Race Length

Just did 2 races in the Formula 60’s event. 18 laps at Lime Rock and 33 laps at Eaglerock. Both ~17-18 minutes. So much more enjoyable than the Qualifying Simulator that is the 4-5 lap races.

You could see tire strategies working/not working, and actually battle for position with someone for 4-5 laps trying to get an advantage. It was actually kinda rewarding.

Probably 2 of my favourite races so far.

Really wish they would implement longer races. I feel like this would lead to some cleaner racing as well, as it stands now the field is just starting to stretch out and get some good battles going on as you finish the race. Also… people in the race just to troll/grief other players will likely get bored and over it really quick.

Sidebar, do you have any tips to get the 60’s Formula cars to grip the track? To me they all feel almost completely disconnected from the track. Even with max grip upgrades they just feel… wrong? Like they are steering from the rear end or something. But I’m not very familiar with tuning rear engine cars so any info you have would be really appreciated.

There are many great suggestions on the suggestion hub, but Turn10 is too busy on vacation let alone fixing bugs/issues to implement these new features/tweaks.

I’m starting to dislike short races. Not enough laps to actually make some moves.

Most multiplayer games are based on 20-25 minute game modes, I don’t understand an 8 minute race in online gaming. I feel like the 25 minute model has been proven for player engagement.

I dropped my tire pressure to 1.2 bar, stretched out the gear ratios a bit, max caster angle, cut rear anti-roll bar value down to about half.

I’m not an expert tuner by any means, but just tried as much as I could to dampen the back end coming out. Rear engine cars seem to all have some element of snap-oversteer.

Don’t forget you can spend up to 30 minutes qualifying for that measly 5-8 minute race. Seriously Turn10 needs to start employing people with some common sense!

Noted, thank you. I’ll give it a try, I feel like if I can get the handling a bit more controlled that they would be a pleasure to drive

What’s crazy is having 25 minutes of qual/practice for such a short race. Especially when they cycle the same few tracks for an entire week… that have identical weather every time you race there.

Don’t get me started on the decision to showcase race tires and then have 3/4 of the races be wet.

Also their marketing of “never race the same lap twice” and then seeing the default time progression at 4x when you go into free play.

Locking the weather for each tracks qual/race session for the week is just a really strange decision. Amongst so many other things that seem like they would have been common sense…

Like having 20 different variations of crap weather and a only a couple of nice weather so when it’s selected at random 9/10 times it’s going to be crap. You’d think this would be one of those common sense things too.

I really doubt, but hope that they read these forums.

Wonder if they’ll ever let lobbies choose what they want again some day. Track and length voting would be cool.

Could they have the race lengths as separate lobbies?

Like when you first go into the multiplayer menu it asks if you want Short, Medium, Long races. The race menus being exactly the same otherwise.

With the current system I think laps should be a choice you make as a lobby while in practice.

It would have to be in the lobby before you go out and have a countdown on the main screen for voting. Then the game would lock in what was chosen by the lobby or if nobody voted would go to default like it is now.

I think that would be an interesting system. Could be done with racing weather too.

The only issue I see there is there’s still the chance of getting in a lobby monopolized by people who want short races when you want longer ones. There should be a dedicated lobby for sprint vs enduro style racing without the compromise of only racing GT like in FM7.

Just thinking that if you have 90 players who want sprint and 10 who want longer races, but those 10 keep getting spread between different lobbies they’ll be stuck racing sprint. Where they might be happier in a smaller lobby with longer racing.

Like hardcore mode in COD, just a separate menu but all the same game modes. If that’s what you want that’s where to go.

Agreed. If anything, they should separate the lobbies into short and long. There are a lot of people out there who barely got time to game, so they shouldn’t need to waste time in a lobby where it’s uncertain if the race is 15 mnutes or 60 minutes… But track voting, hell yeah.
