No future tracks should be locked behind carpack DLC

Now that we all know the track list, a list I had predicted almost exactly I find myself somewhat disappointed. I sure hope all this time spent making the game allowed them to add dynamic weather and time of day to just about every track. I mean damn almost nothing is new here, while its great to see tracks like COTA get time of day and Maple Valley make a return its still a bit to familiar. Which brings me to my point, two tracks that were previous FM6 DLC are now in FM7. This really bothers me because those tracks were held behind a paywall for car packs. Does anyone think T10 will do this again and if so I predict more fragmentation of the community when racing online. I mean damn where are the Japanese tracks?! Please don’t do this to use T10 make tracks available to everyone if you decide to release more post launch.

Is it tracks locked behind car pack DLC, or is it track DLC that just happens to come with some cars?

They were the porsche and nascar expansions
Both had a track included which were only usable if you owned that dlc
Was very restrictive …even to those that owned them

Let’s hope they don’t do this mistake again
Cars fair enough but not tracks

I was aware of which expansions were being referenced. But what you’re buying it for depends on your POV. I’m not overly fond of Porsches, and while the associated career mode was more interesting than I expected it wasn’t the reason I got the pack (on sale), either.

As far as they add some oval tracks with a nascar expansion is fine by me since i don’t care at all after i’ve seen in FM6…

I remember when the free track DLCs hit Forza 5 and how they went on about the problems the paid tracks caused in previous Forza games, only to go completely back on that one game later.

It’s a bit of a tricky situation to be fair. Tracks are surely a lot of work to get put together, so it makes sense that they would charge for them… But at the same time, by charging for them and making them unavailable in hoppers and not integrated into the regular career, they are hurting their value since they can’t be used often. Even worse, by pairing them with “expansions” that contain cars that only really appeal to specific areas of the community, it makes it even harder to justify the price.

I know a lot of people who didn’t bother with the DLC because they knew the tracks wouldn’t see much use, and/or they weren’t interested in the cars with them.

Although I didn’t get FM5, I remember that whole deal. Saying they didn’t like how it fragmented the community in FM4 so they would make new tracks free… Then in FM6 they not only make them paid tracks again, but paid tracks you can’t even buy separately so you are stuck paying the full $20 for them (aside from sales/FRC prizes) to get some other content many people don’t even care about. If they had just made the tracks available separately for like $4.99 or something it would been more forgivable.

Another one of those things that would be fun to ask Turn 10 about to hear how they try to spin it, but that we will never get an answer on because they don’t answer the “hard” questions.

I agree 100%.
I got the porsche pack on sale for 5 bucks and VIR was one hell of a track to miss out on, for all of this time. I still have yet to race homestead as well.

They’re neat tracks but are only raced in various leagues. You cannot race them online in a standard hopper as you should. Hopefully they don’t do this again.

An alternative solution from games like Gears of War 4:

  • New tracks are available to everyone in Public Hoppers and Leagues.
  • To use new tracks Offline a player must buy the DLC they are attached to.
  • To use new tracks in Private Lobbies a player must buy the DLC they are attached to.
  • VIP users get access to all tracks regardless of other DLC purchase status.

I like this idea.

Still won’t stop people whinging like spoilt kids though when they realise they can’t have it to use all the time however they please. There will also be a number of threads posted here. I can see it now…

“I can play XYZ track on public, but not in private sessions. Why?”

I like it. Adds some value to the VIP pass as well.

Clearly the best solution yes.
I also wrote something about this a few months ago : Releasing new free tracks improve game replayability which means people are more enclined to buy Car Packs to have new toys to play with, which, in the end, means both editors & players are happy ^^.

There are some tracks missing, and if they decide to add them later its better than not having them at all for the next 2 years. Sure its not the best way to do it, but you see this sort of arrangement in almost any game these days. And since this brings money it will not change any time soon.

Consider the alternative, the Assetto Corsa model. Low track count in the base game and then several key tracks included in DLC, not just two semi optional ones.

DLC is a way to be nickled and dimed to death.

Then don’t pay for it
