New To The Online Experience: Lower class cars get a head start? Unrealistic car mods/speed?

This is the first Forza game that I’ve actually bought and kept on playing. The 2 main problems I have is why the lower class cars get a head start and the UNREALISTIC speed of these cars are.

I get it. It’s a video game. But from what I’ve heard, this game is supposedly the most “realistic” racing game out there, besides PROJECT CARS. So first off, why is it that the real world’s fastest car, the Hennessey Venom GT, can get destroyed by the FnF Edition Supra in a drag race? Both cars are maxed class cars, read up on the stats showing that my Venom had better everything. Took on a Bugatti and an A-class Merc in the airport drag race. The Bugatti got the best start, but I easily caught up super quick and took first. Without warning, the 2 Supras that were in the game passed me up, going FASTER than the 245mph I was already going… Ended up with 3rd place. THAT MAKES NO SENSE! Even in NFS: Most Wanted (2012), the cars were the same as the stats said. The Hennessey was the fastest, followed by Bugatti. Yet, the fastest cars in THIS game are the Supra, Alfa 33 Stradale. For a supposedly “realistic” game, it sucks.

I’ve beaten the game on the hardest setting offline, and that’s nothing compared to the online portion of the game. If you make a game with REAL cars, have REALISTIC customization! Every car has a conversion kit that swaps the stock to a V8 (or V10 depending on the car). They all sound the same, the tuning is the same, and everyone plays with the same cars EVERY race. Because this game is all about cheating. Everyone should have their own tune set up, paint job, etc. What fun is it when you join a lobby and everyone looks, sounds, plays the same in game that has millions of combinations of customization? NOT FUN AT ALL!

Next, I wanna talk about car classes. I thought this was a cool idea in the beginning, letting others know that you like racing stock or customizing to what you want in a car. The main problem with it is that I can be in a Volkswagen Bus (D-class) and win every race against those that are in S-class cars all day long. The worst was when I drove my X-class Caterham and raced against 2 other B-class cars, sitting there for about 40 seconds before I was able to get moving… HOW IS THAT FAIR TO OTHERS!? I’ve won maybe 6 races online out of the 200 so far, all because of the “head start” that lower classes get. IT’S A RACING GAME! It shouldn’t matter what car you drive, just how you drive it! NFS: Most Wanted (2012) would let you choose cars during a race, NO MATTER THE CLASS (since there wasn’t a class system), and start at the same time. You could have a guy driving a Ford Raptor against those that were driving Ageras or Bugattis! It didn’t matter! I won more races against Bugattis in a BMW M1! This game is terrible for an online experience when you add something like “lower classes get head starts.”

I’ve enjoyed this game, got over half the achievements in under a week. The offline portion is fantastic, still a TON to do! But, if you want to play online, you need to get mods, hacks, lag switches, etc. You literally need that stuff to even help win races, break the speed barrier, etc. It’s a realistic game when it comes to driving a steering wheel and using pedals, but on a controller, NOT SO MUCH. Unfortunately, I’m returning this to get my full refund. I could pull off great shots of my cars using Photo Mode, drift was as fun as ever, but I’ve never liked Forza. It’s like a “pay to win” type game in a way. If they make a Horizon 3, getting rid of the following: classes, playing on unrealistic cars with unrealistic speed/mods, and meet ups, I’ll buy a copy and see. Many players want fairness and variety, not some copy.

  1. This is not necessarily the most reslistic game there is. This is not Forza Motorsport. It is more realistic than Need for Speed though.

  2. IF you mean X class then that does not mean all cars are equal. Even at PI 800 or 900 the cars are not equal but at X999 the actual number could be well over 999.

  3. Lag can make cars look quicker than normal.

  4. Most quick people in the game are just quick - no mods, hacks, lag switches etc. They build their cars right. They tune their cars right and they drive them right.

  5. Sorry but the head start to slower cars is there because that is the type of race it is. I have won plenty in D class and plenty in X class in showdowns. If you don’t like showdowns then choose another method to race online. Showdowns is not all there is online in this game.

  6. It is more than possible to be quick in this game with a controller.

  1. Yes, the Henessey venom may be a fast car in a straight line but that’s not enough. It depends on where in the power band it has the best pull, how quickly it accelerates, where it accelerates the most, and how much space you have. Sure, if given enough track time and braking space the Venom would achieve a higher top speed than any other stock, production car in the World, but that does not mean it will win every standing mile. A car with a slower top speed can be built and set up to accelerate harder and achieve a quicker standing mile time and that is exactly what the people beating you are doing.

  2. Not all cars are built equal even if you build them to the same PI level. This is more evident in X Class than any other because there is no higher PI rating. Simply put, anything that goes above 998 becomes an X class therefore not all X class cars are equal or rated the same.

  3. Some people just drive better than others and are pretty darn quick. No cheating required. It’s fun to win but you won’t always. For me, it’s fun cashing down the ghost of a fast rival or racing against very skilled people. I find it fun, think it’s a challenge, and it makes winning that much better a feeling when it happens.

