Personally, i don’t care about the time of the race, what is really frustrating is, as someone who love B/C class the game since the launch still never had a suzuka full tracks, for exemple, on the rotation, it’s all about to be spammed by little layout.
I voted 30 minutes but the important thing is that it doesn’t last less than 16. At least one pit stop for me is mandatory and possibly in really random weather, in the last few months I haven’t had to start in the dry and finish in the wet like I did until March.
Short for slow class like E, D and C. For B and above I’d like medium race with a mandatory pit stop and Endurance option for S and R. As for now I don’t consider P and X classes since it’s a mono car competition (Ferrari F1 and Aston Martin Valkyre). I’d like a perma grouc C endurance race, maybe with some fine tuning to the car balance (boost the 787B a bit)
Every Motorsport title has gravitated towards 8 minute races. Every Horizon title has gravitated towards 3.
I’m sure they have internal data that says that this is the optimal length/cadence for player retention.
One of the key factors isn’t necessarily the races themselves, but rather how many races/sessions one can reasonably expect to have in an hour of play (including loading, matchmaking etc.). At the moment a person doing Short races can get 4 in. In Horizon they can get in 10-12.
If you only have long races, and you get wiped out on Lap 1 (or your game crashes), you could have a long wait for the next race for example. Likewise if you power on your Xbox a few minutes beyond the scheduled race time and miss a slot.
I usually prefer medium length or longer races because I think it somewhat filters out the rammers and such.
Only issue for me is that most people that stick around for the 30 minute or longer races are of different skill levels or there’s a few much faster than the rest.
It’d be nice if the game filtered players based on quali time so ideally you’d have a competitive race against similarly paced drivers. But then again some people don’t do the qualifying, I rarely do.
Those who don’t qualify (I’m not referring to your case) feel so strong that they want to overtake everyone in the first two turns, ramming those in front of them without a problem.
While the rating system is heavily inflated, if they matched based on rating at the end of practice/qualifying, for the most part, people would end up in competitive lobbies, regardless of qualifying. All it would take is one race of not being able to get through the field because the people ahead are nearly as fast or faster for people to start setting qualifying times everytime.
Sometimes I find a lobby with 15 people and over 10 minutes of time available. Many only run in practice and do not qualify. It is a choice that I do not understand, especially if they then hit their opponents without any respect to overcome.
Horizon generally does three race championships though, which makes the shorter races make more sense. Would be an interesting MP option for Motorsport as well, rather than just the one off races.
Anyway when I can I qualify but if you continue from a previous online race you often enter a race with less than 3 minutes from the start. At this point if you have to change aero settings, gears ratio, adjust suspensions or totally chose another car you are forced to skip qualify…
I didn’t ask you for excuses or justification. I usually always find those 5-10 minutes of time to do setup and qualifying. Many, as mentioned, are not fair users and don’t have respect about others because then they ram them out if they are slower.
