Newbie Question... do I really have to start in 14th position every time?

Seems stupid to have to bash through to have a chance.

btw, I did try and do a search but the function seems to hang up on the first page.

Thanks,

Joe

Go to free play,if you have the best car you start first

Simple answer; Yes. Unless it’s Bathurst where you start 8th, in career mode, you always start at the back. After playing Forza 3 and starting up front and eventually lapping the entire field on a longer race, I am glad they start you at the back in 5. It gives you more of a challenge.

You start 8th at Bathurst, so no.

tune your car for a quick launch and you’ll pass half of them before turn 1. just shoot straight up the middle. take the inside on turn 1 pushing the ai drivers out of the way. you should come out of turn 1 in about 4th. from there its easy pickings.

Tune for acceleration in career mode. Once you get past the AI (drivatars) they slow down significantly. Every once in while one will try to sneak up on you, just put 'em in the wall.

That’s one of the ways poor racing behaviour is fed into the Drivatar system.

Many people report that some Drivatars would side ram for no reason. Here’s why/how.

wow, weird way to train. It would make you so much more aggressive in real races, just slamming into cars to get through. I do however agree that the AI is easy to beat. Haven’t had less than a gold finish since I learned the game. I keep making the drivatar harder, but if I can get into the top six by the end of the first lap, I usually win.

I wouldn’t use the career mode to train. If you want to get better start going into public hoppers and deal with actual people that will still slam into you.

Starting at the back presents you with a challenge. If you start out in front, you have no reason not to finish in front. You wouldn’t be competing with anyone, but rather just hot lapping, but with other cars on the track behind you. If you want to run around without ever seeing other cars, go to Rivals.

Think if they added a lap or two to each race it would take care of most of these issues. Also, while I would have been a fan of qualifying races, as it would extend the length of career mode, the thought of using your Rival’s time for the track as one, seems to make sense.

If you pick the best car for the track yes you can get a jump on the ai and cruse through the field. The problem is a lot of people do not know the right car or choose not to use a leaderboard car to race the ai with so you don’t always shoot up the middle on the start. Then you can get stuck behind in the back for a few laps. I have noticed this on several races. You have the lead cars take off usually three of them followed at some distance by blocker set 1 that is two or three cars going side by side who’s job it is to keep the player from getting to the lead cars within the three laps. They are in turn followed by the rest of the field referred to as blocker set 2 who’s job it is to smash up the players car at turn one. There is also the wild card of a friends drivatar who’s job it is to smash through the player and any other ai cars that are in the way to take the lead. Funny thing is though the player is usually smashed to useless junk by turn 2 the drivatars seem unaffected by damage and keep right on going. I have had 2 ai crash together and spin in front of me, I passed them easily, and then they take off and beat me to the next turn. I really should have saved that clip. If there were more laps or an option to qualify for the race to mix up the order gee that would be great to up the challenge. Not create a demolition derby. I have had a couple of times were I slowed for a turn and a drivatar flew right by me and into the drivatar in front of me creating a huge wreck that I had to navigate through. I do believe I was the intended target and for whatever reason the drivatar missed me and took out his teammate. This is suppose to be a challenge? We definitely need the option to put on more laps and mix up the starting grid on the career races. Not all of us are leader board racers that can easily get the gold in two or three laps.

I mostly agree with the wall of text above… more laps, in case you get held up.

I’m glad you said this because a lot of folks like to go around and let others know how easy everything is, how it’s your fault, you need to learn to drive, you are lazy, you should buy my tunes, etc.

All the time, these guys are driving LB cars with bought tunes. They are destined to win. I suspect the folks asking these questions, don’t spend all day looking to choose which car is statistically best for every class/every track, some people just don’t care to get that far into the details of entertainment. But yea, try to understand that some of us are not as perfect and fast as you are in video games, keep that in mind when criticizing someone’s gaming experience. thanks.

Yes my drivatar is ruining F5…LOL.

Lighten up, it’s a game. I know the graphics make it see like it’s real but it’s a game.

Apology accepted.

Picking the wrong car/tune/etc for the track can be fun too - I race every car and try a lot of community tunes, so I’m rarely in an optimal setup in any race. It’s a nice challenge and a way to learn how different cars can compare.

If you get frustrated being in the pack or not getting gold in a particular car, you can ease up the drivatar and add assists til you reach the balance of ease vs difficulty that suits your mood.
