nobody buys a ferrari to stay under the speed limit at all times. they buy it for what most other cars can do, not for what every other car can do. they buy them for performance. yes to me the parent that bought the car and left his teenager access to it would be as negligent, but juries dont like to punish grieving parents and the parent wouldn’t have done it purely for profit.

the lawyers are going to be the ones to say otherwise. and it could lose them more than they make. some jury awards will make you head spin. millions for a spilt cup of coffee that she spilled on herself? and if there are dead children involved juries can get emotional.

Make the cars that are convertibles able to make the roof come up and down before race.
