Just to be clear, I do not have this issue on Forza 7. It all works just fine with this exact setup. This is a problem only with Horizon 4, so I assume there’s something strange going on with the engine and not my Hardware or drivers. I have an Intel 7700k, an Nvidia 1080ti, and a brand new LG C8 65 inch OLED. I have all the most recent drivers for all the hardware in my system. When I run the Benchmark it never hits more than 80% on the GPU.
So when I set my Nvidia settings to ycbcr 444 8 bit or 422 10 bit when I start Horizon 4 it switches to a pink and green blotchy color palette. Which I’m sure some of you that are playing with HDR have seen before if you’ve ever had signal issues. If I set it to RGB settings or 422 8 bit it is just fine. However when I play Forza 7 I can set it to 444 8 bit or 422 10 bit without this issue. So I don’t believe it to be a bandwidth issue or Hardware issue.
One thing that seemed interesting to me. Is that this game is notably smaller in size than Forza 7. By about 30 gig which is a lot considering this is an open world game with a lot of design. I don’t know if that’s because the laser scan tracks in Forza 7 create a lot of size. But I would have actually thought Horizon would be bigger. I wonder if the game is built with 8-bit textures to keep the size down so that they can do the higher frame rates on console.
For what it’s worth it looks amazing in 422 8 bit. So I don’t know if there’s really any reason to worry or complain. However I would like to get 10 bit diddering if possible or 444 full sampling.
I have this HDR issue. With pink and green blotchy color palette just after second or two of playing. What I’ve found so far - it happens only in native resolution of my screen - 2160p - and in full screen only, windowed mode seems to look ok. In 1440p everything looks ok, full screen. BTW - Forza 7 Motorsport - no problem with HDR at fullscreen at all.
Well I found a working solution. I can definitely play in four 444 8-bit just fine. But I have to come from a clean boot into windows and then start and play the game. If I close the game or do something else and come back to the game then it goes to the pink and green two color blotchiness. If that happens I have to exit the game, reboot the computer and then it works fine. so it’s something with either my system not switching back or Horizon not switching back. This is not happening Forza 7 you can exit the game or do whatever you want and come back and it is just fine.
Also for reference I have HDR turned on while in the Windows desktop. So it doesn’t have to switch when the game starts.
Just wanted to post and say I have this exact same problem; HDR works fine in Forza 7, worked fine in the FH4 demo, doesn’t work in full screen in the full game. It will only stay engaged if I’m in windowed mode. 1080ti and newest nvidia drivers.
Hi guys, I have problems with HDR too on PC.
I did find a workaround.
Basically, my issue is that, if I set 4k in game, HDR just doesn’t get detected, or the rare times that it does, it’s a washed out mess. (Samsung KS7000 EU and RTX 2080)
To fix this, I set the desktop resolution to 1080p, and voila, ingame 4k now works perfect with HDR.
I have NO idea what sense that makes, but, I tried everything else, and that’s the only thing that worked.
Once it turns green, alt+enter to go to window mode. It will return to normal as hdr only works full screen. Right click on the desktop and click display settings. Turn the hdr button off and then on again. Go back to fh4 and hit alt+enter to go full screen. It will be fine until the next achievement…then just do it again. This happens with every Nvidia driver put out in Sept.
I have enabled HDR in windows, so it is enabled all the time. Looks good. Also games and SDR content are shown correctly. Only thing is, in game, when I get an achievement, everything gets washed out, I have to tab out of the game and back in, then HDR is there like before. Ennoying issue, maybe devs can fix this.
Yeah, 1080 Ti here and BenQ EW3270U. HDR is not working in fullscreen mode, only in windowed mode. If you can’t fix this ASAP at least add the borderless option so that the HDR will work and we can play the game without window edges.
