In game and on the rewards page i have no friends showing at all,the game says 2 friends playing but in leader boards none show up only me,any one else having this? Was fine earlier today.
microsofts build 2014 conference started today and runs for 3 days. expect glitches due to heavy server load/demand. all the developers are probably going to want to play with the new demos/toys.
Just seen gaming and social is having issues so that could be the problem.
This is from the latest update on xbox.com
“Having difficulty viewing activity in your Friends list? Hang in there, we’ve got you covered. Thanks for your patience while we work. We’ll update you again in half an hour.”

I dream of a more stable system in the near future lol
service came back online minuets after the conference ended for the day. it runs from 830 am to 630pm pacific time so dont panic for the rest of the week, its probably not your xbox.
by the way if anybody wants to watch it Shows | Microsoft Learn is streaming it live and has replays up about 4 hours after live. has some interesting stuff. alot of it goes over my head but what i understand sounds like its gonna be cool. friday 10:30-11:30 will be a presentation on xbox one
I am confused. A single conference can overload the servers?
kind of. its a developer conference and they are showing off alot of stuff…including how to control the azure servers the one runs off of. one of the presenters crashed something accidently trying to do two things at once and if ms has to give priority to one place it is going to be where they are showing off the windows ecosystem and telling every developer why its the place to be. they are showing off unreleased stuff and running it on the live servers so there might be a conflict or typo that needs to be undone. a few oops moments. its not just the load on the servers…its that people are playing with the servers innards live to demonstrate what will be possible. they are running sometimes beta os level software on the live servers. its more than just a bandwidth issue.
and they may be letting developers test drive the beta stuff off camera like they let people play the xbox while in development. but rather than just letting them input controler inputs letting them input code live. remember it is stuff they have never done either. they are not just demoing the servers, they are demoing controling the servers.
Thanks for that.
Surprised that they used the live servers but maybe they had good reason.
At my work we always try to play it safe and leave the production servers untouched as far as possible and do testing and development on test and development servers.
“Hey, let’s pump raw, untested code through this server that people are ACTUALLY playing on RIGHT NOW. What could possibly go wrong??”
(giggles)
Does ctrl+z work with code?
if they achieve what they envision it’ll be well worth a few spotty days. and its kind of hard to do testing when you are coding it live for the demonstration. typos happen.
I VERY HIGHLY DOUBT that a single, MS developer conference is responsible for taking Xbox Live services offline.
rdo3 - What other proof do you have to back up the statements you’re making (that read as factual) about the effect that Build 2014 is having on Xbox Live?
just coincidence. it started when the demoing started and ended when it ended. the link to the live stream is in post 5. another keynote today from 8:30-11:30 then demoing starts again. we’ll see if it was just coincidence in a couple of hours. dontnet from 1-2 pm touches on azure then 2:30-5:00 there are two demonstrations focusing on azure so if it gets spotty i guess right.
there’s the link again if you want to watch it live. should be starting soon. if you click the day one button you can go back and watch about half the stuff from yesterday with the rest “coming soon”.
