Need pointers for learning to play with wheel

Hello, I’ve been playing the horizon games since the first one came out but I’ve always played with a controller, I was excited for 5 and decided to finally get a wheel. I got a G920 and started playing with it, past couple of days I’ve started to get the hang of road racing with it but I still have alot of trouble drifting and anything off road related. Does anyone have suggestions? Proffered wheel setting and what not. I’m very new to playing with the wheel and it shows as I can’t even maintain a solid donut in an empty parking lot after a solid hour of attempting it. Any help is appreciated, thank you

Wait until the steering angle slider is back in the game. Then try offroad with 270-360deg same for drifting play with the slider then.

You probably want to set steering linearity lower. This will make it easier to counter steer during oversteer which where all the fun happens

I use Fanatec gear, but i also found that a steering angle between 270-360 combined with steering linearity of 10-20 gives me the best feel for drifting and offroad.

It needs a lot of practice. For the beginning I would take a awd and trying to do donuts at a parking lot. Abs off traction control off. Playing with shifter and clutch. It’s more playing with the gas pedal and clutch not with the wheel. Sorry for my bad English. You need a lot of patience but it will work, trust me

Thanks everyone, I’ve been practicing when I can with one of the formula D cars on the same little drift zone by the festival, I have the steering angle set in the G hub for 720 degrees I think I’ll try lowering it and see if that helps out

Make sure you set the steering mode to Standard instead of Simulation if you’re having difficulties drifting. Standard will add a slight assistance to the counter steering which helps immensely.

I followed the tips from a friend here in this forum and Set my Wheel Steering Dead Zone to 60, which is equal 540º ( 0.60 * 900º = 540). I ended setting to 65 (~585º) and steering linearity to 45. Now I can drive like I was doing in FH4 with my g923.

Could you let me know which Steering Wheel Dead Zone you changed to 60? I see 2 settings (STEERING AXIS DEADZONE INSIDE,STEERING AXIS DEADZONE OUTSIDE). I just bought the G923 and it has been nothing but frustration trying to get the thing to work properly without spinning out on every turn.

Its “Steering Axis Deadzone Outside”. Initially I started with 60, but the car was still laggy, so I changed to 50 with steering linearity to 49 when driving street races and linearity to 51 when driving offroad. You can check how sensitive FH5 when turning Telemetry on.

On my G29 I use default settings with the steering rotation set in G-Hub to 540 degrees. If your pedal has a true break mod make sure to apply at least a 10% deadzone to the brake. FH5 is a lot easier to drive on wheels than previous iterations but it takes practice. I recommend practicing on a game with actual courses to get you use to driving with the wheel before moving on to open worlds.

From there, do not jerk the wheel but slowly and firmly steer. Listen to the tires on your car and look at the behavior of your car. If your wheel loosens up, that is tire slip and you might be over steering. If your tires are squeeling and your wheel is moving freely, try using less brake.

slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

One channel that helped me was ViperConcept he has some good videos when it comes to sim cade. If you are more serious, Driver61.

Welcome to the wheel club friend!

Game punish you for slow counter steer which simply you cant compete with controller. On PC you can change steering range to mitigate but on xbox you are screwed.
