One of the big issues/debates when the XBO came out was to make Microsoft produce an adapter that would make us CSR Elite owners able to use the wheel on the new console. Microsoft’s and Turn 10’s silence regarding this, as well as their disability to do such thing left a lot to be desired to hardcore Forza fans like me, who had supported the franchise since day one and went through a great hassle to get the OFFICIAL FORZA 4 WHEEL for the game only for it to be sort of useless after a couple of years.
Now that Rock Band 4 will be launched, guess what?, it will come with an adapter to make 360 official and third party RB peripherials work with the XBOne.
This means they could have done it, they just didn’t want to. Maybe because we’re such a small market compared to the RB one that we didn’t justify the investment to do so, or whatever reasons they had, the result is the same.
Still, all this does is strengthen my decision of not giving my money to Turn 10. As much as I loved the franchise, I am glad I haven’t spent one cent in anything Forza related since Forza 5 was released.
I believe that would be a Microsoft issue / Xbox One issue not turn 10. Turn 10 makes the game with the hardware and software that is in the Xbox One. If the Xbox does not come with the proper hard or soft ware to support the older wheels it’s not turn 10’s fault. That is like saying I bought a VCR from Sony and now all movies come on blue ray. That makes my VCR worthless for new movies so I am not going to watch another movie or support anyone who makes movies. Something’s get left behind and that is just the way it is. I also got burned by this as I only had the CSR Elite about a year before the Xbox one. I have since purchased and received the new base, wheel, and adapter for the Xbox One. I really love the new set up I understand not everyone can afford to re purchase the new equipment and I probably shouldn’t have but I budgeted it in for Forza 6. I hope you reconsider holding Turn 10 hostage for the Microsoft decision and if not that is your choice.
If you don’t mind me asking, how much did all of that cost you, sir? I’m currently stuck with a CSR Elite & Clubsport pedals V1 & desperately need a wheel for Forza 6.
FMR TOMMY GUN, it all was about 1000 dollars for the base, wheel, and adapter. But you will also want pedals and the new V3 pedals are about 300 dollars. There is a much cheaper way to go with the Thrustmaster wheel and pedals. Entire thing will cost about 300 dollars. It all depends on how high end you want to go.
Thanks, Dan. Yeah, that’s too rich for my blood, unfortunately. As for the Thrustmaster gear, even though I’ve read some good reviews/comments on them, I’ve also read WAY too many complaints of failure & poor customer service. Currently, I’m hoping to get the Logitech G920 ($400) when it’s released in Oct. Perhaps at some point thereafter, someone will make an adapter that will enable the use of my Clubsport V1 pedals with that wheel. The success & especially the reliability of the G27 seems more appetizing to me & hopefully, it will carry over into Logitech’s new offering.
Turn 10 is a subdivision of Microsoft Studios, so that means they’re basically the same thing. It’s not that they couldn’t do an adapter, cause they just did, it’s that they just didn’t want to or didn’t care as us high-end wheel users in F4 were such a small community.
As for the VCR analogy, I was not asking to play 360 games in the One (which they are already doing) but to have a piece of hardware that represents the brand and franchise, work with the new console, specially because at that moment they didn’t have a high-end wheel that would work with the One.
I will make another analogy: Needing to buy a brand new TV only to play DVD’s when they were launched, to this date, I still can plug a VCR to a new screen.
Let’s leave the price of the wheel aside, Fanatec doesn’t ship to where I live, it took me over a year of hunting to be able to get the Elite, and luckily I got the CS2 Pedals soon after. It took me more time to get them than how long I used them. And that was also a big issue, the country where I live is the second biggest market for Xbox, and they totally ignored the fact that maybe among those millions of players a couple of them would want their exclusive-game-branded peripherial to play. I know this also regards Fanatec, but still, Microsoft and Turn 10 did nothing when I contacted them several times asking for their help. Their mistake was that we were big Forza lovers, and they gave us their back, and in my specific case, not only once, but several times.
So imagine having to go once again through all that to get a new wheel, thanks but no. Playing with a controller, pass. Giving my money to a company who has totally ignored me, a HARDCORE Forza fan who played since Forza came out in 2005, eff-no!
If you would have asked nicely I just got the entire new set of Fanatec equipment for the Xbox one. It replaced my Thrustmaster wheel which I could have sold you very cheap and shipped to you. It also has the Basher adapter so you can use the Fanatec pedals which I replaced my V2 Fanatec pedals with V3 so you could of had a Thrustmaster wheel and some very nice Fanatec pedals to go with it. A pretty nice set up for pretty cheap as I don’t need them anymore. Keep I. Mind some of us accept change better than others but we don’t have to be so negatively vocal about it. There is usually a way to fix most problems but realize you catch more bees with honey!!!
Sorry if my posts sound a bit aggressive, not my intention, just expressing an opinion.
As for the “offer”, going from a high-end Fanatec to the Thrustmaster wasn’t gonna happen then and won’t happen now. Thanks anyways!
As for accepting change, I think I cope very well with it, this whole thing is an old topic, and I wasn’t very vocal when Forza 5 came out, I just decided to sell my stuff and be done with it. The thing is that now we find out MS/Turn 10 could have offered an adaptor, but they just didn’t want to for whatever reasons. The proof they could have is the Rock Band adaptor.
I’ve read it, I mean, I was very interested in the topic, I know how it all went.
Turn 10 belongs to Microsoft, this means Microsoft knew about this issue, they just didn’t care, neither did Turn 10. There was never an official statement from either, Fanatec had to do it all cause he had to save his costumers.
The problem wasn’t compatibility, it was they just didn’t want to do it.
I think Fanatec makes cool products, and to some degree; I root for the little German company, but they should have had XB1 product ready a lot sooner nearly than 2 years after system launch.
Also, if your parent company says “I appreciate all your concerns, but we are not supporting legacy devices due to X, Y and Z”; then there is nothing you can do as a division of that parent company. Period. Even if that parent company has a change of heart and leadership, its still beyond your control; being a division of that parent company, to right a past wrong.
No, bend over and follow the rules of what Microsoft wanted them to do, which was don’t launch and adaptor.
I bet you that had MS been more open about it before, Fanatec would’ve had a product in their hands soon after launch, not even the bigger companies (Thrustmaster and Mad Catz) had a product ready by launch, how could you expect Fanatec to do so? even more knowing their history.
On your last point I agree, whatever the boss says is what you do, too bad Turn 10 also did nothing so that MS would change their decision.
Communications about the X1’s peripherals was probably on a one way street. Personally I dont think there were a lot of discussions about it… But that is just me and my pessimism.
The problem I see is, if Microsoft were to allow support of older wheels, or all USB wheels, then Thrustmaster and MadCatz could file a suit that they most likely would win. So Microsoft is stuck with this mess. There are probably other options they could take. But I dont see them willing to change this situation. I could be wrong though. I hope I am.
Tommy Gun,
There is an adapter you can use to make the pedals work at least with the Thrustmaster wheel. It is by Basher boards. And I believe it is called the CPX adapter. I am not sure if it works with other brands or just the Thrustmaster. I have one and used it with my Thrustmaster wheel and the V1 and then when I upgraded to the V2 pedals. I now have the V3 pedals. I would sell it to you but I want to sell the complete assembly ( Thrustmaster wheel adapter and the Fanatec V2 pedals all together as a package deal. Sorry. There was a thread on the adapter on this forum somewhere, perhaps a search will find it for you else look up Basher Boards. Let me know if you have any success. I believe it cost about 50 dollars for the adapter. He is also very good at helping you if you have any problems.
