Hi everyone, just bringing an issue to Turn 10’s attention via the forum as I feel it warrants discussion.
I am seeing a lot more start-line incidents than in previous games, particularly in Leagues where a number of players idle in a Lobby to gain points by not racing.
Essentially, when the race starts and a car is not moving on the grid, it is not “ghosting” quick enough for the cars starting behind to avoid it. I have seen cars 3 rows behind a car strike one which in turn causes pileups in larger lobbies.
Personally I would like for a car to ghost after about 0.5 of a second. That should be long enough for the row behind to take evasive action while still preventing those further back from blindly hitting a car and causing big issues.
I’m curious as to where this is a League specific issue however, or something that happens a lot in traditional Hoppers as well.
I’ve seen it quite a bit in leagues. While I race in ghosts mostly it’s still an annoyance. At the end of the race everyone in the lobby has to wait for someone who’s not even there playing to wait out all the end of race timers on their screen instead of popping back into the lobby to trigger the next race sequence every dang race.
People are idle on the grid everywhere. In leagues, I don’t think they get any league points for doing that though. Pretty sure you have to finish the race to get league points. EDIT: Not this case apparently… Hmm. but if someone quits a race even in the last lap, the people who finish get 100 less. Great system! lol
Ghosting cars that don’t start would help a lot, though 0.5 seconds might actually be cutting it a bit too close. Probably 0.3 would be better.
I’d like the whole grid to be ghosted for the first 30 seconds. That would give everyone a better chance to get spaced out a bit and not get caught up in turn 1 carnage. I would race a lot more in the normal lobbies if they implemented this. Right now I mainly stick to ghost league and c class ghosts lobby because getting taken out constantly just isn’t very fun. My internet seems to be spotty too, definitely a problem with unintended collisions.
You definitely don’t have to finish to receive points. I’ve been victim of many a DNF due to wrecks and pileups in league races, still always receiving the points afterwards. Even the few times I’ve finished dead last after being tragically spun out at the end, I still receive 100 points minimum being last and a DNF.
If it is due to getting some rewards even for DNF then they should implement a system that says you need to complete 50% race distance in order to get any credit for the race.
That should stop AFKers rorting the system and should cater for the slower drivers that may be genuinely dnf’d even though they are trying.
^^ I think this would be a great solution as sometimes I struggle to finish in gt or above leagues due to either errors, crashes at start, or sometimes just not fast enough.
Yes this has been a problem across all matchmaking lobbies for years now. Just a few mins ago, I got out of a B class lobby that had 5 out of 18 cars sitting on the start line for multiple races. Not to mention 2 lapped cars trying to crash everyone. Yeah, great game guys.
You should be kicked for inactivity. And if you don’t give gas/revv up the engine during the countdown, you should immediately be ghosted. Solves the problem I guess.
Just had this happen. Very upsetting! Sad to have to race ghosted lobbies due to so many non racers! Even if you get through the sitting cars on the grid you hold a tight but cheek every turn thereafter waiting to get smashed from behind This is in Elite lobby.
if you ghost players for 30 secs, what happens to everyont when 30 secs are over? I think it would have to be worked out how the ‘unghost’ during a live race works, especially for overlapping cars. Perhaps you ‘unghost’ beyond a certain vicinity of another car instead?
