Fanatec CSR wheel situation?

Hey, its been almost a year now since the Xbox One released. Does anyone know if the compatibility situation is still the same? I have seen a few third party adapters over the months with mixed results. I don’t think I have seen one yet with force feedback. I tried to search in Google but it comes up with a wide array of old threads. Does anyone know if there has been any updates or adapters out there that adds all functionality back to the wheel?

Yes, the situation is the same; nothing is changed. Additionally, I would urge caution with any of the workarounds that have been released. Microsoft’s position on those third party devices which circumvent some of the wireless protocols is currently unknown. A racing wheel is innocent enough; but, it could lead to other things which, surely, Microsoft will want to nip in the bud. So, there’s a fair warning in addition to the console’s terms of use.

yeah i wouldnt put much hope into these adapters, as some of them are using a bug/glitch that tricks the console to see it as a standard xbox gamepad. xbone peripherals need a hardware ID chip to be recognized by the console., thats MS way to ensure that only officially licensed hardware will be used with the console. By using this glitch the xbox thinks its a gamepad and will threat it like that and not properly like a wheel. This will result in the loss of several features and its far from being an optimal alternative solution. And theres always the danger that MS will fix this glitch sooner or later which will render the adapters unusable

Currently theres absolutely no indication (at least as far as i am aware) that any other wheel manufacturer will hop onto the xbone licensing train soon, fanatec included. Even though they stated that they might release an officially licensed wheel in the future, but thats still months away, i’m afraid.

from what i have read they will NEVER EVER make the wheels compatible , but they said that about the Kinect always being part of the package
also with those adapters apparently they make the wheel usable but without any force feedback

I’ve got the CronusMax for my Fanatec GT2 and it hardly resembles a viable wheel solutions for the XBox One. It turns my GT2 into a force-feedback-less, wheel simulating a controller. I’ve tried all sorts of workarounds with the profiler to get some sense of linearity in the wheel and you pretty much have to pick a region in which you want it to be linear. It suffers big time in the regions where it’s not linear… (sigh)

glad i never bought one then , sold my Fanatec Porsche turbo s wheel , and bought a Madcatz wheel…it’s ok if don’t like strong force feedback, and it’s quite solid…not plastic crap…bit pricey though

ok quick queation about those adaptors, you have to plug in a wired controller first to trick the xbox right? what would happen if you connected a compatiible wheel instead? would the wheel then emulate the wheel?

It’s been tried by a couple of ContollerMax owners… doesn’t work. Even though the adapter sees the wheel, when the Fanatec wheel tries to “emulate” an XBox One wheel via the ControllerMax (formerly known as CronusMax), the only button that works on the Fanatec is the “dashboard” button.

ControllerMax’s new “official” position on full-fledged, XBox One wheel emulation is that it will only be fully possible through the all new, ControllerMax 2, which is due out in December. It will be a long, painful wait until then, but I don’t have room for two wheels in my rec room and I’ve got too many XBox 360, PS3, and PC racing games that work through my Fanatec GT2, and I can’t give them up… not even close.

I don’t think it would work. I doubt the makers of this adapter thought of duping the XB1 into sensing a wheel and not a controller.

If that works, I hope it flies under Microsoft’s radar.

I wonder if Microsoft and turn 10 are aware of how much money they are loosing by blocking the use of the Fanatec racing wheels on the Xbox one
this wrong decision is stopping a lot of people in buying cars in forza 5.
best thing to do is to contact Turn 10, Mr. Phill Spencer and Major Nelson in a massive way via all social networks explaining why we refuse to buy another wheels when the one we use can perfectly be use this will leave money in our pockets to be invested in the wonder full cars Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2 have to offer, include picture of you racing set ups with your messages.
maybe they’ll listen

This wont happen, believe me. The number of Fanatec wheel owners refusing to buy Forza5 because of lacking wheel support is minimal compared to the current user base. And all 3rd party Xbox One peripherals require a licensed ID chip in order to be recognized by the console. This is to ensure that no ‘cheating-hardware’ can be used on the console in multiplayer (auto-fire, macros). While that doesn’t really apply to race games, its a serious issue for FPS and fight games. Furthermore the licensing model ensures that the peripherals work properly on the console. Bear in mind, consoles are a ‘closed system’, we are not talking about PC gaming here.

Another possibility is that the lastGen wheels cant cope with the new FF protocol used by the Xbox One. Lets assume they significantly increased the refresh rate of the new FF protocol, its possible that old hardware cant process the signal quickly enough if the internal chip clock rate is too low.

BTW, the situation on the PS4 is similar. Even though Sony stated that dev’s can decide what hardware they want to support in their game, there is still conflicting information about this. The recently published wheel compatibility list for ProjectCars doesnt list any of the “old” wheels for PS4.

And i’m not sure what Fanatec’s role is in this. They currently seem to be focused on releasing overpriced addon rims for their existing products, but still no news about an Xbox One wheel, even though they promised some news ‘soon’ (that was about a year ago). Perhaps the licensing for Xbox One is too expensive for them, and they cant find any cheaper motors than the 3$ mabuchis to compensate for the loss in revenues. (being a bit sarcastic here, i know)

That compatibility list dictates what platform I will be playing Project CARS on. It’s a shame that Microsoft decided to further restrict wheel options for the XB1. One would think they would have learned something from the last time around with the 360… Oh well.

Let me guess,pc?