  4. You complain that every car has the same engine swaps or people can download tunes from the storefront and invariably people end up with the same tunes. You also complain that people can build and tune a car and the fastest stock car in the world gets beat by other cars that have been modified. If you had your way and the cars could not be upgraded or tuned (what NFS has is hardly tuning) then everyone would be in the same car to begin with? How is that ok but if some people upgrade and tune a car the same way it becomes an issue? --This argument does not make much sense. Not every car online is the same - I know this because I build most of my own tunes and I know some people who use them and others who don’t. In fact, I can easily name off a handful (literally 5 to begin with) of racers who use their own tunes and don’t share them. Your argument is invalid.

  5. There are online modes of racing other than Car Meet Showdowns. The showdowns are races that pit different category cars against each other but the slower cars get a time advantage because they are naturally slower. The time advantage is such that the faster car still has plenty chance of winning if you drive well. If the driver of the fast car drives poorly and the driver of the slow car drives rather well and makes no mistakes, then the slow car will win. If the slow car errs and the quick dows not, the quick will win. If both drivers drive equally well then the faster car should be the winner. Also keep in mind that your driving style may need to change based on the car class you are in and the course you are driving.
—> I have done several showdowns and won more than I have lost. I tend to do Showdowns in B and C class cars and I finish ahead of the lower classes and the quicker classes because I drive quickly and carefully. I’ve also done my fair share of showdown events in S1 and S2 cars (I don’t race X a lot) and I had no problem winning them as well.

  6. I do have a steering wheel but in fact it is not set up and I do not use it for Forza Horizon 2. In fact, it’s not even at my house right now and I have no problem driving fairly well with the controller. Having used both, I must say that for Forza Horizon 2 I prefer racing with my controller over racing with my racing wheel. I’m looking forward to finishing my new stand and using the steering wheel for Project Cars but for Horizon I prefer the pad.

  7. You do not need mod, hacks, lag switches or any of the sort to win online. I win online all the time and don’t use any of that. I’ll jump into an S1 lobby and win with a Transit Van or VW Bus just because I can. and I’m nowhere near the fastest racer out there. You just have to build your cars right and drive well if you want to win. It’s not all about top speed, it’s how fast of a speed you can maintain in corners while also maintaining control of your vehicle. I have vehicles that top out around 140 and still win a majority of races because they hold a fast line well and maintain a higher average speed than those who end up seeing it’s taillights for the whole race. I fail to see how this a “Pay to Win” game as you say as outside of the actual purchase of the game I have never spent any real world money on it and I win quite a bit.

You say you came into this experience with a closed mind, you never liked Forza, and it seems you didn’t expect to. You get out of things only that which you put in. Give the game some time. Learn how to race well and unlearn any bad habits Need for Speed has taught you and see how you progress. This game is quite realistic as far as driving and physics go. Look up SpotTheKitty’s open source tunes and he has several links to useful reference material. You will notice that all this reference material comes from real world racing, physics, mathematics, and real world car concepts and it all applies to the way cars are built, tuned, and driven in the game.

I agree, that is horribly unrealistic; a modified Supra should be miles ahead in a drag race! You think I’m kidding, don’t you? EKanoo Racing’s Supra would like to have a word with you…

It’s an arcade game.

Its a compromise between arcade and simulator. Physical engine has horizon from motorsport 5. Most of tunning knowlenge is same. I know that because in last weeks and months i study all that materials from here (and from ppidrive, santiag…, meow) :))) . I can say maybe im above average online driver in online races with my own tunning and upgrade setups. In online races is critical which other people racing with you. Is good be in good team and have good friends for racing which play fair. You are new and with you racing players with hundreds hours of practice…
How wrote others connect to online with different methods or add me as friend, I racing every evening to night or morning  Other method is private free roam with higher skilled friends…

I playing forza motorport 5 and not enjoying as horizon because there isnt fun , funny moments (yep dont realistic) and complexity of knowing shorcuts between events, right choosing car etc… Its only hardcore simulator . If you want be good online player you must play and play and play with more better drivers and look how riding and teach from him.

What about car setups,in my oppinion, here is two differents worlds. Rivals and online racing. Car which is good in online game have much different setup than rival game. I’ll suggest you interest not yet about setups and load for you favourite car and class some best rating setups from others and start playing with it.

What are you talking about? The only time cars get headstarts in races is during showdowns at car meets, the supras and alfa 33s are the fastest drag cars because they are incredibly powerful and light, stats dont matter too much when the car has been tuned, not every car is the same, and not everyone drives the same cars, I have atleast 5 cars for each class from A to S2. Maybe if you put more thought into this game then you would realise that its not supposed to be realistic, its aimed at people who enjoy cars and want to enjoy them in an open world environment with tons of freedom, so what if the upgrades arent realistic, they are supposed to be over the top, I mean come on, how many people have a supra with almost 1500bhp and drive it on the streets.
