Never tried Forza before, this got me laughing

so, i#m usually not the one who writes these kinds of post but idk why now i kinda want to.

Its actually kinda funny how bad this game is, like… the game is ‘playable’ but hard to believe given the previous forzas exist, that this took more than a year to develop, they basically had all systems in place already.

If you take away the tracks and the cars, this game feels like a school project of a few students. Its plastic, its basic, its the iracing of wish.com.

Okay lets start with the positives:

  • included in the gamepass
  • decently playable with a controller
  • physics is okay, don’t care if its not hyperrealistic, its at least decent.

and now, all the funny stuff

  • for me, the game instantly freezes on the loginscreen and i have to alt+tab to make it work again
  • this issue can also happen in carreer and online(causing me to get dropped from the game, yey)
  • carrer is boring but drivatars are not that bad actually, at least they make mistakes sometimes
  • the game stutters since last patch, when loading the liveries of other drivers(it did not happen before)
  • its hard for me to get more than 2 consistent online matches without a crash, a drop or a blackscreen with infinite loading.
  • no spotter, the arrows are not so bad though, but why are they off by default?
  • some online lobbies are incredibly laggy, some are not.
  • everyone starts from the highest rank(what did you guys smoke to make it work like that?)
  • safety rating changes a lot even under one race, i got into a laggy lobby where i got rammed 3 times and went from S to C, altough at least i can go back to S relatively easily, not that it matters anyway.
  • some cars are very high quality, some look like they are from 2005.
  • dust, wear, damage textures barely exist, thats possibly what makes this game look like trash by the way
  • the tire layer on the tracks feels like its just a predetermined, doesn’t feel like its based on where people drive at all
  • no damage model
  • there is simulated damage but its disabled in most online lobbies(why?)
  • not that the previous point matters anyway because damage is also very random, sometimes you ram the wall and no damage, sometimes your entire car is busted and you cant go above 30kmh
  • there are ghosts in qualifying, makes no sense, distracting, sometimes 2 cars drive into each other and you cant see anything
  • ghosts in general, why cant they just fade the ghost away if its too close to my car? I really enjoy watching 2-3 cars inside of each other obstructing the view.
  • 6 laps in the race? Let me set your fuel level to 40 laps automatically, just in case.
  • fuel and tire gets reset for random reasons like changing your car’s tuning, why?
  • cant fine-tune the camera, in some cars you can barely see out from the inside view, some cars have the hood camera too low and you cant see anything
  • some cars have the hood camera so back on the hood, half of your screen is a reflection which makes driving nauseating
  • there is basically 1 sound for collisions, making a 3kmh collision sound the same as a 300kmh collision which is disorientating as hell when someone just touches your car and it sounds like a truck T-boned you.
  • cars sound okay-ish, i guess, but anything else is meh
  • pitlane camera goes to cinematic, why? nothing says immersion more than randomly changing the camera to spectator view
  • speaking of spectator, you now something this game doesnt have? Yeah you are right, spectator.
  • trying to save the replay either crashes my game or says succesful download and then i check my replays folder and its empty
  • track textures dont load properly sometimes? maybe? or some tracks just very bad quality? (im playing on a 3090, with the latest gpu drivers. FUN FACT: It worked better with outdated drivers but now im too lazy to downgrade becuse i dont even know which one it was)
  • big flashy screens on some tracks are very distracting and annoying
  • driving aids for blind people(peak degeneracy)
  • game randomly started with 30 fps and refused to go higher until restart(how?)

nothing else comes to my mind just yet, driving feels good in the game, that’s the thing that saves it in my opinion, but getting to that point where you are actually racing on the track with decent opponents is a misery.
The issues i just listed would be the bare minimum to be solved even before releasing the game, but this is what game development in 2020+ is i guess.
The release of the new WRC game a few months ago was another great example for this.

The selling point in this game imo is that its included in the game pass. Its not worth even 10 euros if you ask me, but you can play with your friends for at least 30 minutes before someone crashes or freezes or gets dropped and you have to redo the party or the lobby.

Gives the state of game development in the past 10-15 years, unless this game pulls a no mans sky, its never gonna be good(altough, they have the potential to be). They need to fix the bugs, rethink a lot of things, just make it more sensible, instead of stupid marketing stunts like driving aids for blind people…(seriously?)

If you got a steering wheel, just play iracing. Its more expensive but you get a good experience and it doesnt waste your time with infinite loadingscreens and crashes and stuff.

This is a solid analysis. But this thread title sums it up in a nutshell.

That reminds me of one bit from Eddy Murphy’s Delirious…with Stevie Wonder. “Steve you’re my boy but I told you, I ain’t impressed with the singing…you wanna impress me ? Take a wheel for a little while mother******” :joy:.

I’m all for aiding people with disability. Like special controllers and stuff. But how many blind people wake up and think I’m gonna play Forza today. Feeling a little crazy today maybe I’ll disable throttle assist.

I got temp banned for saying some of the things you mentioned here.

I don’t believe mocking the game for being inclusive by offering assists for disabled persons is the right way - it’s one of the few things they actually got right.

Also, FM is not bad because it offers these features, it’s bad because they screwed up almost every other part of the game. Even if there’s only one blind person out there that gets to play the game thanks to the assists, it’s already a win for me.

When I brought it up it was to draw attention to how much effort they put into this one aspect. While the entire rest of the actual game is visibly lacking in that same effort.

Cut off your nose to spite your face sort of things.

Did they though? They put a lot of marketing effort behind it, but I don’t think hiring a team to make a blind driving assist is responsible for the state of the game

Honestly, accessibility features is probably saving FM 2023 for now. Imagine not being able to have your car level up itself while you’re AFK, doing better things with your time until your car is ready to have some proper upgrades… I’ve just gotten so tired of doing races in free play or doing rivals for levels instead of actually trying to set times.

I wouldn’t call the game laughable. But speaking about AI drivatars, I liked the 1.0 version more. They were less agressive, with more awareness, inconsistent though, but they used to make hilarious accidents. They used to make me laugh

That is an incredibly insensitive thing to say.

Now you are taking things out of context. RainForHire explained

instead of stupid marketing stunts like driving aids for blind people…(seriously?)

T10 is using that feature for marketing. Heavily using it (all this while the core of game is half-baked at most). Which also devalues that feature and people, who worked on it. It also makes T10 insincere (in my opinion; same goes for any other company, who uses such things for bragging and gloat). There are many games that have similar features, but I don’t recall them making a marketing stunt out of it.

I may be wrong, but don’t gaming companies pay a fee to be among nominees at Game Awards? So MS/T10 used money to get a chance to win Innovation in Accessibility award…

Officially, Turn 10 have said the Drivatar system no longer powers AI. It only applies names and car/livery choices.

Probably due to on-screen clutter but they should be on by default I agree. Also, a radar would be better.

Turn 10 know who plays their game and their suspected driving ability. In other words, they don’t trust enough players to race cleanly (and they’re right).

Can’t change position of the cameras but most should have an FOV slider at the very least.

Turn 10 mentioned before launch that it would not be in at launch. If they have any esports ambitions with this game it’s a necessity though.

What’s wrong with allowing more people the ability to play a game?

Firstly, I don’t find that “peak degeneracy” can be reasonably interpreted as equivalent to “exploited disproportionately by marketing”, even with added context.

Secondly, the context you add seems doesn’t do much to contradict the initial formulation. It certainly seems to imply that accessibility options for blind people is a fundamentally stupid idea.

Thirdly, the use of the word “degeneracy” would be enough to invoke Godwin’s law. That word has a lot of unfortunate implications.

I can’t speak for RainForHire word choice, but I wouldn’t judge someone for one word use on internet forums.

I will try to explain the stupidity argument. FM current state is what it is - not great, maybe terrible. Instead of postponing the release date until they have a decent product, they decided to release it in very poor state. They use accessibility as a strong selling point even post release, are ignoring most of criticism about the game and have completely avoided giving any explanations to community. They want people to praise them for that and focus on how innovative T10 is, while game itself is in shambles. Those, who actually need and use accessibility features (not AFK players :upside_down_face: ), have to play this same poor excuse of a FM title. Eventually they start to encounter these same shortcomings from bad AI to lack of content and everything in between. It’s stupid situation T10 have created for themselves. Their focus point and priorities are skewed.

But it is objectively something to put to their credit. We can ironise about how the game is so accessible it can play itself, but that’s objectively a pretty good thing. And not just for the AFK thing, which is a fun (and somewhat telling) side-effect.

That the marketing material is dishonest (and I’d ask when is marketing ever honest) really has no bearing on the lack of communication. Those are two unrelated issues.

Whatever shortcomings you think the game has, it’s again not related to accessibility.

The fundamental problem I have here is the implication that accessibility is a skewed priority/focus. As if that was time wasted, or that it should remain an afterthought.

There’s also an implication that the game would be in a fundamentally better state if they didn’t take any time to work on those features, which I have a lot of trouble believing. Especially when considering that this is a game where cars driving themselves is already a critical feature.

Thats clearly not the point. What he, and I were pointing out is that the most effort put into the game was for that feature. Its staggering how people don’t understand what this means and just immediately interpret it in the worst way possible. Current year is truly a loss of the ability to cordially communicate basic information.

Answering to that second part.

It’s not time wasted or that it shouldn’t be in the game (I don’t think anyone has a problem with such features being implemented in games). Priorities should be: core game first, accessibility and other such not core features later.

Or it just shows that the team, who developed accessibility features, did their job properly and majority of rest of the teams failed, because those said things actually work and have gone through a proper testing phase and Q&A, which can’t be said about rest of FM (on launch day I identified several visual and GUI issues/bugs in menus even before I managed to hit the track - shows how much “effort” T10 put in)

The limit of your reasoning is that if you don’t think about accessibility first, you can’t design your core game to be accessible. That’s the difference between accessibility as a feature and accessibility as an afterthought.
